Busta Rhymes Reunites On Stage With Leaders Of The New School

UPDATE: Busta Rhymes and Charlie Brown are on good terms again, as the Leaders Of The New School appeared publicly at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this week after nearly two decades apart.

Busta Rhymes is headlining the eight annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival this weekend (July 14) in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Billed as "Busta Rhymes & Friends," the veteran emcee took to Twitter on Tuesday (July 10) to allude to a potential reunion with his former group, Leaders Of The New School. Busta said "stay tuned" and included a recent photograph of him pictured with L.O.N.S. cohorts Charlie Brown and Dinco D.

Brooklyn Bodega, organizers of the festival, acknowledged the tweet  to HipHopDX as a potential allusion to the weekend show, but could not confirm or deny its validity.

The Leaders Of The New School, which also included fourth member Cut Monitor Milo, released two albums, 1991's A Future Without A Past and 1993's T.I.M.E. The group was also part of the Native Tongues collective, including A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Jungle Brothers.

After Busta Rhymes pursued a solo career in the mid-1990s, the Leaders disbanded, after appearing on his 1995 debut The Coming.

  • E.J.

Cool. Nice to see them finally make amends. I wonder if LONS still got skills on the mic. It don't matter though. You can kiss and make up but don't have to necessarily get back in the studio.

  • fossie

FUCK FUCK BROOKLY!!!!Punkass little retarded kid!

  • eebzookee

Some people on here lack perspective. Musicians have longevity long past selling records. I don't buy records anymore but I would go see a LONS performance simply because I grew up on that. Many of my generation would do the same. We still love hiphop and we still bump out old music. Coming on here and proclaiming them to be irrelevant because their old just make you sound stupid, like you've not notice all the old people still performing and making music around the world. Get some perspective instead of hating those who paved the way for your favourite artists. If you don't like them so much why waste time thinking and typing about them? Some smart dumb niggas up in here!!

Agreed! Most of these "Hip Hop Heads" have a music repertoire of about 2 years. They have no concern or appreciation for those that have made great music and still contribute to the music community. However, when you don't graduate highschool (which a large population on here hasn't), then you make ignorant comments and your thought process is ignorant.

  • what

Man its good to see niggas putting aside their defferentes and getting together man, it look good and feel right i respect that i still rock the LONS

  • 7 Cities SLymm

WOW, i see much hate on Busta Buss coming from some young fake "hip-hop" fans down there! y'all suck!!! * i agree that Busta's artists didn't shine like his career, but look at: Eminem/D12, Ludacris/DTP (- 2 Chainz), Nelly/St Lunatics, Royce/d-Elite, Lil Wayne/YM (- Nicki&Drake), Game/BWS, 50/G-Unit, Wyclef/Refugee All-Stars, DMX/Bloodline, Lox/D-Block, Pac/Outlawz,Three-6/Hypnotize, Cam-Juelz-Jim/Dipset, B.I.G./Jr. Mafia, B. Segal/State Prop, Snoop/DoggHouse, Wiz/Taylor Gang, Tyler/OFWGKA, Bone/Mo Thugz.....and on and on! most main acts RARELY can push an artist to equal status, plus record labels go after who is most marketable NOT the most skilled! * Busta's run of relevance (he is still relevant being on tracks with Chris Brown and other CURRENT icons) now rivals LL Cool Js !!!!! doing it over 20 years strong * he collabs from EVERYBODY pop and underground (Chris Brown, Justin Beiber---Royce, KRS, & Tech 9) * young (fake) Hip-Hop dans disgust me! as Aerosmith, RollingStones, The Who get older, they are MORE respected by their culture...as Busta, Jay Z, Wu Tang, Nas get older they get LESS respect by our culture...you b*tches are pathetic!

    • IDK

Damn, you said to all lol. Although I don't agree with Busta Rhymes collaborating with a lot of the current artists, I still respect him for offering lots of hip hop throughout his career. Shit, I'm still bumping to "The Coming." Same goes for every other rap veteran. Continue spreading the truth around ;)

  • Fuck Brooklyn

Busta Rhymes your career is officially over. No matter what you do. You can get these old irrelevant niggas and form a fucking group; it won't matter, cause nobody buys your shit anymore.

  • murdock

in the 90s this could have still worked but not 20 years later.whos that? BROOOWWWNNNN

  • Acesun

LONS Reunite? Ha! Like most have posted below, he held back Flipmode and Spliff Star who of late just began syndicating his own work. Bad business, he should have constructed a WU type deal with his roster. Interesting to see what type of sound they will create or re-create.

    • Anonymous

You do know you can reunite on stage or at a party without returning to the studio to make a music project right?

  • Anonymous

another desperate move from a 45 year old rapper who; s career is over. Whats next touring in Europe and talking that you are from the old school to the people in europe.

  • Fuck Brooklyn

    Hope they die.
