T.I. Contemplating Retirement, Says Rap Isn't The Same

T.I. explains his problems with the Hip Hop game.

It's been over a decade since T.I. dropped his debut I'm Serious, and he's thinking about leaving the game. During an interview with Power 105's The Breakfast Club, Tip said that he's built a Hip Hop empire with Grand Hustle and that if his artists begin to outsell him, then he has good reason to exit the game.

"This is what everyone fails to realize. I want out. I want out, man," he said. "What the game is going to and what has evolved into from a personality standpoint, it goes against what I represent. What I embody, this game contradicts that. I want out. I’m in it because I love music and I have obligations, contractually."

Tip addressed how the content of music has changed over the years, and how a rapper can spit lyrics about a life they don't actually live and succeed. He says that if those artists begin to outsell him, then he has no problem ducking from the game.

"It was at one time, this music was about speaking to the people who felt like you feel. Now, the people I’m speaking to, they don’t necessarily feel like how I feel. In my day, if you were rapping about something you weren’t really living, that was a strike against you. You were held accountable. Nowadays, nobody even expects you to live up to the things you rap about. That goes against what I represent, what I stand for. So if they outsell me, then that’s just all the more better for me to fade to the back and cross my legs on my desk."

  • Okay but..

Nowadays rap is shit i agree but stop being a bitch, you can still make music and if you are not concerned with the mainstream then make music that caters to real hip hop fans.

  • Anonymous

Totally agree but you need to keep it going TIP!!

  • yourdad

Face it, this is what happens when you're an artist in hip hop... you get older than 30 and you're no longer relevant. Hip Hop has become the flavor of the month. Nobody who's on the radio and pushes units is saying anything, it's just another song for the club. Underground is always alive, but Hip Hop on the mainstream is dead.. it's now a mix of all other genres with a crappy rapper like Flo Rida on the song. TI made his paper, as will the newer, younger kids... make that papers, but musically? This shit has been in the dumpster for a minute.

  • thought dog

Isnt this the same dude thats pushing a white australian girl rapping with a southern american accent?

    • BBoi

lol she might not sound completely Australian (more like a blend US/Aussie) but she doesnt sound South American lmao...

  • The Predator

nigga ain't coming out hard since 2003. Admit it, he's lame right now, and if he can't make good music, he should just leave this shit.

  • Anonymous

all of young money, rick ross, soulja boy, birdman so many more but yeah he's right those days of being real are over everyone's a hipster someone should create a record label which hires real artists who actually went through the shit they talk about

  • RW

Not a huge TI fan but he's right. Hipster and Rick Ross generations taking over. Pathetic. Still an underground though

  • ashmoney

all the rappers from the 00's are getting old and pushed aside for the new school. i dont like it but thats just how life is.

  • NONO

T.I. needs to stay and set the standard. leaving won't help the situation

  • tj

T.I is just growing up and thats what he needs to do. screw all that childest bull shit all these rappers act like little imature kids.but of course they only act like kids who cant controll their mouth because thats whats selling

  • Lol

How is he going to say it's not the same and he wants to retire ALL WHILE co-signing that whack ass white chick. Seriously, though.

  • gsonii

Like I said. As long as you got Lil Wayne who is basically Bow Wow claiming to be in a gang after growing up right in our faces from 8 or 9 years old to now there will never be any integrity in this. People like to call Ross name but Wayne is absolutely the worst perpetrator in my opinion. By the way, fuck your opinion and I am out.

SmacOne: 1) If an artist is only allowed to rap about his real life, he/she will eventually run out of material. 2) So he doesn't like people "falsely portraying their self" in rap... so when he did all those inspirational tracks and THEN GOT CAUGHT/ARRESTED LIVING THE OPPOSITE OF HOW HE WAS CURRENTLY PORTRAYING HIMSELF IN HIS MUSIC AND HIS MTV SHOW... how is he not guilty of the same thing he is condemning? 3) Music is a form of art, and to say rap music has to be real is ridiculous and boring. Sure too short had mad bitches, but did EVERY story really happen? Considering, I personally remember a song about Too Short speaking with Ronald Reagan about selling cocaine and Nancy Reagan giving Too Short some head, I sincerely doubt it. 4) Considering the reference I just made is from a track late 80's, T I saying that, "fiction-rapping" is new, is f*ckin ridiculous. People see what they wanna see and hear what they wanna hear. Apparently, he just now opened his eyes to other's who falsely portray their self, but conveniently forgot to open his eyes & ears and look in the mirror about what's "real" about his own music. 5) TI... Dog... they've been outselling you for a while now and some were doing it long before you, regardless of how real, fake, or ridiculous some of their rapping was. eminem 6) Not even GANGSTA RAP is/was meant to be completely based on their true life, otherwise they are just basically snitchin on their self. It amazes me how successful someone could be in the industry and still be completely oblivious about the industry and the people in it. ~SmacOne

    • Jacc

Even though you just wrote a book you are right nine times out of ten rappers lie in their music but they don't make it to be taken seriously it's just music like a movie and it's made for who the fuck wanna listen to it

  • 50 Cent

Im a homo, jacking off in the bed reading you guys comments.

  • KING OF THE SOUTH

SO MANY FUCKA NIGGAS ON COMMENT SECTION... JUST READ WHAT ETK SAYS AND FUCK ALL THE OTHER CRAP

  • Anonymous

Yes, yes, the rap game changed because nobody gives a shit about rubberband man.

  • ETK

3/4 of you haters don't make a lick of fucking sense. lemme explain why. you guys who are bringing this all the way back to commercial vs. underground debate need to kill that shit. T.I. raps about hoes and money, but that's REAL.. that is who he is. he has several platinum albums and top form swagger, you expect him to rap bout something else? exactly, argument #1 done. then, some of you talk bout how, oh he collaborates with niggas like Rick Ross and shit. here's the thing, in the same article, he says that he loves music. HE LOVES MUSIC. he still loves the game deep down inside, and that includes the things he raps about, and the things Ross raps about, which are similar. hell, later on he says he don't like using the word "retiring" because it's too final. he's not gonna stop collaborating with every god damn rapper with a shady history just cause he said that. THAT'S NOT WHAT IT MEANS. READ WHAT HE SAID AGAIN. third, the snitch thing. holy fucking fuck let it go. there ain't one piece of paper with his signature on it. you haters are just sounding like desperate broken records right now. even if you're not a T.I. fan, shouting out that bullshit like you think it's gon make a difference.. nah it makes you look ignorant b. wanna say I'm dickridin? fine, better than sounding retarded with that snitch shit.

    • realtalk101

Proof? You're A clown. Personally review the facts of his predicament. Dude got out and did a crime stoppers video, encouraging people to snitch on others? It was on record T.I. purchased 25 illegal unregistered firearms in an 18 month span. The outcome was 1 year in prison. How much more proof do you need?

    • ETK

"I can't believe you wrote this wah" fuckin crybaby up there, shoot yourself and yes, it's possible to get a year away with all that. He did a bunch of community service + that lame TV show Road to Redemption, plus like 3 other things.. all that counted towards the reduction of his sentence. and besides, celebrities get away easy with that shit. If he snitched, it'd have been fucking proven by now. There's no paperwork, nobody's dissin T.I. in jail, nobody's claiming their buddy got jipped cause of him... face it, and let it go.

    • DUNN DUNN

      >realtalk101 SHUT UP AND GIVE US SOME PROOF, THERE AINT NOBODY BELIEVE IN SOME GUY BROKE AS FUCK COMMENTING ON HIPHOPDX.

    • Is It Really True That Niggas Grew Up On Manhattan?

@ETK I just can't belive you wrote this. Fuck you. FUCK YOU! Why the fuck you still alive after all this bullshit!? Die motherfucker, and bring that snitch ho T.I. with you!

    • realtalk101

If I'm not mistaken, Pimp C was locked up on a pistol charge for like 7 years, An unregistered semi automatic weapon. He obviously didn't give up the source when they asked where did you get this firearm? He may not have had the money to invest in a legal team like T.I. may have had but I'm quite sure he had money connects if he himself didn't have enough to put up a well rounded defense on a semi automatic charge, that if they were giving away chances of a light sentence he could have easily had that time reduced. Fact is if you snitch you get a slap on the wrist if you don't you do time.

    • realtalk101

I don't really care, I'm not a criminal, hes of no threat to the nature of how I live my life. However, obviously with the lifestyle he lives and promotes, instead of following the code he claimed his entire life to live by that made him a "hard and credible gangsta", when the time came to put that concept to the test and keep his mouth shut, he instead told all, if he didn't he wouldn't be free right now.

    • realtalk101

T.I. was small in comparison to the threat presented by somebody that could distribute such arms in bulk to the general population. Since T.I. committed no crimes with the arsenal a deal was easily approved to get such connected arms dealers off the streets, in order for T.I. to flip and give over those sources the deal had to be sweet. 1 year was a sweet deal and plus the inclusion into the agreement that his cooperation officially never took place on the record. His image can't officially be tainted, but only a stupid individual wouldn't know whats up there.

    • realtalk101

Nobody gets caught with a single fully automatic weapon in the United States of America and does 1 year, let alone a felon with multiple fully automatic weapons. Hell you get more then 1 year for 1 unregistered semi automatic weapon. I don't have to see no papers, he gave up the top distribution source and it was struck from court records. You can defend him all you like but what you pushing isn't common sense truth.

    • ETK

I'm not trying hard. it's fucking effortless. there is zero sense some of these haters are making, it's crazy. I'm not jumpin down the throat of those haters who call him wack and shit, that's their opinion... but the whole snitch thing annoys me beyond belief, it's so played out because they have nothing else to throw at him

    • Anonymous

Your trying to hard to defend him man, that says it all right there. For the record, I have nothing against TI. But what he was saying was how a lot of rappers felt when he first came in the game.

    • TI WINS AGAIN

HATERS TRY BEAT THIS ONE HAHAHAAHAHHAH THERE AINT NO HATERS CAN BEAT THIS ONE

    • David Enright

      Co-sign with everything, brother!

  • Axel

How does he not realize that he is EXACTLY one of the people who has brought hip hop to the bullshit it has become.

  • lmao

EVERYBODY HERE KNOWS HE IS TALKING ABOUT FAKE ASS RICK ROSS....

  • Anonymous

Lets be honest...if he was still as hot as when paper trail released he would not be saying this. He is only saying this because his career has freefalled. Must be hard to be on top of the world, to go to jail again, come out and sell less than half of what your last album sold and have BOB taking over you.

    • Anonymous

      no mercy went hard!!

    • anon

I never really listened to T.I until my girl was watching his tv show and I said lemme see what this dude is about. He's actually dope! i do think he's talkin about rick ross, lil wayne (the blood nonsense). No Mercy was pretty good too. But then again i'm one of the few these days that goes out and looks for music instead of some bullshit hype on twitter and watnot

    • Anonymous

Plus at the end of the day, he's milking heavenly from B.O.B's success. I suspect too that he's talking about Rick Ross. If that is the case, halleluyah for somebody who dare to talk against the mainstream's favourite puppet. It could be dangerous to your career ...

    • ETK

believe me, he's not fretting about No Mercy.. that was a throwaway album he rushed together before headin to jail.. plus there was very little promotion/marketing towards it because of the heat on him I actually would be glad to go gold WHILE I'M BEHIND BARS.. just sayin

  • Anonymous

I love how people will hate on T.I for being a snitch with no evidence at all to prove it, and then make excuses for Rick Ross being involved with Law Enforcement. Seriously, show me the documents where T.I said a name and pointed out, "Yes Sir, he did this on such & Such Date" Because I can link you to the pictures of Rick Ross dressed as a cop, that's not a conspiracy, a rumor or a delusion.....those exist Sometimes I feel like I'm living in Bizzaro world reading the shit ya'll post, lol

  • Zeal

I don't get how rap not being the same would affect his decision to retire.. He owns his own label, he can release whatever music he pleases to. What a cop out excuse.

    • Anonymous

#1 anon u got real shit right there

    • Anonymous

Uh... no! He's not gonna release anything if his parent companies aren't satisfied... and we both know Atlantic/WMG has a history of tampering with an album's final outcome. If Tip truly wanted to be his "normal" self the album would flop because that's not what's popping in these (End) times. The youth are fucking retarded and don't want to actually listen to music with a message or a wider vocab. Rap is DEAD!! I can understand him wanting to leave when it's out of his comfort zone (and, yes, he's stepped out that zone many a times but I imagine he's fed up). Hell I'm fucking fed up! So I'd salute him if he goes down with some sort of dignity (No Mercy can't be stricken from records, alas)

I totally agree with you T.I. What hip hop is doing these days are also what I don't represent or follow. Its just not the same. People are rapping about false lives and this is bullshit. Those people in New Zealand are what we call fakes and I don't want any part of that.

  • Darius

O please, he's the KING! He's not supposed to retire. He ain't going anywhere. If he's doing this to sell records...idk T.I. Anyway, you've left an imprint in the game. Jay-Z claimed to "retire" and look what happened....

  • Anonymous

His incarceration probably hurt him a bit but he should still make music regardless. He still looks like a goody two shoes church boy. I doubt his supposed past life is real. And no one wears fitteds with sticker on them anymore.

  • Vagabond :

100% agree wit t.i. on this. He appeals to a certain crowd. The ones who grew with him from I'm serious to now and street niggas who left it alone for family life and smart enough to leave that shit alone and parlay in other hustles. More than half the people I see callin him a snitch and fake and ain't thuggin and never has.mwe don't know what happened. That's neither here nor there, the industry is trying to keep hip hop pointed to the young crowd and keep it a young thing. There's no place for 25 plus fans and rappers spittin some 25 plus shit. They wanna usher out the old niggas if they refuse to adapt. Like he said he got obligations contractually you think he wanna make Whatever You Like again hell nah. He ain't tryin to look like other niggas in the game changin they style and flow to appease to the new kids on the block. Clap it up for him. Great career and knows when to hang it up. On to the next hustle.

Who cares if he did shit to reduce his sentence? Man came up on his own and did his own shit to get rich. For every one of you saying he's a bitch for whatever he did to lessen the charge, I bet for damn sure you all would too to get a year rather than 25 to life. Trouble Man wont be hot if his heart and soul aint into it though...

  • Anonymous

snitch can't make hits anymore.....hahaha fuck this nigga

  • lumba

I feel as though this may have been true a few years ago, but generally this has been a great year for rap! Okay, I can't defend some "mainstream" rap... But it's not hard to find rappers that are working hard to make good music, that are both lyrical and relateable. Plus, satellite radio and the internet have helped good rap find its way to the public. Why didn't T.I. have this problem a few years ago, when rap really was at its lowest point? Maybe because Paper Trail sold too well for him to complain.

  • rcklsscognition

Take all this niggas money away, send him back to the street corner for a year, and then put his a$$ back in the studio to make a record. Bitch a$$ dropping this shiz like we give a damn, just hype your record like the rest of em

It's better to go out a soldier than to put out another wack-ass album...

  • hoota

man i cant believe dudes are hating on this guy. WHAT HE'S SAYIN IS REAL TALK. babies and soft boys like mac miller and wiz and drake and all these other herbs dont know about real rap or livin a life like they talk about and bein hard. bunch of pussies even DMX was hating on Drake.

For one he's somewhat responsible for how the game is messed up. As far as his buzz dying down, that was his own doing, that last conviction hurt him idc what you say that dissapointed a lot of fans, not to mention the call the cops commercials. but he's no snitch? riiiiight!

  • Anonymous

He sold 200,000 durin the first week while he was in prison w/ no promotion. TroubleMan will be huge..Just cause he dont have a top 10 hit rite now doesnt mean he's not one of the hottest..Quit hatin on the King

  • Anonymous

more bullshit from the worlds biggest baffon. Please leave, stop rapping. No wants your weak ass bullshit music about good guns and snitching... go back to making TV shows you know the money better.

  • Intelligent Lil B

Nah Ti thats some BS. Dont get me wrong I respect your hustle and like your music but what you said was some BS. Rappers have been lying to the fans for many years, if it wasnt about their background then it was about their wealth, cars and women. This isnt new in fact Im surprised people are making a huge fuss about it only. I even find strange when people say Dam all these new rappers jus talk about materialistic shit. Its been going for years but everyone acts it only started now. Also I would to add that TI recently collaborated with Rick Ross(and he lied about his past). Lots of rappers have lied or exaggerated their background, and besides TI`s acting like his a conscious rappers are one of those exceptions when he jus basically raps about money and that high life. No disrespect though to TIP and his hustle, jus dont agree with his statement

    • Swordz

intelligent lil b - you don't sound intelliegent when you say every other line "i respect your hustle" I don't respect shit... nigga raps. So what. it's entertainment. What did he think he doing missionary work?? DId he think being rapper is about whoes the most honest... a reward for years of selling posionus drugs to your people?? Nothing to respect about that young man.

  • GGGG-UNIT

Hip Hop is better than ever right now. If you are looking strictly at the mainstream there really hasn't even been a good album release yet, but if you look at hip hop as a whole it has been pretty good so far. The only mainstream album I thought was pretty good was Breakfast by Chiddy Bang. Everything else has been okay-to mediocre. I understand what he is saying, but at the same time I feel like people in hip hop and the fans are still stuck up on being real. some of the most creative and interesting songs are exaggerated or made up. Only in hip hop will you get penalized for trying to go out of the box. I understand why, but at the same time we should just judge the music. If someone is going to play themselves let them do it. BTW - Habits and Contradictions, Control System, R.A.P. music are all great and worth a purchase. Kendrick, Big Krit, Nas, and Curren$y coming soon folks

  • tipster

He said he just wants out..Retiring is too final! But either way hes still the best and one of the few top-sellers. Trouble Man will do stupid numbers cuz he's out to promote it. He wont retire b/c of his strong fanbase.

I hear what hes saying.. im sure that a lot of people dont care to relate to real struggle and life experiences, but thats just those people

"who gets his own girly ass Reality TV Show with his Wife" Bet the checks VH-1 give him are manly

  • wzrd

The real problem is dat the new young rappers cnt really carry (or elevate) hip-hop anymore. Dats y fans always anticipate veteran artists like Em,Jay,Ye,Nas,50,T.I. etc. All of those guys changed the game and now the guys who are popping right now,(Drake,Ross,Cole,Wiz,Nicki,Waka) jus dnt have dat presence or classic records. Drake & Nicki both had a great start but for some reason, they'd rather make hip-pop rather than hip-hop.Granted, these artists are capable of producing some good records but there's jus not enough consistency from albulm to albulm as there was in the early 00's-08. Hopefully guys like Kendrick Lamar,J.Cole,Slaughterhouse & Big Krit will be able to deliver quality music and be able to sell records w/out selling out(atleast entirely).

    • STAN

All those dudes you mention are dope, kendrick, cole, slaughterhouse all special and unique talents. That being said, they can't save rap. It's not just about skills(to us I know that's not true) but it's about marketing. Hip Hop needs someone that stands out, changes the way everything is perceived. Hip Hop needs someone that is so good it makes everyone stop thinking that they are good enough to rap. In music these personalities only come in every once in a while and Hip Hop is long over due.

    • Anonymous

      real talk man, agreed

  • Anonymous

Tip should stop whining and do summin about it if he's so upset over the direction of mainstream hip hop I agree with his point but he has no right to complain, his last album was a massive failure cause he spent the whole thing lowering his standards and trying to keep up with the bullshit everyone else is doing Tip is one of the last MC's with a major label push that could get away with trying some left field shit, so why not use it to your advantage Call in some producers that dont sound like everybody else, collaborate with some unexpected guest artists and make a unique album that stands out from the crowd and reminds us why we gave a fuck about you in the first place Its worth a try at least, because this whole "Jump on whatever bandwagon is circling" shit aint gettin you nowhere but miserable and cranky, lol

  • Anonymous

realtalk101: In lame terms, my buzz has died out since being incarcerated. The concepts that made me hot in the first place has become a dying fad. The sole credibility of me finding my niche a decade ago in the rap game is no longer present to where my name can put another artist on, on the scale I once was capable of anyhow. B.o.B. carries my label now. I'm trying to reclaim my street buzz by working with Trae, hopefully he can help me sell records in Texas. I really want Iggy to shine! Any extra money she can make that I can profit off of just might help me find some wiggle room to make something happen. Rappers that came up in my era have no interest in cutting records with me on consignment anymore, I've been cut from the circle besides theres heavy question if I potentially could snitch on anything I encounter, just too much in the air to actually be trustworthy there. Plus I don't know any of these new rappers and they are expensive to get features from! They treat me like a new artist. I have no more reliable connects :/ heh screw it I think I'm gonna quit, too many obstacles.

people are dumb... its been proven that hip-hop is by far the most popular it has ever been, almost every kid in this generation sides with hip-hop as their fav genre... everyone said hiphop was going to die 6 years ago when Nas came out & said it, well it hasn't come anywhere close to dying

hahaha so let me get this straight. when TI was big he didn't care that people said the game was in trouble. As a matter of fact he self proclaimed that he was "the man who could save hip hop" on 'help is coming.' now that nobody cares about him he complains that the game ain't the same and wants to call it quits.... what a puss

    • G

true but not one man can save such a big thing and when you have a bunch of artist turning rap into some pop shit rap will barley exist what they call rap now is basically pop

  • Anonymous

hip hop will go on forever. aint no one man above the crew

  • Anonymous

you cant lecture people about street cred and then talk about collabing with kesha in the same sentence brah. youre playing both sides of the fence

  • realtalk101

In lame terms, my buzz has died out since being incarcerated.

    • tipster

First of all the dude still got 1 of the biggest fanbase in rap. He has loyal diehard ppl behind him and he knows that. That why hes not retiring. He sold 200,000 durin the first week while he was in prison w/ no promotion. TroubleMan will be huge..Just cause he dont have a top 10 hit rite now doesnt mean he's not one of the hottest

    • realtalk101

hes gonna have to rebuild that fizzled buzz from the floor up, not saying he can't do it but acting like a punk and crying ain't gonna get him back there.

    • realtalk101

Don't know about the inbred part but whatever, If he had reliable connects that could help put him back in nationwide radio rotation and had the resources on top of it to pull it off, with no album coming he would have got in the studio soon as he got home and made that radio cut that would have reclaimed his buzz, obviously he don't have it or else he would have had it out there long ago.

    • realtalk101

Well he the 1 whining like a little crybaby. Dude got money and now hes upset the money doesn't come as easily as it once did. Nothing worse then a has been acting like a wuss over being a has been, at least you was a was, be thankful for your blessings, don't cry about not getting more.

    • ETK

You're an inbred idiot if you think Tip doesn't have reliable connects... Seriously

T.I. fucking up the rap game, this is the supposed "Street Rapper" who gets his own girly ass Reality TV Show with his Wife... in the past he had "The Road To Redemption" bullshit show which he purposely did to avoid a jail sentence... this guy is dumb enough to buy assault weapons off the government agents? I thought real street dudes don't get caught? Then he brings some Australian Girl Rapper who is soooo terrible that she gets dropped from Interscope.... This dude is more of a diva than anybody in the rap game, from reality TV to making people believe that he has pushed kilos... i like some of his music but he wants to go on this bullshit rant on 105 because he goes to jail for a few yrs, loses his buzz to the point where he has to resort to this shit

    • Gpfefe

what wrong with the tv show any little money on the side is good and last time i check his talking about how rappers make shit up about there lives in there raps now if they were to just tell the truth it wouldn't matter

  • Mr Obvious

Whats he talking about? jay z, diddy and biggie invented the rapping about other peoples lives style of rap. NWA were pioneers of this as well.

  • _|_ (^ _ ^) _|_

nigga ain't coming out hard since 2003. Admit it, he's lame right now, and if he can't make good music, he doesn't deserve to breathe anymore.

  • Mattjeezy

He's right. Rap aint what it used to be. Better retire off a good album. NO MERCY aint cuttin it

    • Sam

His hay day was in one of the worst periods of rap 2. 04-10. I like some of his albus but it sucked when he was at his prime 2

yeah ti it aint the same no more platinum albums you will be lucky to go ross ahah ross=gold i crack me up.

  • vtr

yet he collaborates with rick ross. lol nigga's in denial

  • Anonymous

"Tip said that he's built a Hip Hop empire with Grand Hustle" An empire? Not quite. An empire is where multiple artists are making the label money. T.I. himself is coming off a gold album that technically really wasn't, so this so called empire is more like a collapsing camp.

    • Cudder

Which will still be peanuts compared to what he making. Sit your ass down

    • anon

nah im living quite good actually. u ride around bumpin tis latest cd (wateva its called) and ima be gettn money.

So, I guess being an informant, is what he should be rapping about. Also, marrying a known industry whore and signing a wack female rapper.

  • jordan

i dont give a damn, TI was real back then when Trap Muzik & KING came out. nowadays this nigga actin like a failed version of Lil Wayne. not to mention Grand Hustle is one of the lamest record company outthere. (LOL@Iggy Azalea)

  • Young King

Oh... so you young dumb blog thuggin niggas still tryna say TIP snitched huh? Aight coo. SMDH that's just like saying 50 is really a snitch where's the proof that either of them have?? Exactly it doesn't exist and even if it was really attempted to be hidden there's always somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody, so it woulda eventually leaked out to the streets a long time ago if it was true. Do you personally know T.I. or 50 to verify your accusations? I'll wait... yeah thought so. I hate you NEW niggas yo.

  • Ahmed

i bet he wont retire...simply coz theres no mainstream rapper who actually retired

  • SinsHere

Much respect to TI for this shit. Not a lot of rappers as high up on the ladder as he is would say some shit like that. Yes, he's a tad bit hypocritical but look at Eminem. That motherfucker used to diss Britney Spears and N'Sync so he'd stay OUT of the pop genre and now he's fuckin doin songs with Pink and Nicki Minaj. I may not agree with TI's choice 100% - I'd really hate to see him go - but I'd respect him a whole shit load more if he just retired before he became an Eminem. Real talk.

    • anon

yea u just sound dumb throwin em in the mix. ti did a COUPLE songs with timberlake jazze phae usher so i dnt get the point of wat ur sayin. dnt hate on em.

britney and nsync is totally different from pink eventhough they both pop, check out nicki new video as Nas as a lover boy. wht do u have to say about that. folks jst like hatin on eminem, wht about other rappers that collaborate with pop artist

    • Lex

thats some real shit bruh...well im still hoping he can find a better way other than retirement

  • NO PROBLEM

Destroy and rebuild, divide and conquer, this is what is happening from Drake to T.I. Retirement because they have ran out of gimmicks to exploit for money. Good riddance. The real hip hop is needed again.

  • Illest T.I. Fan

NO TIP PLEASE SAVE THE GAME YOU SHOULD SAVE THE GAME BY MAKIN SOME RAW STREET RECORDS NOT MAINSTREAM ANYMORE, LIKE MIXTAPE FEATURING RAPPAHS SUCH AS KENDRICK AND KRIT THERES MANY OTHER WAY OTHER THAN RETIREMENT MAN AND U NEED TO FEED YA KIDZ TOO

  • #TRUTHHURTZ

without T.I. the game will be gayer than ever

  • Indeed

Clifford sounds retarded. First off, all of this is probably coming from the MTV Hip Hop POV Interview where Charlamagne put him in the "hot seat" for talking about selling drugs 10 years later after multi multi-platinum albums. Everybody pulls this card when they realize that their stock is dropping, TI is no different. Good for him that he wants to get out but stop poisoning my culture with this nonsense. Niggaz been makin records about "real" hip hop vs "fake" hip hop since it's birth. This shit is gettin predictable and corny

    • Your Opinion Means Nothing...

I take it you didn't read the article, because in the very first paragraph it says that he did this interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 this morning. I know, because I heard the interview.

the biggest problem is you have these dope rappers collabin with theses clowns ex. nas new album has a song with tyga on it, now i love nas but im not to excited for that track. what im saying is all these rappers who are real MC's need to collab with each other and they need to mix up there beats with some of the new style and the old so tese young kids hear it. im 19 and i know kids 2 years younger than me who never even heard of Nas, Big L, Wu Tang or even DMX just to name a few which is sad, besides Kendrick Lamar all the new cats wack

    • anon

wowsers! kendrick is wack? dnt eva let me catch u sayn that again i will beat the shyt out of u nygga. meek rap lyke a lil high pitched ass lil bitch!! fuck meek! kendrick bringing hip hop back if anythyng! if charles hamilton came bak i wuld b fuckn content wit rap just off them two niggas! electronica is nice tho i can giv u that.

hip hop hasnt been the same since 5O Cent and Game started beefin. hip hop went homo after lollipop. the only way to save the hip hop game is to tell it like it is.

  • west la

I gets down with TI cus despite what he has done and the bone head moves hes made he still comes across as someone who is genuinely himself. Also dude is a lyricist and has made hits. he put his mark on the game and really, what solo artist from the south not named Scarface is better than him. Obviously Andre is the best but thats under the context of a group. what true solo artist has been better over the last 5-10 years?

  • Shawn

Rap is far from dead people.. just stop listening to the radio thats what polliutes your ears. The RADIO is dead! You have talented artist such as kendrick lamar, ab soul, schoolboy q, big krit, j. cole, xv, chip the ripper, yelawolf, rittz, z-ro. You've just gotta get in tune with artist such as these. Their the future!

  • Old School Hip Hop 4 Life

I have to say, TIP is a man of honor and dignity about himself . I respect this man to the fullest and not falling for that homo shit that theses so call Rappers and The Entertainment Industry as a whole. Much respect to TIP..

  • Publicity Stunt

...and ain't this the pot calling the kettle black?

  • Really?

really Tip? you say that yet you sign that Iggy chick, make tracks with retarded rappers (that are exactly like you are talking about) like Future, and you make those type of songs sometimes as well. you hypocritical dumb ass.

    • ETK

No it isn't. He has money, why the fuck would he not rap about it Oh congrats you don't like iggy. Doesn't make him hypocritical bitch

    • Shawn

I agree 100% he went through his whole "road to redemption" and then goes back to rapping about drugs and money? he's back to his typical style of rapping just blending in with the rest. Very hyprocritical

  • NYYstateofmind

rap sucks now. i started listening to rock

  • emass

In Essence to many Cornballs in the rap game.. it's not authentic anymore.Rappers mouths are bigger than their Heart ex. I still mess with you Tip, but you got to realize like you just said, They Like That. No matter who spits that so-called street shit they like that. I agree, who the hell is TI to say that every other rapper is fake. TI was found with military grade weapons you can't find on any street, he was released 7 months later and had a spin off TV show. Who else does this happen to? Nobody, sounds sketchy who is he really working for? Hmmm

  • fuck u talking bout

  • SmacOne

    1) If an artist is only allowed to rap about his real life, he/she will eventually run out of material. ~SmacOne

Big fan of Tip (even though the nigga went and snitched to the feds to get a lesser charge) so heres hoping he dont leave the game. In terms of southern rappers Tip top 5, but I agree wit what he sayin. You got niggas now wearin leopard jeggings, kissin men, crying in they raps, starting fake beefs the game has got lame with all the faggotry and bad lyrics in hip hop. Luckily theyre still some cats that make hot music. Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Jake

This retarded as concept of "snitching" has already gotten and will continue to get dumb niggas like you killed. Assholes...fucking up your own communities.

  • Decatur Atl BOI

Actually, rappers need to broaden their subject matter. Rapping about selling Big dope and killing fictional folks is PLAYED WAY OUT. You are right T.I., people are lying, but it's because they have a narrow point of view and the listeners are ignorant to believe it. Any real dude knows that street folks do not talk about things they did in the streets, it's too dangerous and self implicating. So for a Rick Ross or others to talk about moving keys to Belize' and Bricks of Ye' to the bay is all fictional. But the sad part is folsk buy it, people actually like to be lied too. And then when someone real comes and talks about something that matters, everyone goes WTF?! but then complain that rappers need to diversify. America is stupid.

    • Your Opinion Means Nothing...

Co-sign 100%. Which is why I believe that Lupe Fiasco isn't as popular as he could or should be.

  • The Duke

wah! "rap isn't the same" wah!, Rap is constantly changing, adapt or die. T.I. USED to be the shit. Now he's crying cuz he has to re-earn his rank after jail. Nas is the shit right now.

    • Duke

what the fuck cuz? you cant just jump on here and take my name son.

    • Rap Or Die

Nas ain't shit right now. Nobody is. Nobody is having success in this bitch like they used to do back in the 90s.

    • The Duke

He doesn't HAVE to copy the CROSSDRESSERS There's tons of good rap out there (kendrick lamar, meek mill) He should just sell records or stop bitching.

    • Brown Frank White

      i would rather die also.

    • Anonymous

Who the fuck would want to adapt to a time period where the men dress like women & the rappers on the radio sound like they got lost trying to find the special Ed classroom? Adapt to that??........ I'd rather die, lol

nas wasnt lyin wen he said hiphop iz dead. evry rapper keeps tellin me im broke and how they bangin my gurl. jay z n kanye in paris while the rest of us broke as my tapeplayer. if evry body hates BET TV1 CENTRIC and they radio station why havnt they gotten da message.

  • Anonymous

Instead of retiring I would rather see T.I try and do summin to fix the problem Tip is one of the few dudes with a major label distributing his camp, if he wanted to he could make a dope, well rounded album with some meaning behind it and, even if it didnt work, at least he'd know he tried. Only way things will change is if people in powerful positions keep trying to change them.

TIP. Take the lead from Nas cuz. Hip Hop is Dead is his voice for what you're just now saying. But, it's 2012 and Nas is still coming hard. If your artists are outselling you, maybe you need to change up your grind.

  • Anonymous

He needs to stop paying attention to the radio and look elsewhere like most of us in our mid 20's and older have been doing. Radio Rap is for kids & idiots, but they arent the only ones out there making hip hop. Expand your horizons Tip, plenty of dope stuff out there

    • IRodman

You are right man, all the BS that air on radio and the Justin Biber's friends rappers are so lame I wanna pucke. TI is shiting from where the wind is coming tho, the exact thing he complains about is what he has been doing for years. The problem is not about rapping about thing you don't do, you can rap about something your friend or some one you know went through, or about something you noticed. It becomes a problem when you say you live a certain way when in fact you don't, like lil gayne who's talking about being a blood and is daddy/boyfriend baby tattooed 5 stars on his ugly head calling himself a OG when infact even veteran bloods said these guys are punk ass, they are running around yealling SOO WOOP when they don't know shit. Add to them Tigga, Drake, Rick Ross and all the rest like Mick Meel, Whale and the like. I believe if you walk around with Gay MCs you are one yourself otherwise you wouldn't. But history has proven that the gay ones are those who live longer and make the more cash, look at puff Daddy/P diddy/Diddy/Juda

    • Hop to the Hip

Co sign. The best rap out right now don't get radio spins. They keep sayin hip hop is dead id have to disagree and say rap is stronger than ever. These underground artist are making album quality mixtapes that are dope as shit. Good shit is out there.
