Two days ago, Harlem singer/rapper Teyana Taylor announced that had officially joined forces with Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music/Island Def Jam. Now, in a recent interview with MTV, Taylor explains how the deal came about.
According to Taylor, she's been down with the G.O.O.D. Music camp since she appeared on the song "Dark Fantasy" from Ye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. She explained that while she was still signed with Star Trak/Interscope during those recording sessions, she made strong connections with Yeezy and company.
"I have been actually working with the G.O.O.D. Music family for quite a while since we did the [My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy] thing," she explained. "Around the time we did the 'Dark Fantasy' song, I was still in my contract with Star Trak/Insterscope, and I had asked for my release because I wanted to just find myself as an artist. I had other options to go to different labels, but I felt like G.O.O.D. Music was somewhere that I wanted to be that I fit in…when I finally got my release, I released my mixtape, then I signed my contracts and here we go now...being signed to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam has opened more doors now that I finally have a team behind me that can push me to work harder."
