Afeni Shakur Praises Tupac Coachella Hologram

Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, found the moment to be "thrilling."

Tupac Shakur made a cameo appearance last night at Coachella 2012 during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s set, showing up in the form of a hologram to perform “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”

According to TMZ, Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, was “positively thrilled” about his virtual appearance during the show. She was not in attendance, but instead watched it on the Internet. For Afeni, the moment was “thrilling,” yet “bittersweet.”

Prior to the show, Dr. Dre asked Afeni for her approval and she said yes. In exchange for allowing his likeness to be used, Dre made a donation to The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

Ya'll so called "huge 2Pac fans" are a bunch of cry babies! Ok Pac was mad at Dr. Dre because he left death Row & wouldn't produce anymore music (which was hyped up by Suge & the media which means some of u angry fans)...Pac was mad at Snoop cause he said he liked some of Biggie's music, SO WHAT!! He still kicked it with Snoop until the time of his death. AND did yall forget 2Pac perform with Bigge too?? Quit being negative & appreciate the fact that Pac's MOTHER is keeping him & his music out there for us. What's next? yall gonna be bitchin' about a movie about his life?

  • thecool

Yall need 2 stop complaining. The point of the hologram was to pay homage and give a good show for the fans and thats what they did. Who wouldnt want 2 see Pac come back to life and perform, that shit was classic.

Why can't black people just let this man rest in peace? His rap skills wasn't that sick, he's just the first big name to be murdered for bein a "thug" and talkin too much...happens everyday in the hood but those niggaz dont get nuthin...move on

    • MalcolmLittle

@ 3rd Anon Yeah you're right fam, times HAVE changed since the '90s...but for the worst. Same issues Black folks faced then that Pac spoke on, we still face today and THEN some. Racism, police brutality, gang violence, drugs, teen pregnancy, dropout rates, etc. You really gonna sit there with a straight face and tell me that shit ain't still plaguin us in 2012? Or are you one of these ignorant niggas blinded by all the "get money" talk, chasin somethin that's losin more and more value everyday? "Who's speakin up for Black people today?" ^^^ NO ONE with a real platform, that's for damn sure....and the ones that are speakin up, they suppress so the masses never receive the message. Open your eyes.

    • Anonymous

faggot, if pac would real ease another posthumous album it will go #1 and u niggaz say times changed. he a fuckin legend, like big is. no nigga today can speak to the people like he did. niggaz who are famous today can't even rap (Lil wayne).

    • Mack

Stop being salty a dead man got more clout then you to chumps.

    • Anonymous

nigga he dead...he been dead for 16 years, he ain't the voice for nobody today. Times have changed since the 90's, who speakin up for black people today? And why exactly can't black people speak up for themselves...we don't need pac we can do it ourselves

    • Anonymous

nah you sound stupid cause he was a voice for those who couldn't speak out from hoods, suburbs, any and everywhere in the world its a shame that people like you say the the dumbiest shit pac will never ever just go away cause he's dead you think people will forget never even after me and you die they still will play pac music thats forever

  • Anonymous

    Thank you Dr.Dre!~

  • West Coast G

Now all you stupid ass niggas who bitchin bout the Pac performance can shut the fuck up. Afeni herself gave her blessing. For niggas like me who grew up listening to Pac, last night was fuckin epic cuz it was reminder of how great Pac was once.

AFENI SHAKUR RELEASE SOME NEW MUSIC A NEW ALBUM WITH A HOLOGRAM CONCERT WOULD BE MAJOR- HER FOUNDATION WOULD MAKE MILLIONS

  • blitzlegga

i'm sure Biggie's mom is starting a charity as we speak so that Puffy and/or Jay-Z can "donate" to it to use the Biggie hologram. but then again, maybe she don't own the rights to all things Biggie like Pac's mom does.

After surviving two fights of breast cancer and her son's death, she took over her son's estate and started the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation to bring education to the inner city. ^ if you really wanted to know you have searched it instead of posting some foolishness to show how ignorant you are.

    • Anonymous

they are way too selfish to do something like that

  • BlazeDatIshUp

Tupac is and always will be my favourite rapper period, and I think the hollogram performance was dope. I don't get why people are bitchin'... Dre asked to use it, was told he could and he made a donation to the foundation.

I actually liked Loyal To The Game, but I see your point. I doubt Pac would have been down with people like G Unit, or the scores of other rappers who have used his name in song for the past how many years. I wonder when Afeni will come out and say enough is enough. Remember him on the anniversary of his death if you need too, but don't use his image to promote anything.

    • ETK

His image was never gonna be used any other way. And to think on what you're against, this "promotion" actually did him some fuckin favors, IMAGE wise. They won't do this for every fly by night rapper that hits the dirt they'll do it for icons.. 2pac.. What kinda fan do you figure would be against somethin like this..

    • Anonymous

Exactly real talk glad you see where I'm coming from.

  • GoReadABook

16 years later and dudes still spewing out deslusions of their own self-righteous continuance of enmity and discord. Celebrate his life. Don't focus on the negative. The people on here that are saying negative stuff about this are supporting a mindset that got not only resulted in the deaths of BIG and Pac, but the deaths of every single person who's life was taken due to gang violence and street life. Why? Shit is dumb. We gotta unite or we are going to end up killing ourselves off.

  • Anonymous

    case fucking closed.

  • nickrazor2000

If Afeni gave it the thumbs up and money goes to chairity then that should be the end of the discussion. All this "2pac is rollin in his grave" bullshit is stupid and ridiculous. I was a huge 2pac fan and i thought it was all done very respectfully. I dont know why all yall pac fans are cryin like babies. I guess its true, some hip hop fans will never be happy with anything.

    • Anonymous

Destroyed what? All his OTHER music is still there if you didn't like his posthumous records. The REAL issue is it's Pac's MOM, YOUR thoughts do not matter to HER family. She is SUPPOSED to be selfish and CONTROL HER SON'S estate. Would you be happy if JIMMY IOVINE controlled it? You're the one being selfish here.

    • Anonymous

LOL. Afeni is the reason why we have albums like Loyal To The Game and Pac's life. I respect Afeni but she's done a lot of things like destroying his music, being a bit selfish when Pac died because she wanted all the money see even now even though Coachella is a non-profit event he had to make a "donation" which is really just Dre paying Afeni to use Pac's hologram because she owns anything and everything Pac and Pac related so tbh once again no disrespect to Pac's mom what she says doesn't mean much to me. His hologram wasn't needed just his music. Imma huge Pac fan and I think it wasn't needed. As far as if Pac could see this he would be rolling for him LOL I don't think he would really care about Holograms as much as he would care what was done to his music after his passing.

  • L-Boogie

They should just honor and celebrate Pac's legacy by putting out the rest of his original unreleased material for the fans. Pac stayed calling out Dre and was mad at Snoop for saying he liked Biggies music.

    • Anonymous

L-Boogie I agree with you on the first part but Anon has a point about your second part. Imma huge Pac fan and the beef/grudge died with Pac plus it's been 16 years I don't think Pac would have held a grudge for that long so I don't get why FANS care so much about personal problems between THEM PLUS ONE OF THEM IS DEAD AND ITS BEEN 16 YEARS. Pac's my favorite of all time but I got love for Mobb Deep, Biggie, Dre etc. and these were people he all beefed with. Hell my favorite track from BIG is Long Kiss Goodnight which is a Pac diss. Imma fan of Pac but first and fore most real hip-hop/rap so i'm unbiased. Fans whoever they are need to stop all the dick riding so much and look at things objectively for monce.

    • Anonymous

so if you friend dies mad at you you aint never gonna speak his name ever again? you must be the worst friend ever.

  • Anonymous

Pac fan here and to me this was the most amazing thing that has happened all year. Thank you so much for helping keep Pacs legacy alive in todays society, we still need his influence and music. RIP Pac

  • Anonymous

No offende but I stopped caring what she thinks when she let Eminem destroy that "Loyal to the Game" record, I get that she is trying to keep her sons name out there and honor his legacy but she makes alot of bad decisions

  • Mr Flamboyant

Now that is cool. Glad this part of the news finally got out. I can see the debate on both sides but when it's all said and done, Moms gave her approval and Dre was humble and respectful enough to seek such before hand. RIP 2Pacalypse.

  • Anonymous

rip pac. respect to afeni. fuck you bitch ass pac fans who cry about everything.
