Soul veteran Bobby Womack has been diagnosed with colon cancer, according to his friend Bootsy Collins.
In a post on Facebook, Collins said that Womack wanted to thank fans for the support and that he isn’t in good spirits.
“I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK. He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers. Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up. Thxs Funkateers, we will get him Back on the One,” he wrote.

Womack, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, most recently appeared on Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach LP in ’10, and is slated to release a new album The Bravest Man in the Universe on June 12th.
