DJ Quik Does Not Believe Dr. Dre Will Ever Release "Detox," Says Dre Is "Professional" But "Mean" In Studio

DJ Quik says he doesn't believe Dr. Dre will ever let go of his "Detox" brainchild and adds details about what it's like to work with Dre in the studio. "He's a slave driver in the studio. He'll make you cry," he added.

After many years of updates and delays, it seems Dr. Dre's Detox will never come out. At least that's what DJ Quik believes. The longtime Dr. Dre collaborator (and sometimes rival) recently unveiled his thoughts on why the album will probably never see the light of day. He noted that it's musically "advanced" and added that he backs Dre on whatever his decision may be. He also spoke on working with Dre in the studio and said Dre "will make you cry" because "he's a perfectionist to a fault."

"I don't really believe that Dr. Dre's gonna release [Detox]," he said in an interview with Nui Te Koha for The Herald Sun. "I think he's kind of over it and rightfully so. If he does put it out, it's gonna come out without the fanfare."

Quik added that Dre doesn't need to continue making music based on what he's done in the past. He also said the album is advanced and noted that some may not be prepared for it.

"He's done it. He's already succeeded. He doesn't have to prove to anybody that he can make a hot record. What else can he do? He can't reinvent the wheel. He's already made all the wheels in Hip Hop. I think it's hard for him to let go of another brainchild that he might think some people won't even appreciate because some of it is advanced. I've listened to it. It's a smart record."

Through this, Quik says Dre has his support if he decides not to release the project and adds that he would probably do the same if he were in Dre's shoes.

"I'm with him one hundred percent if he doesn't want to release Detox because in his world, it's just another plaque. Because of how finicky Hip Hop fans are now and how here-today-gone-tomorrow things could be, I wouldn't want to take that chance with my career either."

Moreover, Quik spoke on what it's like to be with Dre in the studio. He acknowledged Dre's professionalism but likened him to a slave driver and said he expects perfection from artists.

"Dr. Dre is a slave driver in the studio," he shared. "He'll make you cry. You actually have to be perfect in the studio to work with him. If you're not, you won't be in the studio with him. He's very professional, but at the same time, he's totally, totally, totally mean when it comes to production. He'll tell you exactly how he feels about something if he don't like it. He's a perfectionist and almost a perfectionist to a fault. But that's what defines him. That's what made him who he is. He's iconic in that way. He don't just let things slide because his pride and his career is riding on it."

I dont care when Dre busts out detox or if he even does it all anymore. What I cant f u c k i n stand though is constantly seeing him and Eminem dressed as Medical doctors that shit is so f u c k i n gay! Your a master at dropping beets not some medical surgeon. When you drop that album I wanna see some Ben Davis shirts, dickie pants, Chuck taylors and some real gangsta shit come out...not all this I need a doctor bullshit

  • outofhand

Why all the hostility? I was never much of a Dr. Dre fan after NWA, yet why would you get so upset with this man if you love him so? Honestly nobody owes anyone anything. He put out music you loved at one point and time and you ate it all up. Now he is or has been basically retired. Give him some respect and adoration for the career and path he trail blazed for all of those out there who bit his style and tried to become a carbon copy of him instead of being themselves, which would've really been taking a cue from the man. Do you really think anyone in his position give two fucks about what any of us out here say or think? He has made his mark he is living his life and no one could even fathom what the hell it would be like to do so. You need him more than he needs to please you, and at the end of the day you look sad and stupid for saying fuck him when you obviously crave his dick in your ear way too fucking much.

does anyone else find it funny that where a couple of years ago, mad industry people would constantly hype up detox and talk about how it's "coming," it's "in the mixing phase," or that dre is "finalizing tracks" on it? or that it's "one of the best albums ever"? (and they still do to an extent) but now that it actually looks like this thing isn't coming out and dre has moved on, those SAME motherfuckers are blowing rainbows up his ass talking about, "he doesn't owe anyone (the fans who have waited over a decade) anything [...] he could retire now and still be a legend or whatever based off the strength of what he's already done." the last person i've seen say that was quik but i've definitely heard it elsewhere more than once. see, that right there rustles my fucking jimmies. don't get me wrong, i could give less of a fuck about this album and it's been that way for a couple of years, and i know for a fact that should it be released at any point in time it would be a coaster/weedplate glorified by people like scott storch cause dre kinda doesn't give a fuck about making music anymore and it shows. but... he doesn't owe his fans anything? REALLY? the fans that bought your albums and merch and showed up at your shows and are the entire reason your ass is even able to masturbate to yourself in the mirror while wearing your headphones? those fans? the fans that are the reason you're a multi millionaire? it's worse still that he refuses to even drop a word on it, we have to hear about how it's NOT coming out through word of mouth. if you REALLY feel like your music isn't good enough to put out then at least come out and be a man about the shit. be open about it. go out in public and say your ass fucked up and wasn't able to pump out a 16 track disc after 13 years. no one'll hate you. some people might, but at least then you could move on without people badgering you about detox, which is your fault. that's great. whatever. i'm only pissed cause my anticipation of this album has waned over the years but my intrigue has not. i wanna see (or "wanted to see" rather) where he would go with this one because of all the myth and mystique behind it but dude is just a pompous asshole. fuck him. might literally be the biggest assclown in the industry, having his lackies talk about he doesn't owe his fans anything after all these years. fuck outta here. by the way if you ask me, dre's entire legacy/credibility has been botched as a result of all this. if you think otherwise, or happen to still have hope for this album coming out, you're either, a) lying to yourself, b) a motherfucking stan who refuses to let this shit go (kinda like i can't right now), or c) both.

  • Optimist

IMO, anybody who has lost interest in Dr. Dre's Detox Lp isn't a real Dre fan...fuck that...they're not even a real hip hop fan. The fact that so many artist and producers have flocked to work with him is a testament to the man's importance to the the culture. Instead of everyone congregating to every blog related to Dre and starting a hate convention, I wonder what would happen if the REAL Dre fans started voicing their anticipation and encouraging the man to release Detox?? I for one am still awaiting Detox. In this current state of hip hop we need a prolific producer like Dre to release material. I love hip hop as a whole, but there is just something special about a Dr. Dre record. Listening to his music I just get the sense that he has a rare gift and was born fro the specific reason of creating music for fans to enjoy. There is a short list of hip hop producer I feel are just absolutely gifted and can't be touched at what they do: DJ Premier, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Pete Rock, Q-Tip,(a couple others), and DR. MUTHAFUCKIN' DRE. Eat a dick if you disagree.

    • ^^^

ya keep dre meat in ya mouth yet you refuse to recognize dat the nigga been done gave up on you and every other fan he has about 8 years ago. fuck outta here nigga. move on. it's a lot of dope hip-hop comin out daily dat ain't gettin its just due cuz a clown ass stan muhfuckas like yo ass. grow up nigga. it ain't 2005 no more. ain't no detox nigga LMAO

nah nigga you could eat a dick cause you a mothafuckin stan straight up. after that you could drive ya mothafuckin prius off a bridge. bitch ass nigga

I Honestly Feel That I Can Speak For Almost Every Dre Fan. I Got To Where I Done Lost Interest In The Album. Over A Decade Bruh? Nah. So I Can't Give 2 Fucks About It Anymore. Very Sad To Say But It Is What It Is. Michael Jackson's Thriller Went 29x Multi-Platinum & We All Know He Was Just As Much Of A Perfectionist As Dre & It Didn't Take Him Over 10 Years To Complete. Nah. And Then Everybody Wanna Make Excuses For Him Sayin' Them Headphones Is Also A Reason He Hasn't Dropped Detox Due To Them Sellin' Right Now. That May Be True However, Them Headphones Were Dropped In 08. Detox Was Supposed To Be Release Sometime After 2001. So There's Still That 6 - 7 Year Gap. So What Was He Doin Those Years? Workin' On Other Artists/Clientele Which Is Understandable But Let's Get Real. You're Willin To Delay Your Own Personal Project To Focus On Other Niggaz Who As You Said "Forgot About You"? Niggaz Ain't Stupid. On Top Of That Dre Is No Longer In Colaboration Wit Monster As Of January 12th. So He Has No Excuse To NOT Drop The Album Sometime Soon. Perfectionist Or Not. But Seriously, Who Cares About Detox Anymore?

  • Anonymous

Good points NPG. I do think it's partly about the money. The powers that be probably thought Detox would do incredible numbers, but the longer it took, then suddenly it was like maybe we won't promote this as much. Or pay a million people to be on it. Maybe Dre realized that the songs he did create for the album were weak compared to his older stuff. Granted, I doubt people would have been that critical considering The Chronic 2001, aside from a few songs, was far from a classic, but after years of people building him up, I think dude just got cold feet.

  • NPG

Honestly, I don't even think I care anymore. It's a shame to say it because Dr. Dre is obviously talented and has put out some great stuff, but after about a decade of "detox" "Detox" "Watch out for DETOX" it's just like "WHATEVER, DRE." I thought we were closer than ever with the releases of "Kush" and "I Need a Doctor," but apparently that meant nothing. And what's with all the excuses and crap? Well, the music isn't original or groundbreaking enough. It's not perfect. Dre is a legend; he doesn't have anything to prove. Oh, Dre is tired of these records he's been workin on, so he's going back and gonna make all new ones. Blah blah blah blah BLAH. People say, "well, he can't put out something just good, because his musical legacy... it needs to be amazing" and all this bullsh**. What happened to just making good music? Just do what feels good and put it out. He's talented enough, he knows the business, he's got the experience, everyone is (or was) excited about the album, so he could pretty much get anyone to work with him on whatever he wants for it. What's holding him back? It has to make money? THIS ALBUM WILL AT LEAST GO GOLD FIRST WEEK. GUARANTEE IT. By today's standards, that's INCREDIBLE. Even with NO heavily promoted single. Based off of the names involved, it will sell. Dr Dre. Eminem. Snoop Dogg. For now let's just stop there. Platinum in the first month with no promotion, just based on it being out and word of mouth. As people have said, he doesn't have anything to prove, so what's the problem? Just make good music and put it out. By now he should probably drop a double disc of dope material. But If he feels he can't make great music anymore or he doesn't care anymore, just be honest and public about it, and move on to something else. Actually, it'd be really funny if he said that, and then a month later the album dropped out of nowhere LOL. Just to mess with everyone

  • Anonymous

He won't release it because everyone knows it's not even done. Just random songs thrown together that failed to spark any interest. Honestly, Dre should have just come out and said he wasn't feelin the creative process of music. Then I think people would have accepted that excuse and moved on instead of waiting for news of a release date that probably will never come.

  • Anonymous

the west coast outside of a couple acts aint . nothing but blood suckers. everything he put out was just to make money and thats a good look for him . its never but about culture with him. ice cube is different dude still going put shit out to help give back to the music that made his rich. this dude dont respect the art if he did he can see it aint shit no more he come back andhit in the hit just because. d.j premier been doing it. they aint really making no serious money and they aint becoming any more famous but that do shit the help the culture.

    • joaquin

Yo dude, if you are going to post some shit up on the internet ANYWHERE, proofread and spell check your comment. You are critiquing a legend and can't seem to manage putting a single sentence together correctly.

    • Anonymous

Ain't nothing about west coast rappers, respecting the art, money or nothing like that. People getting all bent out of shape because of QUIK'S OPINION, and it MAY be TRUE, Dre's top priority MAY NOT be releasing an long awaited album. And you selfish fans who always want music the way you want it when you want it cannot comprehend this.

  • Anonymous

Dr. Dre is a faget "We shook dre's punk ass up now he out of the closet" -2Pac "Aint made a beat in six years, claims hes the shit, wont get record sells sucking nas dick" -2Pac HAHAHAHA Name a verse Dre wrote

  • Anonymous

What's up with hip-hop and laziness. "Oh he aint got nothin' to prove because he's done it"...and? Like Doug E. Fresh's lazy ass. Dude made one record, and still some how goes around playin La Di Da Di.

  • gwavhavha

the question is how big is his fan base today? if by then (1999) his fans where 20's years old, how old are they now? Dre might take 20 years to perfect detox but it will take a week for his album to get off top 100, nowadays youth buys the album for those who fart best over the mic like Cash Money and you cannot expect Dre to do that, he shoul retire

  • isaac

he doesnt need to make money off this album. he just wants to have another timeless album

  • isaac

BEFORE YOU READ ANY OF THIS SHIT. Just realize that 90% of the people here are talking out of their ass and the rest of the 10% know what they are saying. he has a very high standard to live to: the chronic and the chronic 2001. he did the right thing at the right time. now hes pressured to recreate that same impact because of how much those 2 albums hold weight for his image and reputation as an artist.

  • Anonymous

I think Quik straight said the record is weak on the low and he need to hang it up lol thats what I heard! Just kidding

  • Oatmealandaliens

According to ancient astronaut theorists, "It's a smart record and it's to advanced for humans".....................I just want to hear the record because many top producers and MC's gave Dre some of their best stuff to work with. I also think we humans have evolved enough to understand the record Mr. Quik

  • music1loveca

well i agree with what quik is saying it does make sense and hes just keeping it real.....but you never know, we should wait for the coachella performance he might release some new shit.

  • Anonymous

no surprise here. Dr.Dre ghostwriters don't have that fire power any more. I heard Jay Z gave him some Lil Wayne like rhymes for his "Forever D.R.E" track lol.

  • wtf

Since when did "proving a point" have anything to do with music. Yo Quik, ever thought that people want him to release Detox purely based on the fact that just maybe they wanna feel the same feelings as they did from his first two albums? But nope, releasing an album "is just a plaque on the wall"...strong vanity phaggot

    • Anonymous

Dudes getting mad at Quik now, lol. You guys' self entitlement just because you want to hear some beats is comical.

    • Anonymous

quik is a bitch made sellout. niggas mad his last album was a piece of shit that didnt sell, hes in it for the money just like dre. dre got money, fame, and is scared of doing the thing that got him that status, music. nigga is literally scared of dropping something we dont like. some confidence. pac said it. gay ass dre.

  • dz77

Sick of people talking about why Dre wont release music in this climate. Effecting his legacy and all that. MAN, PUT IT OUT QUALITY MATERIAL. Kanye and JAY dont say "we cant release WTT in the current state of hip hop". They made the proper adjustments to make sure they're music DID NOT LEAK. Fuck the scrutiny. JAY's spot as one of hiphop's greats is set in stone and so is DRE's. Honestly I gives a fuck if he release it or not. The "Kush" song was boring and seemed like it wouldve made more of impact in 2005 or something. "I NEed A Doctor" was okay... then after you heard it about 3x you liable to delete the shit of the mp3 player What no one has mentioned is that maybe the game has evolved past the music he wants to make. Part of being a great artist/producer is moving with the times... not duplicating shit... just adapting. One of the reasons I respect Jay-Z is because he he has been consistent through all the changes in hiphop Prime example of a nigga who struggled with the times: NAS. Lyrics second to NONE. But nigga... I cant bump your shit in my car with NO bass and you rapping over break beats you pulled out of 1988! IM NOT saying DRE should make a Shawty Red beat lol. Just saying that his concepts and material may be better placed in the 2002-2005 state of hiphop. And he MAY be too stubborn to adjust. JUST MY THEORY

    • Anonymous

Dre doesn't have to do what he doesn't want to do, all of that typing you're doing isn't going to change anything. Look at you speculating, downgrading and analyzing, and for what? An album? SMH.

  • Mr Chan

Shit dre why u slaving my nigga quik, Fuckin this ain't 1800's stop slavin niggaz why u think my nigga Lincoln abolish that shit, u ain't gonna make some hard for your shit, dre u can finish detox ya self ya dig!!!!!!!

  • Doja

Dre is a grown man. He's been there and done it 10 times over. He's an icon, and a great producer. But as a stand alone artist he is better than good but not the best or amazing. Chronic 2001 worked well because of the hot dre beats and the cast of collaborating artists on the songs. Detox is no doubt a great project because he has invested so much into it. If he puts it out I'll buy it...if he doesn't ...oh well. His fans are now mostly grown parents or dead or in jail (obviously not everybody fits in those categories), but for the most part. These newbies in the game really have no idea about Dre and his impact and music. All they know is new school like Drake, emeniem, and T.I. Dre's music started them all. Real talk...Dre has more artist fans nowadays than consumer fans. Besides do you really care about the Detox album...I mean really? Is it really going to complete your life? Hell no. When was the last time you thought about it without someone already mention Dre. Only Dre wakes up in morning like....oh chit I need to work on Detox. I wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, and put in work. A lot of y'all should do the same and stop worrying about things out of your control. www.micdoja.com. this ain't detox but real music from a real artist

  • The Truth

LMFAO....dr dre treating his fans like heroin addicts. fuck dre

  • GBtha G

dj quick just rubbishin..... Detox will certainly come out!

  • GBtha G

fuck dis shet. Detox will come sooner or later.I say lay off The Good Doc y'all imbecile muthafuckaz!!!!!

  • Tim

Yo everyone compares his reasoning from a monetary standpoint...let me dumb it down for you dumb fucks... DRE has not been mentioned on Forbes top 100 richest African Americans. Therefore, it's ALL about the money to him and this industry has him twisted. He will drop it... doesn't matter when.

    • Anonymous

LOL @ you. So because he isn't mentioned on a list means he is not wealthy? You are the dumb one here. He's in no rush to drop an album when he's only going to get perhaps a dollar or two per unit when he can sell $300 headphones and get other endorsements, make more net revenue and not leave his house. Idiot.

so sick of hearing about gay ass dre and detox. dr.dre ain't done shit in 10 years worth hearing, yet he's still covered like he's sitting on magic. his time has come. if he bowed out like a legend and officially called it quits 10 years ago id still respect him. instead he strings everyone along with no intentions of ever delivering on his promised detox. go sell your headphones, and be jimmy iovines monkey slave and corporate whipping boy, and stop paying niggas to hype up a project thats never coming out. not like he spent any money. all those failed singles and wack vids were paid for by dr.pepper, chrysler, hp, monster, etc. dre is a commerical hoe, pimping crap product like 300 dollar headphones that aren't any good on the people like a good little slave. dre wont drop an album if he cant get stupid paid? nigga hasnt made enough money? greedy little monkey boy, stay safe in the house andre, jimmy will keep you safe. til you stop being profitable, and the headphones shit dies out, and you got nothing. like when dre lost everything at death row, and got rescued by jimmy iovine and was about to get dropped til he gave eminem a shot. dres a bitch, false icon.

For someone who's so sick and tired you mustered up enough strength to type a novel filled with business information. Quite obvious you have been watching every move. The moral of the story is Dr Dre does not need to fill your closet racist music quota.

  • the 7 day theory

detox gonna drop when pac comes back... lol 50 and game are gonna be on a track together and puff and suge are gonna executive produce it. em is gonna write dres lyrics and snoop is gonna quit smoking weed. biggie might make an appearance featuring lil kim and nicki minaj on the same track. also eazy e and ice cube gonna be on a track and jam master jay gonna be the dj on the tour. its gonna be dope as fuck and hip hop will be back to normal again because people love music and not a PACKAGED PRODUCT that was infiltrated by corporations to make people be obsessed with materialism and mysogony. the illuminati will be behind this record because jay-z nas and kanye and probably rihanna and beyonce will have tons of youtube videos explaining what all the symbolism means. the record will drop on dec 12, 2012 just when the mayan calendar ends and jesus, buddha, krishna, and mohammad will shoe up to the listening party. word. Drake will not be featured on the album lol

Really who care if he release it or not, hip hop have pass Dr. Dre a long time ago, can someone tell me the last hot track Dr.Dre produce, seriously, that nigga had his time and it gone, it time he bow out.

  • Lumbajack

I really hope this is a ploy to draw Dr. Dre out from the dark. There's plenty of rap fans that are open to new sounding music. In many ways, the culture has been progressing over the past few years, especially lyrically. We don't even need to bring up those lame rappers that somehow sell a lot of records, there's still room in this world for good rap, and a new Dre record. And if we don't like it, we'll get over it. To hold the album back from the public for the reasons suggested in this article is stupid.

    • SRR

Agreed. Quik says it's a "smart record". If Detox turns out anything like Kendrick Lamar's Section.80, which is also a "smart record", it's gonna get things jumping.

    • Anonymous

Dre doesn't have to do anything but live his life. You suggesting anything else would be stupid. It's just a compact disc full of music, not a vaccination to cure diseases.

  • RR

It's the same reason why you'll never see another Justin Timberlake album - who the fuck would want to come out with a CD these days, only for it to be forgotten about after a week?

  • RR

90% of the people on sites like these don't even buy albums anymore...They download it when it leaks, listen to for a day or two, and then they're on to the next Gucci, Wacka, Tyga, etc. mixtape. I don't blame Dre for not wanting to put an album out in this climate.

  • ShadowPrecinct

The Chronic and The Chronic 2001 are two classic albums. Ask yourself, does my favorite rapper have two classic records under their belt? Answer is most likely, no. I wanted Detox like the next person, but as soon as he made hundreds of millions of dollars off of his headphones, why the FUCK would he care about putting out an album half you cats are gonna download anyway? Just put out a series of mixtapes with all the scrapped shit. That'd be enough for me.

    • NiggaJ

2001, also known as The Chronic 2001, is the second studio album by American hip hop artist Dr. Dre, released November 16, 1999////its KNOWN as both tho.

    • Anonymous

*Other than that all your points are valid.

    • Anonymous

Not to be nitpicky but tha album was called "2001" not the "Chronic 2001" that's been a huge pet peeve of mine for years now. Other than that all your points. Considering the recording industry is in it's zombie stages I can understand why he doesn't put it out NOW, but I'm still majorly annoyed with him as it should've bn out at least a millenium ago. I just pray dude's ego doesn't get in tha way of K.Dot's major label debut

  • Sensaye252

Quik would love to retire. He wants that throne. They're both all-time greats. It would be dope if Dre actually dropped Detox, but honestly, it's kind of a good thing that Dre doesnt drop anything right now. You can tell he doesn't have a passion for it right now. I'd rather he take some time, hopefully not another ten years, and just find the desire to do it. Not just for the money.

  • Anonymous

"He'll make you cry", no shit, he's already made 90% of this site's users cry about the album not being released.

  • Assassin221

So what, it's finished, Quik has listened to it, it's advanced, it's a smart record, but he supports Dre 100% if he decides not to release it? I don't understand that shit. I know business and legacy and all that are factors, but whatever happened to artistry? Just wanting to contribute something to hip-hop for the sake of the music and the people who want to hear it? That's some selfish shit to me.

    • Mr.Wow

Just because your favorite producer made a track doesn't mean he has to release it to the masses because it's his/her art. Art can be a form of therapy for the artist and maybe the music he is creating now is for his treatment. Your mom cooks food in the kitchen for her family not the entire block, city, or state. Next time she cooks tell her she is being selfish for not offering me some. If he is in a happy state of mind creating music that you can't hear then let him. Let him take his time with releasing it if he wants to release it. You fans are the selfish ones thinking that you are entitled to everything your artist does. Your perception is blurry and you should want to change that.

Dre could accomplish a classic album with all the hip hop credibility he has. But the bitch in him won't let him won't let him forget about the business aspect and create some uncut raw hip hop in the purest form. Dre is from a different era, and is too scared even though he has a name which is seemingly infinite, and basically in the hip hop hall of fame in every mind on planet earth.

wish somebody would hack into an aftermath computer like they did for Michael Jackson's unreleased records, so we can all laugh at what this alleged "perfection has been doing for the last 12+ years"

  • Anonymous

And please don't be thinking because its gonna take 15 years, it's going to be something special!

  • 100

Simply put, Dre really doesn't have anything to rap about anymore. I mean come on yawl, the man is what, 50? He would have to force himself to act "hard" and ignorant. You can't fake the funk and most cats are too young to digest mature material.

    • ryan

has nothing to rap about are you serious he only has two solo albums rap about old age use the same lyrics i dont give a fuck change the beat just bring the shit out look at too short he has about 18 albums nothing to rap about retard theres always something to rap about

I watched the Beats Rhymes Life documentary the other night, and someone actually compares Q-Tip to Dre, and the Axl Rose situation. When Tip was putting the Low End Theory together he just wouldn't submit it b/c he too is a perfectionist, but beyond that he's got the creative gene. He will make something, feel it for a few days and then find something he doesn't like about it and scrap it. Dre seems to work the same way, a brilliant ear for music at times, but he gets tired of an aspect of it and refuses to release it. The only way Detox is ever coming out is the same way the Low End Theory came out, an industry exec needs to rip it out of the hands of its creator because Dre won't let it go, it needs to be ripped from his hands.

quick said 'What else can he do? He can't reinvent the wheel. He's already made all the wheels in Hip Hop' you dont have to reinvent the wheel, just put some fat rims on it. detox should of dropped when 50 and games first albums came out round 2004/5. dre needs to put out 'hey young world' that snippet is crazy. if he does drop detox, i hope eminem isnt on it, or only on a couple of tracks, cant stand his new flow. tyler the creator xzibit slim da mobster 50 cent the game kendrick lamar j. cole method man snoop dogg frank ocean rbx wouldnt mind these niggas on the album, and a few more.

  • HONEST DRE FAN

STRIKE 1 - No Helter Skelter with Ice Cube STRIKE 2 - No NWA Reunion STRIKE 3 - No Detox (Foul Tips: Bishop Lamont, Rakim, Joell Ortiz, Eve, Raekwon ETC ETC)

  • kennyken

if he doesn't he doesn't, but i hope like hell quik comes out again. his maturer albums are very high-scaled. he's a perfectionist himself.

  • klo

I don't believe this at all. Dre as a mean perfectionist and telling you if he doesnt like it in the studio? Then WHY didn't he tell eminem that his new albums are straight shit? Also dre wants to leave the game with a bang so he will be putting out Detox. Its just a matter of when

  • illmatic88

its a shame how Dre still hasn't delivered to his fans after all these years of teasing them with magazine covers. hidden interviews, and singles that clearly promote his overhyped headphones (the klipsch headphones kill the dre headphones and are half price cheaper). Ive been a big dre supporter since the chronic. whats sad is that I've heard about Detox dropping since 2003 in college. I still remember that xxl magazine with Busta, Eve, Dre, and Game on the cover with the title "Detox coming soon!" Now, its been like almost 9 years and no album, just stupid interviews trying to hype it up. Im sick of it now, just release it Dre. Its so overhyped now that the you are losing anticipation within the fans. once you do that, its going to be a lot more difficult for it to be received as a classic.

  • Sean Swenson

If he is such a perfectionist why is he having all these awful producers like DJ Khalil and Just Blaze work on his album? The fuck you doing Dre? He produced The Chronic entirely by himself and it features some of the slickest beats of the 90's. I guess he's just selling out by working with these fools to make money off the sheep that listen to the trash that we call the hip-hop of today. Don't fuck with the formula Dre!

    • casper21

You'd be a fool to think Dre is solely responsible for that album, a lot of people made that album sound the way it did, Dre just gets most of the credit. He works with a core team of revolving people, he's not a solo one man producer.

  • bigfoot89

There's a reason why Dre called it Detox, because that's all he's been doing instead of working on the project...

  • DutchWeazel

Forget about Detox Just name it ''The Chronic 3000'' Dre needs to keep that West Coast sound Dre needs to work with rappers that compliment that style Dre dont have to work with swaggrappers cause they have a temporary hype Because Dre is Dre, and his shit normaly stands the test of time Legendary

  • jaydoubl

Appreciate Quik, but thats just a lame excuse to not put the album out.. at worst rename it... But Dre aint hyping detox right now.. he hyping headphones... which is a much better excuse for not puttin out charting music

  • hypestyle

it's all too bad that Dre' has become the Axl Rose of hip-hop, chasing down the "perfect hip hop album". it's like Ahab chasing Moby DIck-- it's more about the chase than the actual capture-- Like Michael Jackson after thriller, he knows that there are expectations on sales, but he's obsessed with creating a "classic" like the Chronic ended up being. Only, you really can't just "create" a classic with a formula in mind. You can do your best, then leave it up to the people as to how they respond. Springsteen's early albums didn't really take off until he was several years into his career. My hope is that if anything comes out, it is a double disc, just for the sake of really putting out enough so people can take time to assimilate it, especially so he won't have to bother with recording "anymore" as his own artist after this.

  • jason

this sounds like some whiney old skool cats industry complaining shit to me. we know hes a vet in the game and we know all the rumors about how advanced the album is in comparision to these young bucks. Your more known for your headphones now to this new generation so why not take a chance? Quik's last album was a huge letdown after a 6 yr hiatus i expect a safe and sound album.

No one cares anymore dre.. It was a fun ride while it lasted bruh.. Unfortunately his extreme professionalism an his stone like work ethic proved to be his downfall.. We've heard all the legendary stories of how dre is n the studio.. An I honestly cant think of a song tht dre produced within at least 5 yrs that charted.. He allowed so many new producers to come an changed the sound of rap.. Lex luger.. The weekend .. dream.. Cool n dre .. so many new sounds.. Hell evn soulja boy evn producing.. Whr u at dre?

  • Decatur ATL BOI

Detox is like an urban legend, you hear about it, certain people have said they have seen it, but there is no tangible proof.

  • Anonymous

nigga quik said it right....fuck dre

  • thought dog

Detox already served its purpose...Tons of free publicity from sites like this towards Dr Dre while he promoted his overpriced piece o' shit headphones.

  • HHFAN

Careful Dre before the industry get you on some MJ or Whitney shit and release it for you.

  • Dr. Dre

Oh shit ! Imma do it ! I can handle my business Here comes my release date : 12 31 2099 Detox aka Chronic 99 Hope yall wait for this !

  • eazy

a lot of them cats that were making hot records(albums,LPs,whatever you wanna call it) are now almost irrelavant. 1990s was a golden era but great things come to an end sometimes. A few shootings, a cardic arrest and time have almost cost the fans the industry and those in the profession to almost get lazy ( RIP- BIG,PAC,PUN,L,HALF A MIL

  • chronwell

A theory: Dre released the Chronic when I was a jr in high school, one year after the green trees hit the streets again. We was HIIIGGH! Now 18 years later he wants to stop the bud and the drank and maybe Dre's controllers dont want that.

  • nickrazor2000

Detox will never come out......no shit, tell me something i dont know. Detox is like world peace, it would be awesome to have but it will never happen.
