Jadakiss Explains Diggy Collaboration, Rick Ross Influence

Jadakiss talks about why working with Diggy is helping him and how he borrowed Rick Ross' mixtape formula.

When news of Jadakiss' collaboration with Diggy was unveiled, some were surprised. However, during a recent interview with BET, Jada explained why that collaboration was important for him and why he was happy to do it. In this interview, Kiss also shared that he was influenced by the manner in which Rick Ross released Rich Forever

Before speaking on Diggy and Ross, Jada talked about his longevity in the Rap game, saying he feels fortunate to still be relevant.

"There's a lot of one-hit wonders and a lot of come-and-go artists and even the labels give up on you after a couple years," he shared. "So, to stick around for 12-15 [years] and still be significantly relevant is a blessing from the most high."

This allowed Jada to speak on his work with Diggy. According to Kiss, the collaboration is one that he felt great to be a part of, noting that it could introduce him to a younger audience.

"I just did a single with Diggy Simmons so that's just showing you how I watch the music game real carefully and critique it extra critically...When Diggy called, he felt good to be able to get an artist like myself on the song. I also felt good that he wanted an artist like myself on that song."

As Kiss readies his Top 5 Dead or Alive album, he also said he would be releasing a mixtape soon, one that will borrow its formula from Rick Ross' Rich Forever

"It's really like an album, though but I'm not gonna put it in stores...I really got a lot of the format off [Rick Ross'] Rich Forever. I like how he did that. That's a real powerful mixtape that's gonna go down in time because it's like an album. He got big features on there. He got good records that's playing in rotation, playing in the club and it's just good music. So, I kind of borrowed that formula."

Ending the interview, Jada shared that he feels he has nothing to prove in regards to being Top 5 Dead or Alive and said many of the most critically acclaimed emcees have already expressed their respect for his skills. For more from the interview, check the video below.

jada was always nice but he hasn t dropped anything worth calling classic unless you re referring to one of his singles. as far as albums go he s dropped decent ones but far from classic. lyrically he s one of the most consistent and one of the best to do it but top 5 dead or alive get real. it s more to it then having bars and that s all he has. it s so many mc s out there with bars what seperates him from the rest except for longevity in the game. lloyd banks, cassidy, etc. they got bars too. they lack what all the other greats have. classic albums and charisma. and i love jada and he ll always be good for a hot verse. he s never dissappionted but before he exits the game to be classified in that rank he s talking bout at least leave us with a album we all know he s capable of making.

Interesting tidbit. Rev once gave his spiritual mentor a $325,000 Phantom. No way though he could pick up the phone and pursuade a rapper to do a favor for his kid, "off the books". Try and interpret that crack troll.

  • Anonymous

Schwarz - Ok crack baby, I'll make this short. Rev knows people. He can make a call and probably get just about anybody to care about his sons lukewarm songs. Cohen and Liles have nada to do with this. You think two grown ass men are waiting in an office for Diggy to call and ask for his favorite rapper lol Even funnier is your assumption that Rev gives Diggy Jada's number and says call him. Jada probably did it as a favor for Rev, but it doesn't even matter who compensated what. Just the fact your life is so pathetic that you took time to respond and act like you defeated an opinion makes me seriously wonder how many recreational drugs your parents were doing during those 9 months you were supposedly forming.

  • Nico 3

Rev paid Just Blaze to create a beat for his older son. With his connections, do you really think Jada's collabo was merely the label's idea? I know you're dumb, but I can only carry you so far before I have to bury you.

    • Anonymous

Welp! He got you man. Next time don't be so sure of something because of what you saw on television. Although you called me dumb, you made an ass of yourself by ASSuming you knew what goes on in someone else's home and family business.

    • SCHWARZ

"do you really think Jada's collabo was merely the label's idea?" "Joining Cohen at Warner are his former co-workers at Island Def Jam, Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald" +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ U BURIED YO'SELF! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    • SCHWARZ

U DONE WENT FROM RUN PAID HIM, TO RUN MADE A CALL, TO "I SAW WHAT HE DID WITH JOJO ON TV". NAW HO' HOW U KNO' RUN GAVE 'KISS A CHECK AND NOT WARNER BROS? WHAT'S THE ROYALTY RATE RUN GAVE 'KISS PER ALBUM SOLD? U SUCH A FCUKBOI SUPREME THAT U OVERLOOKED LYOR COHEN & KEVIN LILES (former Def Jam workers) ARE @ WARNER, U KNOW FOR A FACT RUN CUT A CHECK. HOW U KNO' THEY DIDN'T GIVE DIGGY JADAKISS' NUMBER? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Nico 3

Anon - Rev made the call. Probably convinced the label to cut a nice check. It's all the same.

    • Anonymous

Oh, you state Run made a call like you know this, then proceed with "probably" and we should believe your assessment. I understand, flip it any type of way to make the jibberish you say to be correct.

  • jg

how do these guys make money off mixtapes they dont put in stores?

  • mgruppe.com

why people hatin on Diggy? I listened to his first mixtape and liked the freshness. He dont rap about pussy, guns, drugs, etc. like other motherfuckers his age. ts just easy listening hip-hop. Jadakiss is smart because he can reach out to young folks who actually dont know him. Diggy probably needs the street credibility. Not a bad idea if they dont fuck up on the right concepts for the music.

Artist who sale at least gold are considered relevant. Kiss can't go gold anymore, so he needs to chill on that relevant talk.......lol

    • Anonymous

Says who, you? When you been relevant in the rap game? Since MySpace? Lyor Cohen and Edgar Bronfman Jr got you on speed dial? Sha Money XL ask you who's relevant? WHERE'S YOUR GOLD PLAQUE? STFU AND IT'S "SELL", not "SALE"

  • kevin smith

    • Anonymous

Kiss aint even Top 25 dead or alive #RealSh!t

  • Nico 3

The check Diggy's daddy cut for Jada was the only reason he jumped on that album. Jada is lyrically easily in the top 10-15, but I think he needs to be a little more choosy with some of his associations.

  • be0

all due respect to Jada he's not even close to being a top5,top10 and maybe even down to top20. He never sold major records, had 1 classic solo project dat i can remember and has always been a street rapper only..He can spit tho but top5 never

  • YESSIR

UM DID SOMEBODY TEL ME JADA IS TOP 5? THIS HAS TO BE A JOKE WHAT IS JADA TOP 5 AT ?

    • Anonymous

Jada been top 5 yessir the nigga got bars. And to say wayne killed jada lol him and drake got sonned on c4. As a matter of fact styles p would son them niggas too. Wayne with his third grade punchlines ain't even in comparison with puncline beast like jada, Lloyd banks or cassidy. There's a difference between a fan and a dickrider. And yessir you're a dickrider.

  • Joe

Jada isn't even top 20, get the fuck outta here with that lame shit. I can name 50 rappers alive better then him.

Man i'm sick of all these broke legends sucking dick. keep it real like DMX Their fanbase are adults now and have grown up and moved on and now their trying to tap into the younger generation by teaming up with whoevers hot.

    • Jack Compton

DMX and MGK collab? Not keeping it real.

    • dddg

True but at the same time look at it from the other side of the coin, where are the adult fans? Let's keep it 100 it's these kids and the females that buys records these days compared to the 90's. That's why we have so much bs in the game and why we keep hearing dumb shit like "old ass rappers" all the time. Why is it that the so called adult fanbase doesn't support? The truth is that alot of people be on that phony "im too grown for hip-hop now" when they hit a certain age which they shouldn't have to feel, and it makes them no support quality artists.

  • YESSIR
