Swizz Beatz Explains Plans To Bring K-Pop To America

In the wake of his international deal, Swizz Beatz says that he hopes to migrate culture from Korea to America.

Swizz Beatz recently announced a partnership with ON-Media to bring K-pop to America, a move intended to “migrate cultures.” During an interview with The FADER, Swizzy explained that artists like Kanye West and will.i.am have collaborated with Korean pop artists, but that he wants to build a lane for them to break through in the U.S.

“I’m not trying to just do a feature. I’m really trying to migrate culture,” he explains. “I don’t have to produce everything, I don’t have to rap on everything. I want to set up tour and TV shows and just have a super creative outlet for people to express themselves. We need to start bridging those gaps, and thinking globally is the way to go.”

The rapper/producer said that in order to integrate K-pop into American music, he plans on pairing artists from both countries. His hope is to end up with Chris Brown on a song with Big Bang, or Nicki Minaj on a track with 2NE1.

“Bridging the gaps with collaborations can be the start of a global phenomenon. We’ve got this group called Big Bang, they dropped a song called 'Blue,' and I’m like, everybody should know about that,” he continued. “So how do you keep communication going? When you’re a big artist in the states, they roll out the red carpets for you, and I don’t feel that love for artists from other countries when they come here. I’m like, wait a minute, that’s not fair. Why can’t they get some respect? So my thing is to team up a Big Bang with a Chris Brown, somebody like that. Team up 2NE1 with Nicki Minaj or Rihanna. You take an international hit and make it even more international, even more familiar. Bridge that gap.”

You know... I'd argue against the negative comments here, but I think Big Bang's new album speaks for itself. I'm actually shocked, I totally expected the comments to be the opposite; filled with butthurt K-pop fangirls who think there's something impure about K-pop acts collaborating with Western acts. I was about to come here and say "y'all better be glad someone from the West even wants to give these guys a chance, because most people in the West won't." Instead, I see a bunch of comments proving my point. Lmao. But this is exactly the reason I hate the "K-pop" label; because it groups all the acts together, when that's ridiculous. Tablo is nothing like Super Junior who is nothing like Kara who is nothing like Infinite. And I think Big Bang are a grade A group, they have in-house (withing the group, not the label) writers and producers and make quality music that could do well in the States if they weren't Asian. But lol nah they're "K-pop" so it automatically sucks. That's alright, though, it's not exactly like K-pop artists need 26 year old American male fans. They already have extreme fanbases that are only growing everything (especially Big Bang, who are killing it with the Alive album, and already have their world tour planned). Oops, so much for them sucking, I guess I'll be right in there sucking with them when they stop in New York.

All of these comments are so negative. "Fuck kpop"? What do you even know about it?

      U win, groupie bitch

Lol, your homophobia doesn't impress me, and gay or not, G-Dragon is pretty genius. He can suck as much dick as he wants as long as he keeps making good music. And it's pretty hilarious you present "murder and marijuana" as a negative on a hip-hop site. Just let me pull out all my hip-hop albums from the past 20 years, and see how many times those two subjects are mentioned. And sure, I'll ride 3 of their dicks, I don't really care, but you can have the other two, since you seem to be obsessed with homosexuality. Since you even know about Daesung and GD's incidents, and presenting them so negatively, I'm just gonna go ahead and assume you're not even a regular poster on this site and are just a Big Bang anti. It's boring, now, move on. No one cares about their incidents, clearly. Check their chart positions. Homophobic and sexist. Girls can have opinions, too, and mine is that they're pretty damn awesome. Musically. Trust me, I don't like music based on the face of the people. I like other K-pop artists for their looks, and don't listen to their music at all because it sucks. But I didn't even like Big Bang at all until I heard G-Dragon's solo album in 2009. Men and boys always think their opinion is more golden than girls, but I think it's more limited. Guys are more likely to see words like "pop" or "boy band" and write something off. But BIG BANG, is called a boy band by default, because they're not what you're thinking of when you hear "boy band". But I don't expect.. any of you forward thinking musical geniuses to give it a chance or try to find out. It's "K-pop" and it's a "boy band" so it sucks, and I'm a girl, so my opinion doesn't matter. Okay. I get that. But the truth is, you could translate their songs to English and give them to one of the artists you like, and you would like their music, too. G-Dragon has some misses, but as a producer and writer, he's pretty damn good. (And as his fan, honestly, I'm pretty damn sure he's gay or at least bisexual, and IDGAF because it doesn't matter. And a good half of his female fans feel the same way. And don't care. So... the point behind you calling him gay is...?)

U sayin' u dickridin' Big Bang's dick, right? Ay go korean massmedia and what had happened Dat ugly ass named Daesung killed a man and covered by car accident so he didn't go to jail Dat homo ass named GD smoked kush but he was found wit dat and he acted like bitch movin' He jus denied dat like child who denied his acts wit porn on computa screen when his mother walked into his roop

    • Rae

You know HunddRedd, you may be right about some K-pop acts, just like some American acts, but when you're talking about Big Bang, they pretty much write all of their lyrics, and the two rappers, GD & TOP, definitely write all of their own raps, so, I guess you don't know as much as you thought you did, huh.

    • HunddRedd

Yeah i kno i kno i kno I heard of all of em from 90's to 10's but nah... it's jus all bout love, love, love and love Are they loveless asses? And as u kno, their hip hop music rappers really cant rap and even dont kno write their lyrics Ay bitch , u maybe kpop groupie , huh? U bitches always look their appearance without what really songs' meanings

  • Hoodgrown

Why bring THAT shit over. They don't even respect your black ass. I saw an article 2 years ago about some of them appearing in black face.. and then this article pops up... http://newsone.com/entertainment/brettjohnson35/k-pop-artists-blackface/ Black folks stay supporting those who don't give a fuck about us. SMH

    • zeairr

I find this comment funny. How do you expect them to "respect" something they dont know anything about? I they're brought over here through people like swizz, they might learn a thing or two. But no matter what i say about it, you'll never find it funny like i do. Forget I said anything.

  • Mr Flamboyant

What about all the undiscovered talent here in the U.S. So you gotta go else where to make a buck. Stop blocking and being selective about what gets played on radio, new material that gets put on these blog sites, and other outlets. Plenty of Fresh talent in all genres here in the U.S. Thes cats is so far gone off in thier own world once they reach elite status they start to flip out and turn thier back. Gtfoh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Burmy

That's right...just let real hip-hop (in particular your Ruff Ryders) die while you bring these wack other genres to the USA. If he's not a SELLOUT, I don't know what one is...
