Birdman Hopes To Add Gospel, Country And More R&B To Cash Money Roster

After being included on Billboard magazine's annual "Power 100 List," Birdman says he wants to diversify the YMCMB roster and include other genres.

When Billboard magazine put together their annual “Power 100 List,” Hip Hop took a few prominent positions in the form of Jay-Z (listed with wife Beyonce) and “Birdman” (listed with co-founder/co-CEO Ronald “Slim” Williams). Jay-Z and Beyonce took the highest spot of any Hip Hop/R&B contributors by being listed together at the number 13 slot. And Brian and Ronald Williams weren’t far behind at the number 25 spot.

The Williams Brothers have been responsible for selling over 75 million records since signing a $30 million pressing and distribution deal with Universal back in 1998. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Drake, DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj all record under either the Cash Money or YMCMB umbrella. The pair have also negotiated book deals and a YMCMB debit card all while eyeing a bigger haul.

“We dominate Rap, but we need to dominate R&B,” Birdman told Billboard. “We need to dominate Pop, Gospel, Country—we’re a brand so we should be able to put out all these types of music. We just got to keep grinding.”

Meanwhile, Jay-Z and Beyonce produced the youngest person to appear on the pop charts, as their daughter Blue Ivy Carter is listed as a performer on the Pharrell produced track, “Glory.” As an artist, Beyonce has moved over 29 million units both as a soloist and a member of Destiny’s Child. On the business side of things, Mrs. Carter has endorsement deals with L’Oreal, Target and her own House of Dereon imprint. And Jay-Z adds 12 number one albums 28 million albums sold and his own deals with Roc-a-wear, Roc Nation, HP and other companies.

The full Power 100 issue, which is on news stands now, also includes Lyor Cohen, Antonio L.A. Reid and others.

yeah every lable has its run...ymcm is smart because this is there second coming...they had they run with the juve and now its wayne...but the big mistake they are making is that they are making them selves into jokes....look at what wayne is doing and how drake is running scared and how nikki is failing with her singles....somthing tells me that they are going to fall off pretty soon....my question is whos next....i hope to god its good music, roc nation or shady 2.0 that would be great for hiphop

  • HUH?

YMCMB = Young Men Chasing Male Butts

  • It's almost over

Cash Money's run is almost up. They're making the same mistakes and misteps that Death Row, Bad Boy, Def Jam, Rocafella, Murder Inc., Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit and countless others have made. Just stick with you're genre, and stop signing acts that no one cares about anymore, i.e. Busta and Mystikal.

Murder Inc got snitched on and set up by Curtis Jackson!!! The feds told BET & MTV in you fuck with them then you can go to jail with them too!!!!

Nobody stays on top forever. Remember, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

what mistakes have they made? Each and everyone person on the roster has a fanbase. Granted some are bigger than others but thats besides the point. And each one of those labels made different mistakes. Deathrow: Suge was nothing but trouble. Plain and simple. Deathrow fell because Pac passed an all of the other stars left. Rocafella: Jay and Dame split. Once that happened it was the domino affect. Murder Inc: Their mistake was letting Ja take his attention away from the hit songs he was making and go at 50 and G unit. 50cent was the new hot thing and people were gravitating from it and saying fuck Murder Inc. Bad Boy: Big Passed and all their other stars slowly started leaving one after another. Def Jam: They lost touch with hip hop. Plain and simple. Their hasnt been a significant leader that really knew what they were doing in years. Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit: Aftermath was never this monster of a label to begin with. Dre was the boss and Eminem was/is the money train. Shady was never really huge as well. d12 was only huge cus of Em. 50 was the main attraction. Granted G-Unit was the label that had a lot of fuck ups. 50 thought they would be on top forever. Beefing with damn near everyone for the beginning of your career wont do you any favors. On top of that inner problems messed things up as well as bad work ethic. Banks got lazy. Buck thought he had money like 50. Yayo thinks hes bigger than he really his etc etc. In short dont group all of the labels that are no long on top together because each one had its run and each one made its own mistakes. Besides, people been sayin Cash Moneys run is almost up since Juvie left and theyre still on top. They dont put out the best product but that doesnt stop facts that theyre still on top.

YALL ALREADY GOT THE R&B MARKET WITH THAT NIGGER DRAKE, HE GOT R&B HITS LIKE FOUND YOUR LOVE AND MARVINS ROOM, REMEMBER BIRDSHIT??? AND YALL ALREADY GOT A POP STAR IN NIKKI MINAJ, JUST LISTEN TO SUPERBASS AND THAT NEW MARILYIN MONROE PIECE OF POP SHIT MUSIC!!! I WOULD LOVE TO LICK HER ANUS THOUGH!!!

  • BlazeDatIshUp

Actually Mannie Fresh is responsible for selling a lot of those records, cuz he did production from front to back for all of their albums when he was there. The reason that crap music label sells not is because of these gullible kids who buy into some fake gangsta, tight jean wearing image. This wack muthafucka needs to stay in his lane and not corrupt other genres of music like he's doing to rap.

History has a tendency of repeating itself. YMCMB might be big now, but in about 5-10 years, they'll suffer the same fate as Death Row and No Limit, or like Bad Boy, where the artists' careers gets exploited and goes nowhere. Wayne will retire (he said that once on a radio interview, but that could be a lie) and all of the artists at YMCMB will either move to another label or their careers go nowhere.
