Mobb Deep To Release Deluxe Edition Of "Black Cocaine" Through Indie Retailers

UPDATE: More than just the originally-thought 24 hours, Havoc and Prodigy support dedicated indie record store vendors and appease patient fans with two bonus tracks on physical "Black Cocaine."

Queens, New York duo Mobb Deep will release their first group project in six years, Black Cocaine on November 22. Prodigy and Havoc announced this morning that the self-released EP will come in two versions. The pair will release a five-song digital version of the project.

In addition, Mobb Deep has opted to support independent retailers by providing a limited-edition seven-song version of Black Cocaine as well. This will only be available only on starting November 25, otherwise known as "Black Friday." “We wanted to give something to the fans that have been waiting for new Mobb Deep music ” says Prodigy.  “This limited edition EP is a collectors’ item for die hard Mobb Deep fans” adds Havoc.

HipHopDX originally printed that the Black Cocaine: Deluxe Edition would only be available for 24 hours. That has subsequently been corrected after spokespeople for Mobb Deep clarified.

7 songs? That's fucking sad. Pony up the money and secure some real studio time. At this point in their career, they should be able to do better than this. Havoc has money.

THE MOBB HAVE THERE OWN STUDIO (INFAMOUS STUDIOS) IN QUEENS SO THEY DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STUDIO TIME! AND ITS AN EP NOT AN LP THATS WHY IT HAS ONLY 7 SONGS, THEIR REAL ALBUM DROPS FEBRUARY 2012!! GET UR FACTS STRAIGHT HOMIE!

  • Yup

Nice! I definitely support independent retailers, and for crying out loud, this is a good look as opposed to having to go to a major retail store with no copies! Independent retailers are the last hope in finding rare cd's and are pretty much jeopardized when artists decide to release deluxe editions only to major stores. Much props to the Mobb on this decision. A guaranteed copy and money into the local hip hop store is great in my books!

And Tru Life didnt do shit to Prodigy either, just robbed a bunch of his friends at gun point Saigon & Keith Murray the only names on your list who ever laid hands on P, who for the record is 5'7" and suffers from a disease, lol, Doesnt give them any stripes in my book

If you were a true MOBB fan u wouldnt even bother putting their G-unit releases in there. in the 90's youngin Mobb Deep ran this along with Wu,Nas,DMx Pac back then was mainstream not to say he was not ill but it was after his death he got the most respect.

Can't speak for other markets outside mine, but not hearing any songs on the radio. Won't this be the first time they dropped an album with no single, what will sales be like?

    • Big Dan

Anonymous: STF with that sales bs. what are you, jimmy iovine? First of all, it was concern from a fan, not a dis, but obviously, reading comprehension is not your steez and I'm sure Mobb Deep does not want to come out and sell 200,000 units and make like $50,000 of their album regardless of what you think.

Real hip hop like this deserve support and sales, but nevertheless you can't front on quality music forever
