Wale's "Ambition" Predicted To Make Close To 200K In First Week Sales

With only one day of full sales, Wale is predicted to sell 190K units of his sophomore effort "Ambition," trailing behind Justin Bieber's holiday album, "Mistletoe."

It has been almost two years since Wale dropped his debut album Attention Deficit. Although the album received positive reviews, the young D.C. rapper felt that Interscope, his label at the time, did not do enough to push sales

With a surprise move to Warner Brothers' Maybach Music Group and a team behind him led by Rick Ross, Wale's sophomore album, Ambition, is looking to be a number one contender on the Billboard charts. With only one full day of sales, Ambition, already dominating the iTunes Hip Hop charts, is predicted to sell between 170-190K units, putting him behind Justin Bieber's holiday album, Mistletoe which is trending towards 200-225K.

Solid figures will be released next Tuesday.

Hey, he is getting what he desired: better sales. And yes, Ambition is actually a dope album. His lyrics are on point. The production is atypical for him, but typical of MMG. Its dope. Some of the sappier/pop songs could have been left off. However, it works as an album. Glad he is getting it in.

congrats wale wale aight but i cant wait 4 meek to drop that real fire

  • Nico 3

Most people don't look for albums on the first day anyway. I bet the final numbers aren't going to look great, but imagine the alternative. Being on E1 and selling 15,000. He's in a good spot right now.

im proud of my nigga, liked the old one and ill buy this one too.......people gotta stop hatin, niggas is jealous, ambition is way better than the carter4

Anything less than 200k in your first week is a flop dumb ass bitch. YMCMB + Roc Nation bitches.

  • Lsn22s

Good for him, he definitely deserves a win after his first album didn't do it's numbers. Just saw him do a show this weekend in Boston actually, he rocked that shit!

  • TEXAS

    PEOPLE BUY HIS SHIT???

y'all would be surprised how many females like wale and probably bought the album. not saying it as a way to disrespect him but most of you saying you're surprised its selling are actually arrogant enough to think that just because your circle of ppl aren't feeling him, nobody else is

  • RR

Suuuuusssspect. Considering this album wasn't even available at Target on its release day and Best Buy didn't even have it displayed in it's new release section (you had to actually go to the "Wale" section) 200,000 would be EXTREMELY suspicious.

  • Nico 3

There definately seems to be a market for these kinds of albums now, so more power to him. It's those second week numbers that will tell how successful this album is.

  • Jim Ones

I dont get some of these sales...Most people I know don't know who Wale or J Cole are...How the fuck did they sell so much? Roc Nation must be buying their shit

Slaughterhouse is the illest most lyrical hip hop group right now, yelawolf is dope and coming up and eminem is in the top ten best of all time!! SHADY RECORDS!!!!

  • Jamel Jhuntdaprodigy Hunter

Ambition isn't classic by any means but I thought it was a pretty good album personally, and I bought a copy yesterday to support Wale. Dude's been grinding for the past 5 years, so he deserves this, I wish he'd outsell Bieber too lol, but the bottom line is he was right, he definitely did not do as bad as with Attentino Deficit, and he'll prolly go gold eventually, like Cole & Wiz, congrats!

  • Almar

Congrats to wale for shipping a hit record but in all seriousness the album is pretty weak, His Mixtapes are amazing but his LP's aren't very good besides maybe a few tracks from the two.

  • Anonymous

Ross bought the albums cuz wale only manged to sell 30k on is first album and that was way better.

  • Gregor Scott

How many times do I have to remind people of the following; Sales are counted by number shipped, not actual sales. If a store is selling out they order more copies during the first week and this order is added to the "first week sales". Buying copies of an album in bulk would be extremely expensive for the label to do. Wholesale price is about $5 (what they sell it to distributors for), who then sell onto stores for near $7 a unit. Anyone who thinks the label would go out and buy 100k copies doesn't appreciate the true loss in doing that. Downloaded the album and about to listen before deciding if it's worth paying for.

  • Eddy

Wow, was expecting around 50k in all honesty. MMG have done well to get these kind of sales out of Wale without any major hit. Hats off.

album from wale is bubble gum rap with a few decent songs

  • Menace

This site full of haters... Lebron James, Ochocinco , Wiz, J. Cole, Rick Ross and countless others told there followers to go out and get Wale's album so with promo he had already plus that 200k shouldn't be impossible to sell first week.. Hate is a female trait

Now on to one of the worst rappers ever in Wale:SMH:Where do i start? This man is PURE trash:Just a waste and don't give me that "go listen to this mixtape Jimmy, go listen to that mixtape Jimmy":News flash dummies, ALL MIXTAPES are dope:There are no restrictions:It's easy to make dope mixtapes:Hell, even E-40 and Soulja Boy can make great mixtapes:It's baby work:The question is, can you translate it to LP form and Wale can NOT:He's a bust:I really don't like guys who come up in the mixtape game spitting hardcore fire and then turn around & make Pop bubble gum LPs:I think it's disgraceful and a embarrassment to HipHop:Wale is a sell out:Seriously:He might just be the fastest sell out in musical history: I have not heard his new album and i have no intentions to listen to it:I dislike his topic:All this "respect females" stuff is played out:I'm tired of it:And i know he'll have 1 or 2 songs where he spits some dope lyrics but it's no longer believable at this point:The fact that people is accepting this sell out just further proves that the apocalypse is near:This man is wack: HipHop has become a joke:People actually think Wale, J.Cole, Tech N9ne, & Lupe are actually great rappers?Come on people get serious: Biggie & Big L are rollin' over in their graves at the people you guys call "lyricists":

this nigga must be a psychic speaking on behalf of the dead and shit. what else can you share with us from the otherside ?

    • ThoughtB4Action

Its disrepect to say that Biggie, Pac, or Big L would be rolling in their grave. Personally, I like some Wale songs, others to me are garbage. But I won't say that he is trash because he doesnt always appeal to me. The hip hop/rap game has changed a lot since Big, Pac, and L. Some artists try and build on what hip hop was back then, and fail. Some succeed. Some try and create their own material, and fail. Some succeed. But because you don't like how someone flows or his material doesn't mean they're trash. They're just not for you. I don't like Jay-Z. Never bought or bootlegged a Jay-Z album. But I won't say he's trash, just not for me. I listen to Drake, Phonte, T.I., Yelawolf, Kanye, Big KRIT, some of everything. But I wont say that a rapper that I cant listen to is trash. So just respect other people's opinion and keep degrading comments to yourself.

    • @PRINCEJIMMY80s

@Knowledge Why do you people always categorize listeners after just one post? You know nothing about me or what type of music i like: First you claim i like "east coast shoot em' up" music? Did you know i have T.I. [Southern] in my top 10 ALL TIME list? Then you claim i don't like positive rap when i also have Common is my top 10 all time list: I can listen to ALL kinds of rap music and enjoy myself:I have Drake is my top 5 rappers of today list and he isn't a gangster rapper:Wake up and stop being so judgmental:

U dnt have to rap about that negative lifestyle to be good or gain respect..go and actually listen to music and dont be a narrow-minded hiphop fan#smh

  • @PRINCEJIMMY80s

First off, before i speak truth on the washed up commercial trash that is Wale let me point out something very peculiar that i've noticed trending over the last 5 years: Albums sales are no longer the way they use to be:They use to move gradually throughout an entire calendar year:I remember when it was a success to sell 100k in your first week:That was like a big thing because everyone knew you'd be platinum before the year was out: [Depending on what month you released]No one really stopped counting sales til after 12 months of the release but now over the last 5 years, we've seen a new trend:We've seen the first week sales spike to record highs but the year totals go down so you know what that indicates? It's saying that most of your album sales are going to come in it's first 2-4 weeks: It's clear that if people are going to buy your album, it's going to be in the first few weeks:Game sold 100k in his first week and it's been well over 2 months and he's just now reaching 200k:You see Wayne selling 1 million in his first week and not even getting to 2x platinum:Album sales have changed:If your album is going to be bought, it's most likely going to be bought in the first 2 weeks: Of course there are exceptions like Eminem, Gaga, The Biebs, Kanye, and other established artists but for the most part, this is how it's going to be:

  • ThoughtB4Action

The album is good, but kinda a step down from the Eleven One Eleven Theory. But still, big ups to him for doing his thing. Its about how much money they make to them. J.Cole said in a song "Play the game or let the game play you. Or be that broke mothafucka that say he stayed true." But still wish he used some of his better songs like Varsity Blues, Barry Sanders, and Fuck You

  • Anonymous

wow after a day they predict the sales sounds fishy to me but hey props to him hopefully he gets a number 1 album for hip hop july: kendrick lamar august: jay-z and kanye west september: j cole november: wale & drake good way to close the year of hip hop in my opinion.

  • Anonymous

people crack me up man everytime somebody moves some units everybody starts screaming there buyin there on records why do you idiots think they make albums to sell them not to buy them there self lmao i mean we are talking about 170k-190k first week yes thats good numbers kinda what i expected from an artist with a buzz like wales not a million copies now that would be suspect i know when i got my copy at best buy i ask if the album was selling well and they said they restocked it once already so i know it is selling

    • Anonymous

Just using this as an example..but when GRODT dropped nobody had to ask the clerk if it was selling..YOU KNEW it was selling because all of your friends, classmates bought it as well..if u gotta ask the store clerk..that says a lot

  • Jay.R

Don't believe it. Nor do I believe Wayne sold as much as he did. . . . You get my point.

Man there is definitely alot of Wale haters on here. I'm not the biggest fan but I understand the move to MMG and Rick Ross because he gotta make that dough and if he was spittin the hardest shit and underground hip hop music, all of y'all wouldn't really support! It wouldn't be played on the radio. These people are trying to get on the radio people and there has to be middle ground! Its a hybrid time where artists are now playing the game with radio but subtly keeping it hip hop. If you want their good shit, download their mixtapes....

  • c red

haha dude sayin wale has no buzz man you on something his buzz is hudge he has been everywhere for months well ever sense signing to MMG there is nobody buyin records from there label he is ontop of itunes to he just has a hott record and a good buzz pluse his home town backs him

  • jr88

but if they are buying records it must be in wales contract just to hype him up and make him look popular and cool in hopes more kids will cop his album....

  • jr88

you dont have to have a hit single to sell records!!!!its a new music era!!!! there are other sources of getting music other than the radio.....thats good for wale....personally i think he is corney but with a solid fan base you can sell records.....he will tap out at 300 k.....

  • WTF

MAN THIS IS SOME CRAY SHIT. I think Wale is dope, but man this guy HAS no buzz, and hes gonna sell 200k the first week? SOUNDS LIKE ROSS WAS BUYING RECORDS OR SOMETHING. First Wayne has this abusrd first week, than J Cole and now Wale? SMH WHY CAN'T MOTHER FUCKERS LET THERE FANS DETERMINE THERE FIRST WEEK SALES, NOT THERE LABEL HEADS OR HOMIES GOING to BUY ALL THE COPIES.

you literally just created a paranoid fantasy in your head and are now basing all your beliefs and opinions off of them. where is your proof that the label bought this shit? you create a far fetched speculative angle and then proceed as if it has been confirmed? that is what crazy people and conspiricists do. what is wrong with people? you got some serious problems.

continuation - not saying u need a hit single to sale..but Beyonce has millions of fans, and she barely did 250k her first week..it just doesnt add up

    • Anonymous

Ok I was off on the numbers by 60k.. I wasn't manipulating..i was estimating..but u get the point..These numbers are highly unlikely

    • Anonymous

stop manipulating facts and twisting the truth to fit your theory. beyonce sold more than 310k first week. though I do feel as though you have a good argument either way.

    • Anonymous

beyonce did 310k first week. get your facts straight.

    • Anonymous

So if Beyonce, whos sold Millions of records worldwide..didn't have a hit single and only did 250k her first week..what is the probability of Wale..who barely has any sales worldwide to do tha same type of numbers as beyonce..cmon

    • Anonymous

50 cent has 5.2 million followers and only did 150k his first week on his last album..followers don't mean shit..please stop using twitter followers as means of ppls buzz..

    • Anonymous

Beyonce also didn't have a hit single before she dropped the album. She just announced it and dropped it a month later. Wale was millions of followers and his shows are crazy.. So..

  • Anonymous

Not to sound like a Im hatin I'm just keepin it real..ever since wayne did a "milli" wit carter 4 first week..everybody has been having these unusually high first week numbers..I just don't believe..Cole doesn't have a hit single, Wale doesn't have a hit single..but yet I'm supposed believe these dudes is doing 200k there first week..and his last album did 28k his first wk..I call BS on this one..if he did congrats tho

    • ThoughtB4Action

Agreed. J.Cole does have a lot of potential. He is signed with a good label that he could get some good coaching and influence from. If he fails, it would probably be of his own ignorance. But Wale is stuck in his ways, he doesn't really think he needs improvement, he just thinks he needs better promotion which is not the case. The true measure of their quality is something that will come with time. For J.Cole's debut with him doing most of the production, it was ok. I still see a lot of room for improvement. I just like some of Wale's song material. Can't really say I like his flow. Its ok. But it has already gotten old to me. But as mentioned earlier, only time will tell. The largest part to being a great (contrary to what people may think) is not being lyrical. Its about captivating the audience. So like I said earlier, I kinda agree with you.

    • Anonymous

I give you that. Is 200k possible, of course its possible. But Is it probable..in Wale, JCole's case..Ummm No. Not discrediting them as artists..though I personally not a fan of either. I credit guys like Em, Jay, Nas, Pac, Biggie, T.I. guys that are lyrical and can also create great albums and songs..not just lyrical dudes with no true star quality such as Wale or even a Cole. Cole has potential tho..I don't think Wale does.

    • ThoughtB4Action

Ok. I give you that. But you have to consider this. I am a fan of great music, so its ridiculous to even try and compare a Wale track to an Adele, Beyonce, Maroon 5, Foster The People, Gym Class Heroes, or even LMFAO on the Billboard charts. Even though he may try and appeal to a greater audience, he sometimes doesn't. Neither does J.Cole who pulls a small bit from Jay-Z's audience. But from numerous mixtapes with very exceptional content, I can see fans that have been waiting going to buy over 100k copies first week. Now 200k does sound pretty steep, but its possible.

    • Get YOUR facts straight

matter fact..neither one of those two singles even charted on billboard..those to charts I posted were other lowergrade charts..and they still didn't chart high..do ur research homie..

    • Anonymous

No..Get YOUR facts straight before you tell somebody else to get theres straight! I said Top 10 single on billboard. "That Way" peaked at 43! and Lotus Flower Bomb peaked at 23 on the US rap chart..Here s your proof. http://acharts.us/song/64684 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wale_discography

    • get ur facts straight

Wale ft Jeremih & Rick Ross, "That Way" and "Lotus Flower Bomb" are both radio singles for Wale..He also recorded a video for MTV called "Bait"

    • Anonymous

you make a point..sales don't dictate how good an album is..but i didn't say they don't have any singles leading up to there albums..i said they didn't have any "hit singles" BET or MTV doesn't make a song a hit..Where the single charts makes it a hit. Can you name a top 10 billboard single from any one of these rappers..until some body can name one..i stand behind my point that these first week numbers are bogus..good or bad album..I haven't heard it yet..but I just don't like to be lied to to get me to buy an album

    • ThoughtB4Action

      J. Cole's Cant Get Enough has been at or around the top of BET, MTV and Fuse's countdown for weeks, even though I think that is one of his weaker songs, and Wale's Eleven One Eleven Theory and previous mixtapes have been hyping this album up for a while. So saying these dudes didn't have any hits or mixtapes leading to their sales is crazy. I don't look at, nor do I even care about how many units an album moves. If you like an artist, go buy the album. If you don't, oh well. If their own labels bought the albums, oh well. Thats not gonna make me dislike or like it any more.

    • Anonymous

I mean these guys do mad shows, drop mixtapes, and Wale I know has 1.2 million followers on Twitter.. So its possible.

"MAYCRAP MUSIC" lol wow that was genuinely stupid like seriously amongst the names like "Lil Gayne", "KanGaye West", "Gayme", "Gay-Z" (that's right even Nas doesn't get a pass for that), "A. Hole", "Coochi Lame", "Flake" & "Walame". Like seriously can we stop with this name calling bullshit, no one thinks your funny and they get worse & worse by the second. If you don't like an artist, fine, but please quit it with the stupid fuckin names.
