Masta Ace & MF DOOM "MA DOOM: Son Of Yvonne" Album Stream

UPDATE #4: After almost a year of anticipation, Masta Ace's latest solo work with DOOM beats arrives.

On Wednesday September 14, Brooklyn, New York emcee Masta Ace confirmed, via Twitter, that his collaboration album with MF DOOM is complete. Ace noted that he "handed in" the project, although label and release date information is still pending.

The project is said to be called MA DOOM: Son of Yvonne, playing off of both veteran emcees' names. Earlier this year, reports indicated that the collaboration features productions from DOOM and rhymes from Ace, as the pair leaked "PBS," which reportedly will not be included on the album.

On Monday, Masta Ace also confirmed an upcoming 10th anniversary release of Disposable Arts, featuring new recordings of songs from the album with a live band. That project, said to be released through Fat Beats Records, has yet to be given a release date.

Previously, Masta Ace released a collaborative effort with Edo G (2009's Arts & Entertainment), while DOOM has produced albums by John Robinson and MF Grimm.

ACE AND DOOM. easily two of the greatest of all time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKXZiezvF5w&feature=context-cha

Real good album as expected. Having skimmed through a bunch of these comments, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of them are being posted by the same person who seems to have some inexplicable vendetta against Ace... A bunch of comments supposedly by different people restate the same couple of points, it comes across like someone has some sort of anti-Ace agenda, for what reason I cannot even begin to fathom... Ace is one of the very best emcees to ever live, and his discography features several of the greatest albums in hip hop history, people trying to front on him are just shining a huge spotlight on their own ignorance. Again, great album.

  • Mike

Clearly most of you didn't listen to this in full. 1. There is infact a MF Doom verse on this (despite the dated tweet y'all seem to reference in the resurfacing of this old ass article). 2. It's dope ass verse 3. Doom references ace specifically a bunch of times in said verse. 4. the song is track #8 and its titled "Think I Am" 5. Listen to shyt before you judge it.

  • BafflerMeal

It's been out since early June on iTunes.

  • Mike

Wow, you guys are fucking negative. Doom is actually on the album, on the track with Big Daddy Kane "Doom doesn't want to fuck with him"? He just gave him beats for his whole album and did a verse, but nah he doesn't want to be associated with him. Props to Ace for rocking it since the Symphony.

"Greatest rapper/rap lyricist ever" No. That would be Drake.

This nigga Ace is 98 years old and still rapping. He ain't got talent no more, it's time for him to retire.

    • Fuck Brooklyn

^^^^^^ Quit crying and recognize Masta Ace aint't shit.

    • TIERS MONDE

i dont understand peeps when they say rappers reach a certain age and they say they should retire....do you see any other genre of music artists retiring at 40? no you dont...its called making music....at this point, i dont mind hearing a 40 year old compared to a dumbass 20 year old...

    • IDK

No, Masta Ace is 45 years old, not 98.

    • Mortis

      how does Drake's dick taste?

    • Anonymous

Retire? There's a carburetor that needs to be delivered to Canarsie NOW, nigga can't retire!!

  • Anonymous

"What else is he gonna do?" For starters go back to the Born to Roll style of music that gave this dude his fifteen minutes to begin with.

    • Anonymous

Ace is a mediocrity running on the fumes, only thing he should 'go back' to is school and learn a trade since his ass hurts from driving all day.

  • bleh

Greatest rapper/rap lyricist ever. at least in my humble opinion

  • Count Melancholy

doom aint fucking with him i guess. shit is a shame. i seen masta ace at a show one time, the dude was begging people to buy merch. listen to his songs, at least 7 songs on every album is like him begging people to buy albums. shit is embarrassing. i can see why doom wouldn't want to be associated with him. the nigga got no dignity.

    • Anonymous

EXACTLY. On the one hand, Ace gets semi-credit for having a 'concept' but 1000%, when your only sustained concept is... ... COMPLAINING, maybe it's time to load another UPS truck, B. Someday you might make it to driver!

So it's a fuckng mixtape with Doom beats? Big deal, you can do the same thing in your bedroom. Masta Ace is usually nice for HALF an album but he's incapable of keeping it together front to back. Better than mediocrity, way less than genius, good thing he has a job delivering car parts.

  • Anonymous

Masta Ace is alot like O.C. to me. He stays around, so props to him for that, but potential wise, he never seems to hack it. Born to Roll was his one big hit which should have kept him going longer.

  • Anonymous

a doom verse would have spoilt the album.not a good combo. but doom on the beats wil be real ill.hopin to cop this

    • bleh

I don't think that was the point he was trying to make. BTW people like DOOM because he raps some crazy, introspective concepts, albeit he has a diffrent style of rapping than any other emcee, but he is also more creative, intelligent and complex, which is why the rap and hip hop audience at large don't approve of him... it's also why he's the only rapper I have any respect left for. I'd argue that if he died after his food album, folks would be calling him the "john lennon" of hip hop.

    • Anonymous

agree. Doom is terrible on the mic. I cant understand how people enjoy him.

  • Anonymous

amazing rhymes over terrible clunky beats. I'd prefer almost any underground producer then doom. Marco Polo, Jake One etc...

  • Mr Flamboyant

Knew this what this ultimately was going to be. Kind of disappointing but not really cause it was expected. Still should be dope though cause it's Masta Ace. Can we get Madvillainy 2 and Swift and Changeable? Seriously.

  • Anonymous

masta ace by far the most underrated mc to ever touch the mic

  • Pump Pump

makes me wanna hit that ass up wit tha dog pound

  • LOL @ these comments

LOL @ these comments: Do you people know DOOM and his group KMD were a conscious group that had there album cover banned and album blacklisted because of the messages they were speaking about? So much for his ethics huh? LOL! Posted2011-09-17T22:57:02-05:00

  • Charlie Kush

MF Doom is actually a wack rapper. His rhymes don't make sense. Hes only good for the beats.

  • Anonymous

I ONLY hope the beats are not recycled Special Herbs beats! Everytime Doom contributes a beat(s) to an album (ahem, More Fish etc) it's always the old beats finally put to use. Same with his last album. I'm ready for FRESH new Doom beats...I'll be heated if there's more than 1 recycled old beat on this gem...

    • AxeMurder

Lol this was 10 months ago so prepare to be heated! Every single DOOM beat is recycled, this nigga is lazy as fukc he cant make 10 new beats for Ace?

  • Anonymous

a little bit pissed doom isnt spittin on this, but its still gonna be tight

They should of both spit over a better producer imo..madlib or his brother would been great.

    • e

this bitch Longbranch is pissing me off

    • Longbranch Pennywhistle

I personally really like DOOM's production he's really creative in the way he samples which I like but he is definitely an acquired taste. Some beats are just straight dope like Lemon Grass/Krazy World and some of his smoother beats.

    • Anonymous

DOOM is a dope producer, but yea a Masta Ace/Oh No jawn would def be worth copping

  • GotDam

Lovin this...go Ace. Still I gotta ask if anybody remembers the line "Matter fact fuck fatbeats for doin the wax"?

    • SG

funniest shit man...was thinkin the same thing...let alone on a track from the same album being re-released on aforementioned label...y'all just sound like a couple a high whities

  • Anonymous

MF Doom the illest period. If you love that raw shit how it supposed to be with the sick rhymes and the bangin beats check the hardest mixtape out, "Hard Life Manual" by Classic The Legend, free download here classicthelegend.bandcamp.com

  • IDK

oh shit, Masta Ace partnering up with MF DOOM?? i wonder how is this gonna sound and work out. it's kinda hard to picture well-known hip-hop artists rapping over MF DOOM's beats besides Ghostface Killah, but let's see if Masta Ace can be another perfect example :)

  • Chicasal

This seems to good to be true, I can't wait to hear this shit!!!!

  • Anonymous

Want that Ghostface/MF DOOM to come out too!

  • Ghost of Hip-hop past

    DOOM is the Illest ever.

  • Jeremy ThequietGuy Orr

this is great news for Hip-Hop! I actually wished Doom would had a verse or two but Ace will def.hold down the rhyming thing.

  • Anonymous

Good, Ace is doin the rhyming, lol, sorry ya'll I just dont like Doom on the Mic, never did, but his production is undeniable, Kinda like that dude Necro to me, Just stick to beats and steer clear of the Microphone

    • Longbranch Pennywhistle

      @Bowski Acquired taste no homo?

    • Anonymous

Lol anyone that thinks dooms production is better then his lyrics is on crack..that wasnt true on operation doomsday and those were his best beats...love doom but if ur gonna say he isnt better over a dilla or madlib beat then his own ur nuts..id rather see madlib handle the whole project and doom\ace go in

    • Bowski

@ Anon I understand what you're saying, Doom is like an "acquired" taste type mc (no homo). His style is unorthodox but that's what makes him dope to me. I do however see your point bro...

    • Anonymous

To each his own ya'll, I was just stating my opinion, I dont like the guy on the Mic, rather hear other rappers on his beats An opinion cant be wrong, and I stand by my opinion, you disagree, feel free to quote dudes shit all day, its not that deep

    • Ghost of Hip-Hop Past

Steer clear of the mic?? You outta line son.

    • Anonymous

DOOM crazy lyrically, Can't compare him to necro dog. Necro is mad two dimensional, DOOM is futuristic as fuck!! Necro only talks about fucking dead bodies, DOOM's all over the place

  • Anonymous

People need a new DOOM album. One of the last remaining creative masterminds.

  • A.S.

So is it Ace rapping over Special Herbs then?

    • Longbranch Pennywhistle

Why are people tripping about Special Herbs beats? I mean the man puts out a shitload of instrumental work over the years and then he actually decides to use them and you guys get pissed? Ungrateful. Should he have just wasted those beats or never released them for us?

    • Jordan Laine

EddieMurrrphy, I'm with ya, I really hope it's fresh beats.

    • EddieMurrrphy

jjsteez you are a dumb faggot dude. doom will not rap on this, read the article retard. and i know exactly where these cats are goin with the special herbs shit every doom fan should know what that is referencing. beats on many of his albums, even a good chunk of his solo comeback, reuses some of those old special herb beats. he at least will choose ones he hasnt rapped on before but still it is quite gay. you bop your head for a second then its like wait a minute, i heard this shit before. when i forst heard that mf grimm album the downfall of ibliys. i was so pissed i had ever heard any of those special herbs beats. i really wish i had never bought it/ heard any of those beats. it stays killing album listening experiences.

    • jjsteez33

...what do you mean "exactly" and "thats lame." first of all....what makes you say that. doom is rapper....therefore he will rap on this collab. doom is a producer, therefore he will have new beats for the album like always. pretty sick if you ask me...since he hasn't come out with something fresh in a minute. what a dumb comment...special herbs. idk where you were goin with that

    • Anonymous

      Exactly, that's lame.

  • Crystal

Masta Ace is my favorite MC, and I don't quite understand why he doesn't get the cred he deserves. Disposable Arts and A Long Hot Summer is fantastic albums, with excellent storytelling. Masta Ace over Doom beats? Yes, please.

  • Bowski

Glad to see Ace is on his grind now more than I can ever remember, I'm definitely picking up all these projects he's involved in. I'm a huge fan of his music, & Ace has always been a cool dude everytime I met him in person too.

  • F. Rap

No diss to Doom but I'm glad to read it'll be Ace on the rhymes & Doom on production !

    • Longbranch Pennywhistle

@Kung Fu He released 6 full length studio albums in 16 months (Take Me To Your Leader, Vaudville Villain, Madvillainy, Venomous Villain, MM FOOD and The Mouse & The Mask) thats a new LP every 2 and a half months plus instrumental work. How is that a bad workrate?

    • LOL @ these comments

Who said I was a genius besides you? LOL! So when has DOOM embraced endorsements besides Adult Swim, when that's nothing but royalty investments! DO YOU REALLY KNOW IF THAT'S DOOM, OR ARE YOU LISTENING TO WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE IS SAYING?

    • Kung-Fu

Yes LOL @ you're not a genius I've heard of kmd . Making a pro black album does not mean you can't change you're style of thinking, ethics(money endorsments fame etc) and ripping concert attendees off with fake shows. Groups like Brand Nubian, De La and Tribe went through similar shit. Just look at Q Tip for goodness sake!

    • LOL @ these comments

Do you people know DOOM and his group KMD were a conscious group that had there album cover banned and album blacklisted because of the messages they were speaking about? So much for his ethics huh? LOL!

    • Anonymous

Yall are stupid and dont get the guy..hes a super motherfuckin villain god damn it. Ddfinition of a super villain a killer who loves children one skilled in destruction as well as building.

    • chronwell

Co signing Kung Fu and EddieMurrrphy! Doom dont seem like a standup guy. In his lyrics he admits hes not to be trusted. I rock with Ace tho so Im gonna wait and make sure its not new Ace bars over '01 Doom beats that didnt get used on Fishscale.

    • Kung-Fu

Dooms rhyming workrate is appaling to the point where I can cosign what F Rap said. He's far from wack but his ethics are.

    • Ramiro

yeah doom is cool, just dont go to one of his shows haha

    • Severe Thebeneficent

DOOM is nice you crazy... "got more sole than a sock with a hole, hit the stage with a goal to have the game locked in a cage gettin shocked through the pole"...man GTFOH...DOOM is ill kid...

  • Mr Flamboyant

    This is great news.
