Freddie Gibbs Talks The Importance Of Rock The Bells

Freddie Gibbs talks to Karmaloop TV about the importance of Rock the Bells to Hip Hop.

Karmaloop TV recently caught up with Freddie Gibbs following his set at last week's Rock the Bells performance. The CTE emcee talked about the importance of Hip Hop festivals like Rock the Bells, explaining that it's wholly necessary for the Hip Hop culture to showcase the music's various subgenres on such a major circuit.

“Rap festivals like [Rock the Bells] are important because they’re showcasing a whole lot of different genres in rap,” he explained. “It’s imperative that we do things like this so that we can keep [Hip Hop] going…We’ve got to have this every year."

Gibbs also spoke about what it felt like to appear alongside artists like Lauryn Hill, Black Moon, Nas and Mobb Deep. He said he felt blessed to be able to share the stage with such legendary acts, and that he hopes his performance was up to snuff enough to be able to come back next year.

"When I first saw the list of performers, I was like, ‘Man, I was blessed to be on the poster,’" he said. "I’m happy to be here and hopefully I can be here every year. Hopefully I did my job up to standard so that I can get invited back.”

Hopefully Gibbs will get the chance to be more widely known as a performer. Hopefully his interactions with folks like Lauryn Hill, Kid Cudi, others, will open his mind to other topics in rap. Gary, IN needs to be put on the Rap Map, but hopefully there will be artists to flourish besides crime-culture/trap-rap.. Shout out to Family Treez..

Rock the Bells is important simply because it gives the real artists that don't dickride Young Money or Maybach Music Group a chance to shine and in the same breath keep hip hop alive. I mean shit they have the absolute best of the best every year headlining from Wu Tang to Tribe Called Quest. It's necessary to the max.

LOL, IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF SHOWCASING DIFFERENT "SUBGENRES" OF HIPHOP. CMON BRUH. NOT DIFFERENT SUBGENRES, DIFFERENT TIMES AND IMPORTANT PARTS OF HIPHOP. EVERYTHING IN ROCK THE BELLS IS HIPHOP- NO SUBGENRES. CMON BRUH, MOBB DEEP AND BLACK MOON AND NAS AND LAURYN HILL ALL THE SAME HIPHOP. CMON BRUH. I GET IT, BUT NOT SUBGENRES. DIFFERENT PERIODS AND TIMES AND THATS GOOD AT ALL. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IF THEY DONT THEY DONT KNOW WHATS WHAT.

It would be important to me if they ever came to fuck in florida..and not just say they are comin to club firestone in Orlando on ticket masters website and specifically say tickets at the door so 2 white dudes won't roll 5 blunts for the show and stand outside a closed club like..the fuck? Not that it happened to me or anything 2 years ago or anything.
