Karmaloop TV recently caught up with Freddie Gibbs following his set at last week’s Rock the Bells performance. The CTE emcee talked about the importance of Hip Hop festivals like Rock the Bells, explaining that it’s wholly necessary for the Hip Hop culture to showcase the music’s various subgenres on such a major circuit.
“Rap festivals like [Rock the Bells] are important because they’re showcasing a whole lot of different genres in rap,” he explained. “It’s imperative that we do things like this so that we can keep [Hip Hop] going…We’ve got to have this every year.”
Gibbs also spoke about what it felt like to appear alongside artists like Lauryn Hill, Black Moon, Nas and Mobb Deep. He said he felt blessed to be able to share the stage with such legendary acts, and that he hopes his performance was up to snuff enough to be able to come back next year.

“When I first saw the list of performers, I was like, ‘Man, I was blessed to be on the poster,’” he said. “I’m happy to be here and hopefully I can be here every year. Hopefully I did my job up to standard so that I can get invited back.”
