One of the five finalists in HipHopDX & A3C’s “Pick 3” Contest is veteran Money Making Jam Boys emcee STS. Sugar Tongue Slim is an Atlanta, Georgia vet, who just released a popular all-original mixtape, The Illustrious. With appearances on The Roots‘ acclaimed 2010 How I Got Over album, STS is pushing to rock for the hometown crowd.

Calling himself “the best rapper from the ATL,” Slim makes a convincing case for HipHopDX readers to get an authentic Atlanta experience at A3C.

STS: This year has been all about The Illustrious. We just put out the project; it’s an all-original street album. That’s where our focus has been this year.

DX: What would an A3C showcase appearance do for you, your career?

STS: AC3 would be a great look for the promotion of the project and myself. It’s a festival – a lot of artist and fans come out to and get to actually be one-on-one with the artist. Also, it’s in ATL and I’m the best rapper from ATL, so I know they’d love to see the prodigal son return.

DX: What makes your performances and performance style unique?

STS: My style is a bit emcee, bit comedian, I just have a good time talk shot with the folk and show the world what I do best.

DX: To someone new to your music, what can you say or show that is convincing to vote for?

STS: Just listen to Illustrious or Demand More: Gold Edition. I stand behind anything I put out. Or you can check The Roots’ [How I Got Over] or the 10 Deep’s Money Making Jam Boys’ [The Prestige] project. Gold!
