K’naan has been tapped to star in the upcoming film The Catastrophist, helmed by British director Nick Broomfield (Biggie & Tupac, Kurt and Courtney) and co-starring Steve Coogan and Stephen Dorff.

The flick, adapted from Ronan Bennett’s bestseller, is described as “a love story set against Belgian Congo’s decolonization of the 1960s.” The film will shoot in Tanzania’s Mwanza, since it’s considered “too risky” to lens in the neighboring Congo.

The Catastrophist will also be the first foreign feature to shoot in the East African nation since John Wayne and Howard Hawks filmed 1962’s Hatari!.
