Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 8/14/2011

Jay-Z & Kanye West are record-breaking chart royalty. Ace Hood scores a Top 10 debut, Nickel Nine nearly out-sells Waka and Gucci, and Tyler, The Creator and "MBDTF" have major bounce-backs.

It was a record-breaking week on the charts.

Billed as the first leak-proof album of its kind, Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative effort,  Watch The Throne nearly went reached gold status in its first week. A bulk of those sales were exclusively through iTunes, breaking a record for the Apple digital music store for most first week-units sold ever. Reports indicated that approximately 290,000 of WTT's 436,000 units sold were from iTunes, in which case breaking Coldplay's 2008 record by 135,000 copies. The work features Frank Ocean, Mr. Hudson and Beyonce.

Speaking of, Beyonce's 4 remained a Top 10 release. The Destiny's Child alum's fourth solo offering features an appearance by Outkast's Andre 3000, along with production from Kanye West and his production team - including Jeff Bhasker, as well as a writing credit to former G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence.

Def Jam Records' other release last week, Ace Hood's Blood, Sweat & Tears pulled a Top debut. The Miami, Florida rapper and DJ Khaled protege sold over 25,000 first-week units. The rapper's third album features Yo Gotti, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Royce Da 5'9 and Eminem (as Bad Meets Evil) and their album, Hell: The Sequel climbed three spots. As of now, the Motor City natives are gradually approaching 500,000 units sold, which would earn Royce his first plaque from the RIAA.

A third duo, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame's Brick Squad 1017 project, Ferrari Boyz, also debuted, with over 15,000 units sold. The Warner Brothers Records project features production from Drumma Boy, as well as in-house hit-makers Lex Luger and Southside.

* Please note: figures below approximated to nearest thousandth.

Royce Da 5'9's solo album, Success Is Certain, scored a Top 25 debut. Nickel Nine's self-proclaimed "last solo album on an independent" featured some impressive help, such as Eminem, Travis Barker and Joe Budden, despite its Gracie Productions backing. The album is a thematic update to Royce's sophomore album, 2004's Death Is Certain.

Another Detroit, Michigan emcee, Big Sean, is fast approaching 200,000 units sold with his G.O.O.D./Def Jam Records debut, Finally Famous: The Album. Executive produced by Kanye West, the project was largely handled under the direction of Chicago Hip Hop pioneer No I.D.

Speaking of 'Ye, last November's magnum opus My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy saw a 29-place increase on the charts. Reportedly, the album's work with West's mentor, Jay-Z, is what prompted the idea for Watch The Throne.

A follow-up to 2009's Chamber Music, Legendary Weapons enjoyed a third week on the charts. Not to be confused as an official Clan album, this work, produced by Funk outfit The Revelations, along with guidance from RZA, featured Sean Price, Roc Marciano and Action Bronson, in addition to Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God and Inspectah Deck. Masta Killa and GZA did not participate. The work fell 53 more spots in its second week on the charts.

OFWGKTA's Tyler, The Creator and Goblin climbed 19 spots on the charts, crossing the 100,000 mark.

Succes is not the first week sales (only) people. It's so much more than that. Succes can be about sales, making money, being granted more opportunities like touring/endorsements/promo etc. but it can also be critical succes, accolades in the form of awards and all that type succes. Glad to have shared this immense piece of knowledge to my fellow people. lol

So I guess Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt and Nas Illmatic were not true Hip Hop albums since those albums did not have a disco/punk rock fanbase are all REAL listeners of Hip Hop? And that makes Eminem's Relapse and Recovery EVEN MORE based in the origins of Hip Hop than ANYTHING Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, TuPac, Common, and DJ Premier have done? OWNED. Fuck outta here.

  • Mrnoluv

Lenny, I've been listening to HIP HOP since it first came out! Before you were born! I can name groups you never heard of! I am a historian of hip hop! WBLS Frankie Crocker, that's how far I go back, look it up. When Em left in 2004, you can trace that as the beginning of the end/death of hip hop. Like I said before you young cats are the ones to blame, mainly because you guys are all about image. Like you said if you don't fit into WHAT YOU CONSIDER a real hip hop fan, well they can't be true hip hop fans. THAT SHIT IS THE DUMBEST THING I EVER HEARD. Lenny did you know HIP HOP had it's origins from DISCO??? Rappers back in the days at the LQ (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about) or the Roof Top rapped over disco beats because old disco beats had long ass breaks you could rap over. So you saying someone that likes punk, rock...can't be a hip hop fan, you sound ignorant! Every hip hop fan back in the late 70's was a disco fan you idiot! What the fuck are you talking about??? We all loved P-Funk, Donna Summer, Sylvester, GQ, fuck even the Bee Gees. But according to you, that means we weren't real HIP HOP fans??? Fool this was the origin. You need to learn your history and stop being stupid. Did you realize that Rap and Punk would get played in the same clubs back in the early 80's? Fool have you ever heard of a Punk band called BLONDIE??? Never heard of one of the first rap singles ever call RAPTURE BY BLONDIE??? Man you are so fucking ignorant. I can tell you know nothing about the history of hip hop, and you are concerned only about image and what you think hip hop should be. Forgetting that the history of hip hop included rappers making ROCK/RAP songs like King or Rock or Rock Box. You do realize that the Beastie Boys were a punk band before they started rapping right? So they weren't true hip hop according to you and your image right? See little kids. You and your image of what is hip hop and this if a guy that likes punk or rock buys it, it's not real hip hop...are the ones that killed hip hop! Back in the days image didn't mean shit, it was all about if you were tight on the mic. Now, fools like this Lenny dumb ass exist and say hey if you don't have a prison record, if you sell records, don't rap about killing, don't smoke weed...all the typical tired old bullshit...then you aren't hip hop. THIS IS WHY HIP HOP CANT SELL. THIS IS WHAT KILLED HIP HOP. THIS IS WHY IT'S BEEN DYING AND OR DEAD SINCE 2004! KIDS, STOP WORRYING ABOUT IMAGE AND WORRY ABOUT GOOD, NEW MUSIC! AND LEARN YOUR HISTORY BEFORE YOU SAY DUMB AS SHIT, SOME OF US OLD NIGGAS WILL CALL YOU OUT ON IT!

    • Lenny

And PLEASE Name when said A Rock music fan is NEVER a Hip Hop fan?! I said "EMINEM's fans actually HATE ALL of Hip Hop OTHER than Eminem" Grow up, you keep saying little kids this and little kids that, but you the one with all your "vast knowledge" of Hip Hop that keeps using the most ignorant and unintelligent of all labels on everyone else, YOU are actually more of these lil kids you claim are killing Hip Hop

  • Lenny

Not to mention the lil ass kids that actually went around right before Relapse came out talking about "Real Hip Hop has been dying since Eminem left", the dumbest statement in the world. So I guess from 2004 to 2009 Kanye's The College Dropout and Late Registration, Common's BE and Finding Forever, Nas' Hip Hop is Dead and Untitled, Talib Kweli's Eardrum, and Jay-Z's American Gangster were ALL horrible albums that were not as good as Relapse or Recovery and were also part of killing off Hip Hop too huh? Fuck outta here. Only people that dont know shit about Hip Hop would ever make a stupid ass statement like that, which is 80% of Eminem's fanbase, that dont even listen to Hip Hop at all unless it's him. And please don't come with that "I listen to other rappers other than Eminem" bullshit. This is a Hip Hop website, OF COURSE the users of this site listen to other rappers than Eminem. Go on a Screamo/Punk Rock website, the only rappers all those users listen to are Lil Jon and Eminem. And they love those 2 rappers because they have more of a Rock edge to their music. "Get Crunk" is still a very popular term among Goths. DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH.

Eminem could be on a song with 50 other rappers, each and every other rapper has a much better verse, people will only pay attention to Eminem just because it's him. Look on youtube with the BET Cypher between Black Thought, Mos Def and Eminem, Em the ONLY one that just rappin just to rap, no story at all, and look at the comments about how "OMG Eminem told a story". Yall bitch ass niggas need to take Em's dick out ya ass and wake up

I don't get how a guy, who doesn't have a track with Eminem where the both rhyme, can say this. Eminem got him on delivery, but Jay's first verse nicer. • murdermitten

hell ya faggots like u would eat that shit up... anything jay or eminem touches at any point in time will sell no matter wat

    • Lenny

@ Jake Eminem is an overrated rapper that raps about shitting in women's mouths and raping them over and over. As far as his non Hip Hop fanbase goes, they actually admit to NOT listening to Hip Hop AT ALL, only Eminem. I'm pretty sure there are penty of Jay, Rakim, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flocka, Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim fans that also listen to other forms of music, but NOT to the point of that being the ONLY rapper they listen to. PROOF: Go to ANY website online discussing EMinem and watch how many comments read "I hate rap music unless it's Eminem" and watch how stupid you look. Eminem's weakest shit will sell just because it's him. If Jay-Z put out an album about sucking dicks all day, you REALLY think people will actually buy that shit?!

    • Jake

@Lenny Go fuck yourself, seriously--That comment about Eminem not being a HipHop artist is probably the dumbest comment ever on the internet. His fans actually buy his albums and it FUCKING DOESN'T MATTER IF 80% OF HIS FANS DON'T LISTEN TO HIPHOP 24/7. YOU THINK JAY'S FANS ARE 100% HIPHOP LISTENERS? NO! ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID OR WHAT? LOL I'M NOT EVEN GOING TO REPLY BACK WITH A COMMENT THAT ACTUALLY WILL PROBABLY CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT EMINEM. FUCKING IGNORANT PIECE OF SHIT, FAGGOT! I'M NOT A STAN, JUST A PISSED OFF GUY WHO LOVES HIPHOP AND WOULD SMACK THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, PRICK!

    • anonymous

lets see.... i listen to eminem, eric b & rakim, Biggie, the Chronic, nas, Pac, Snoop, Wu tang, outkast, Jay z, Kanye, Lupe, the Beatles, Nirvana, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, and Jimi Hendrix.... u fuckin tell me if im a screamo rock, punk rock, and heavy metal guy u fuckin ignorant piece of shit.....try listening to welcome to hell and above the law--- which are off his newest ep-- and then try tellin me he makes pop music

    • Anonymous

Eminem NOT Hip Hop? That's the most ridiculous point I've ever heard on this site.

    • Lenny

Eminem is NOT a Hip Hop artist. He is a Pop star that raps. Look at his fanbase. 80% of his fans DONT EVEN LISTEN to Hip Hop, they only listen to Screamo Rock, Punk Rock, Heavy Metal and Eminem. That's why he sells so much, because this fanbase actually buys records. Keep being a mindless sheep all you want.

  • kila

Mehn, gucci n wacka flop haaaard!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Truth !

Lose yourself & Stan>>>>>Jay's Singles Discography MMLP, TES, SSLP>>>>> Jay's album discography except Reasonable Doubt. Em is the best thing that happened to hip hop since Tupac. Em is the ONLY reason why Hip Hop is still relevant. Am talking because i travel to other countries and see that Em is the only rapper most of these countries know. Jay is great as well, but stop comparing. Em made the art more accepted, hip hop owes him for that !

    • Anonymous

I'm pretty sure that I know more underground rap artists than you and Eminem, Nas and Jay-Z are the only mainstream rappers I respect. Stop that foolish hate, Eminem is the man. His skills are undeniable, Hip Hop needs these icons who are known all over the world. And Lose Yourself was one the absolute best records of the last decade, lyrical and flow wise.

    • Lenny

I'm pretty sure you one of the Stans that think EVERY SINGLE SONG Eminem makes is a classic. Yeah, songs about getting fucked in his ass by his stepdad, rapping about doing sexual acts with a girl that includes shitting on her chest and pissing in her mouth, unicorns and Miley Cyrus ALL makes for CLASSIC Hip Hop songs, huh? You probably dont even know ANYTHING about Hip Hop other than Eminem.

    • Wrong Facts !

Hip Hop did more numbers in the 90's ?????? I don't think so. Hip hop Dominated the 2000's, primarily because of Eminem !

The initial post does have alot of truth in it. I'm not a Jay-Z fan or an Em fan but Em never will have the same appeal as far as DJ spinning him or ladies reciting his rhymes. Jay-Z is from a different ERA then Em is so it's not even a fair comparison. Jay-Z legacy is probably the biggest in HIP-HOP History as much as I hate to say it. Em just doesn't have the same impact overall. Be honest with yourself white america was buying Hip-Hop way before Em was on the map, so he has really not changed anything about the game he just added a hell of a resume to it

That's how overrated Eminem is. I bought both the Em & Royce album and Jay & Kayne album. I must say I'm sort of pissed that there were "Deluxe Editions" for both of these. How is the "Watch The Throne" album gonna leave off "H.A.M."?

  • hiphopheadsince1988

When you put out an album called watch the thrown, you have to overcome the hype and show proof that you are even on a throne. 1.no church in the wild was a dope intro track until kanye busted out with the autotune, i was like nooooooooo. 2. lift off, why the fuck would you put this track right after no church, this track sounds like it should have been track 11. 3 niggas in paris was alright the beat change up at the end was dope(the mini beat changes inbetween tracks were dope). 4. otis was okay nothing special been done before (kanye samples). 5. gotta have it very very dope. 6 new day, autotune nuff said, but lyrics on point. 7. thats my bitch(whoa very very very dope) everything else not worth mentioning except for why i love you so(pretty dope), was hoping bonus tracks would save album, but nothing special. This album should have been called something else other than watch the throne maybe watch the couch. eminem and royce had a 9 track ep with 7 bangers (lighters wack and take from me leftover recovery track). WTT had 16 tracks with 6 bangers Fact is em and royce put less effort in an ep that felt more hiphop (lyricly) than a full length album by jay-z and kanye called Watch the Throne...fuck outta here....let the hate begin

    • Anonymous

hiphopheadsince1988: The two bonus tracks are bangers as well....9 bangers total. 10 for me....Take from me was dope. WTT was straight up trash !

who gives a fuck who sings the autotune part, point is there was an autotune part that didnt fit this ill track. The lyrics to why i love you so felt real in what jay was trying say. murder to excellence was alright but like i said it wasnt worth mentioning

    • Lenny

On No Church in the Wild, that was not Kanye on the Auto-Tune, that was The-Dream. And how the fuck you gonna say Why I love you was a good song when Murder to Excellence shits on that song in every single way possible?

  • Anonymous

Eminem stans are the absolute WORST fans in the world. First off, they think that ANYTHING Eminem puts out is a classic. Look at Encore and Relapse, the 2 worst albums of Em's catalog, in 2004 when Encore came out all of Em's stans all said it was a classic, and did the same in 2009 after Relapse came out. But in 2010 on Recovery when Eminem said those last 2 albums wern't that good, thats when all his stans started saying the same thing. Second of all, his fanbase is actually NOT a Hip Hop fanbase. About 80% of his fanbase listen to Screamo, Punk Rock, Death Metal or any other similar type of music. Want to prove this? Go to any review of any Enimem album online and I guarantee you that a majority of the comments read like this: "I dont listen to rap music, but I listen to Eminem." or "The only rap I like is Eminem, everything else is crap." That also determines how he sells so many records. For example, if a rapper puts out an album that sells 265,000 in the first week, it will stop selling at around 750,000 and maybe get lucky and max out at 850,000. But you take Eminem's fanbase, which as said earlier is mostly the Screamo/Punk Rock music lover, THE FANBASE THAT ACTUALLY BUYS RECORDS, Eminem can sell 265,000 in the first week and end up going 3x Platinum. Eminem is a good rapper though, able to rhyme multi-syllable words together in a rapid fire fashion, but that's all he's good at. Until Eminem puts out another album on the same level as The Marshall mathers LP or at least The Eminem Show, he will continue to be an overrated pop star where 90% of his fanbase don't even listen to Hip Hop but yet blindly claim him to be the best rapper alive.

    • Anonymous

90% of Jay or Kanye's fans don't listen to Hip Hop either.

    • Truth !

Anonymous: Everything u said is false. Encore was dope but weak compared to his past works. 1. Evil Deeds 2. Yellow Brick Road 3. Mosh 4. Toy Soldiers 5. Puke 6. Curtains Down 7. One Shot Two Shot 8. Spend Some Time 9. Mocking Bird 10.Rain Man 11.Just Lose It. Consider Encore with that playlist. Btw, most of Jay's album are mostly 10-11 tracks.

    • Eduardo Traconis

thank you finally someone said it and put it out there i agree with everything you just said right there Em hasnt been the same since he made The Eminem show after that i just stop listen to him just sounded like he was a little kid rapping about other peoples business and all my friends that buy Em albums dont even listen to an other rapper out there just him

Real hip-hop heads appreciate both Em and Jay. They want diversity. AND they understand lyrics can be very simple or complex but hit hard just the same. These NEW heads or fake heads are all about riding for one or 2 artist. They also equate underground with quality. These are the people who are "killing" hop-hop. Please leave.

    • cmon son

thats the problem these so called fans they dont know when a artist has progressed or not some artist music reflect whats going on in there personal lives and some refuse to graduate from the corner because thats all thay know and some artist have very limited vocabualary just like the fans

this shit funny. Nigerian artists P-Square sold over 1 Million records in the first four days in Nigeria. M.I. Abaga sold 300,000 records in 30 minutes in Nigeria. i think i see why Kanye west signed D'Banj and Don Jazzy. It is the market.

  • Nick Crookshank

All people do on this site is fight now. So here's my take... #1 Eminem is the best rapper alive and will be placed in the top three with Big & Pac. I know more belong.. I.e. Nas. But he won't be, because he wont. #2 In the late 90s and most of 2000, eminem ruled the shit. He fell off, and while he's not the same; lets just face it and agree he's had one hell of a comeback. #3 WTT is a solid eight with six points to Kanye, Jay-Z is almost 50 and is pretty much done. Not album of the year, but it's pretty damn good. #4 However, WTT is better than BME because BME was a free throw that Em gave to Royce. Eminem felt bad about the past and wanted to boost his stock. One of the steps to recovery is making amends right? 5# Record Sales. WTT will outsell BME, probably once Lift Off takes over the airways. Lets face it, the rap game has changed. It's gotten to commercial and poppy. But you need to respect it. And that's what a lot of you people don't have. Respect.

HEY ASSFUCK ! DR DRE, SNOOP DOGG ARE IN THEIR 40'S ! EVEN EMINEM IS ALREADY IN HIS LATE 30'S. HIP HOP IS FOR EVERYONE AND NOT ONLY FOR THE KIDS !

    • Anonymous

Your whole argument is weak. Jay Z fell off where? I will never except anybody saying Jay is a weak lyricist, ESPECIALLY when they come away with "oh he only speak on money shit". That right there tells me you didn't listen to a damn thing. Em has ALWAYS been and is technically efficient. But the old Em was more loose and spontaneous with his flows. The New Em although very good is trying to mimic his former self instead of just continuing to evolve as he started on Relapse. He has to keep following his heart and not cater to rabbid bar fans.

  • Itiswhatitis

WATCH THE THRONE is a beautiful piece of work I must say.

  • Chill

LOLOLOLO!!!!! Dudes on here writing thesis on why their favorite rapper is better than Jay Z. Who does that? What, Jay can't have ANOTHER #1 album? Yawl have lost your minds.

  • George Lee Jr

ok the reason why eminem is the best rapper in hip hop is because he has the most hunger, lil do ppl forget encore buddy. he said it himself he was gone dis kanye and wayne for no reason except for they were hotter than him. em lives hip hop, if it wasnt literally for hip hop em would probably be dead of an overdose. also eminem has wider fan base than jay-z and kanye combine(look at his facebook likes)....another thing if royce was a superstar in hip hop niggas would be shittin on him, the reason his lp didnt sell is because 1, niggas are illegally downloading 2, in mainstream music he will always be none as eminem first hype man

  • Jay-z !

Jay's ft Nas---Success(American Gangster, 2007)-----"I used to give a fuck, now I give a fuck less What do I think of success" Eminem----I'm Back(MMLP, 2000)-----"I used to give a - fuck, now I could give a fuck less What do I think of suc-cess?" How can u say Jay-z is better than Eminem when Jay-z built his career from stealing lines of other Rappers ???? HOW ??????? Pls, don't call this homage, because whenever Jay is accused of copying BIG, he calls it Homage.......

    • Anonymous

Swords Fuck the excuses.....Stealing lines is part of Jay's culture, not hip hop. Pls quote the line Em stole from BIG and Nas. !

    • Swordz

I refuse the to explain a practice that has been going on in Hiphop since the beginning to a jumped up little white prik. Clearly you've never heard EM quote famous BIG or Nas lines in his music. Fuuking little 9 year-olds cock riding EM like he's the second comming.... Irratates me sooo much!

    • Truth !

@Dre and Swordz: No lame excuses.....Explain why jay should use Em's line in his song ?????

Em is on a different level then even these two. Em is the biggest selling artist of the decade, its not really fair to compare his fan base to any other artist. WTT is doing extremely well for a album without a big promotion campaign behind it, for most people this album came from nowhere.

  • Jay-z The copycat !

If WTT dont do more than 2.5 mil it will be considered a flop, especially since Eminems last album did 4mil (by himself no numerous producers, charlie willson cameos).

    • Andre Cooper

Lame ass comment..... It already broke i-tunes records already and that alone makes it not a flop.....So it already is a success..... You just hoping that it fails but it already is a number one album!!!! It you are kidding yourself if you think it ain't going plat.....And who said a album has to be 2mil to be a success? This ain't the 90's dumb dumb!!!! Kill yourself!!!

It's a damn shame that Royce has wasted so much of his career toiling on the independent scene and getting very little to show for it in terms of album sales. The guy is skill-wise easily a top ten in the hip hop game but other than the Hell: The Sequel he won't have a whole lot to sow for it.

    • Anonymous

He is a great rapper, but his music is, similar to Ras Kass', pure garbage. That's why they don't sell.

How many more times you gonna bitch about this? No one gives a fuck about you or Royce, apparently. If he doesn't have someone backing him, he's okay at best.

I've got my own mind enough not to purchase a Drake album or even consider putting him in the same category as the Wu-Tang. A diverse listening ear isn't defined by your willingness to go from commercial to hardcore rap. I purchase the artist I like and that defines having my own mind.

    • Anonymous

Maybe if you bitches would actually buy albums instead of complaining about the state of Hip Hop. I bet the majority who always complains about Gucci and are the first to download a new Royce album.

That is your opinion pimp....As for me i listen to drake and can go right back and listen to wu-tang forever....You know why??? Because i don't follow the hate trend.... Get your own mind pimp....

    • Anonymous

I feel ya bro, but Wu-Tang's legacy is cemented even if they never sell a record again. I prefer them make the music that they have been lately then change up to make an extra buck or two and tarnish their catalog. IMO Legendary Weapons>BME

  • West

kanye & jay-z can't fuck with royce & Shady in my opinion BME ep > WTT lp

  • Rcw

How can you compare BME to WTT? Jay & Ye promoted that shit for a a year and didn't even go gold. To top that off the push it back even longer when Em & Royce announce there putting a ep out. They prob had to go back and re-write there shit. (which still didn't matter) Is rap music about who can make words gel together??? WTT has money cars, money cars. How many times did Jay say "all black everything????????

    • Andre Cooper

Promoted just right....400k....And this ain't the 90's so you are kidding yourself if you think it was going a mil first wk.....You are another hater just trying to find a flaw in jay's armor..... I am no ones stan, I am a stan of the culture. Nas was great because of his content and Illmatic was a classic. But to say wordplay Em is 1000 times better than Jay is insane. Em is nice but Jay-Z has not been in the game this long because he is average. The dude makes great music, hate it or Love it.

    • Anonymous

mindrelated: U crazy Jay-z stan GTFOH !! What makes Nas Great ? If not lyricism ? Em Vs Jay Lyrics-----Em by 1000's of miles Flow-----Subjective, debatable. Wordplay/Rhymes-----Em By 1000's of Miles Em embodies all the qualities of an Mc.

    • mindrelated

See a person who did not listen to the album. There is more than money and cars on the album so miss me with that. Secondly, what did Em and Royce address on their album...I will wait. Nothing, just like Em rarely ever does, just a bunch of crazy shit. Royce and Em are lyrical as hell but just being lyrical does not make music better. It is about content, delivery, purpose. Look at Papoose, Canibus...yes they can spit but they do not make great music.

It's clear that Hiphopdx have the highest number of illiterates. WTT is an "LP"....BME is a fucking "EP" for Christ sake. Like, Drake's "Far so Gone" could barely cross Gold status, but his LP nearly hit Gold in the first week. Secondly, WTT was highly promoted. Jay n Ye promoted their asses out for that album. They were constantly releasing teasers, commercials, etc etc.... BME was barely Promoted. BME released their album barely a month after announcement. The whole fucking world knows Em sells triple of what jay sells. Jay-z+Kanye's Entire discography is not even up to Em's sell. Is blueprint 3 still on the charts ? No. Blueprint ? No. Black Album ? No. MMLP, Curtains Call, TES, Recovery, HTS are still there, even after years of release. Recovery is heading for 4million...When last did a rap record go 4x platinum ??? WTT V BME, Which is better ? I don't know.

@Dre U clearly hate Em. Saying Eminem show is his only classic confirms that. MMLP, SSLP....u forgot ?

Can we stop pretending like Em's fan base is not bigger than most rap artist. He brought a whole entire culture with him. Did some white people listent to Hip-Hop before Em? Yes! Do more listen to it now since Em has come into the game? Yes! So of course his record sales are higher than Jay-Z's but that still does not take away from who actually has the better body of work. Just going classic for classic, Reasonable Doubt is better than any of Em's ablums, Blue Print also. Numbers do matter because numbers equate to cash but quality also matters. For example, Nas is no where on the charts in reference to numbers but the quality of music is above par.

While I think BME is the better album lyrically, I think WTT is good and I'm pleased that it is selling as opposed to Wack-A and Fucci. Now with that being said, all the idiots talking about Royce nvr doing numbers is an idiot. The dude is UNDERGROUND as a solo arist meaning he gets VERY little marketing. Now if SH goes double wood then everyone can start bitching and moaning abt how Royce and Company can't sell or make an album. Until then the jury is out. From my experience, shit will sell if its marketing right...all you have to do is take a listen to wats playing on the ready as my proof. So if those brainless idiots can sell with a machine behind them, I'm confident that an excellent lyricist can sell with one behind him too...think about it.

Congrats to Jay for another #1 album, that's 12 so far (fucking crazy)...hell, congrats to them both for some impressive sales, I always figured Kanye & Jay would outsell Bad Meets Evil but I didn't think they would do BME's first 2 months in a week! Goddamn! I noticed it doesn't mention in the article what label the album was released on...I'm guessing Roc Nation but I wonder if they did some sort of joint-deal now that G.O.O.D. music is actually a label?

    • Anonymous

EXACTLY. You got it. It's always that way, they quote in ''Men lie, women lie, numbers don't'' in every discussion.

    • Jason Williams

I'm not calling them out I just wanted to see what logic the poster was using. IMO Wu-Tang Clan is not only the best rap group but they've had the biggest impact overall of any rap artist. At the end of the day their a group no matter how many solo projects they have. There will never be anything like them again.

    • deez

"Watch the throne u silly jester" ????? I see what you did there...

  • lol

wait so if WTT does better sales them BME its not the better album. Then how come whenever someone says Eminem is not the king of hiphop ppl immediately say he sells the most? fomf

  • Anonymous

Royce made more than enough money of these 16,000 on that small ass label. Ferrari Boyz is a huge flop though.

  • robbie

success isnt certain, royce always will keep some lyrics on deck, I like his flow and punchlines, he just isnt and never will be a power #'s type of artist. good job tho.

  • robbie

keep in mind the actual WTT disk came out on 8.12.2011! so the sales don't reflect a full week of the actual CD itself. and yea .. made in America could of been left off along with lift off.

  • Mandy Sandy

  • Jason Williams

WTT>BME Where are the Em Stans? Can't wait to hear all the excuses....

    • Anonymous

if the beat counts at the end then i guess you listen to rickross right? i guess you thought that their albums were album of the year since you only care about their production

    • Anonymous

@Anon so which did you like better overall?

    • Anonymous

BME >>> WTT (LYRICALLY). WTT >>> BME (FROM A MUSICAL STANDPOINT). The beats count in the end, you can have all the lyrics you want, if the beat is shitty, the whole song sucks. It's still music and not writing the sickest lines on a paper. Em's voice is also fucking annyoing.

I'm sure my lady makes more then any women in your family. And I wish I didn't have to work since that actually where I'm at now, can you school me on how the unemployment thing works LOL. Not to get off topic WTT is a 9/10 for me personally BME is lyrically a beast but I wasn't feeling some of the production.

    • Roy

Neither one was even average, But still BME >>>>>>>>>>> WTT. What the hell happened to Hip Hop?! People say Recovery was pop(it really was), but so was WTT. I think on BME there was atleast some crazy lyrics and flows.

    • Anonymous

    • Jason

      BME>>>WTT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Your life.

    • Jason Williams

I never said anything about Sales. I simply said WTT>BME....I left it open for a Stan to say something about sales which is what you did.

    • Anonymous

this post is about sells not your feelings bme was highly promoted also dont make a excuse because wtt damn near out sold it in a week after being released BME was released 2 months ago

    • Demarcus

I didn't know album sales were the only requisite for which is better. WTT was a more highly promoted album. I personally liked BME way more than WTT. There's a few tracks on WTT I really like, but the album didn't meet the preceded hype. The main point is album sales shouldn't be your only focal point. You can call me a stan if you want, I call it logic. Declaring superiority based on album sales is dumb. As far as which is better. It's all to the individual really.
