Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Watch The Throne" Breaks iTunes Sales Record

Hov and 'Ye's collaborative album becomes the highest selling digital album in history for first-week sales.

Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative album Watch the Throne, which was released exclusively to iTunes last Monday (August 8th), has broken a record for the online store.

According to reports, the LP has become the highest selling album in the store's history for first-week sales, moving about 290,000 copies to break Coldplay's previous record with 2008's Viva La Vida, which sold 155,000 copies.

Upon its release last week, Watch the Throne rocketed to number one in 23 countries worldwide. Final first-week sales, inclusive of digital and physical units, will be reported on Wednesday.

  • klemzynatra

why do guys have to compare two legends?? there is definitely going to be a unending conflict on who's better but i think Jay has done more for hiphop than em. the whole games DNA flows in jays blood stream,he took it from the 80's and blew big time with the game and every rapper should thank him for the part he played in commercializing the industry. shout out to Biggie and Pac,hands up to eminem and the throne for Jay.For me, i feel WTT should be a sequel to The Dynasty (Roc la familia)album. The album really bridged the gap btw the dynasty and the throne

  • Bek Wan

FUCK racism... FUCK you for hating this post. This album is borderline dopeness

  • someone

the album is too "kanye" sounding. i expected better beats i believe. it's pretty good, wouldn't call it a classic though.

let the haters talk this post has 11k on the like tab thats 11,000

  • Anonymous

I agree 100% homey these lil niggaz just bump mixtapes all day where niggaz don't say anything at all

  • somebody

should of left kanye off the boards and got alchemist or dj premier, THEN it would have been a classic!

  • Can't Deal

And all this White vs Black bullshit is getting on my last nerve. OF COURSE whites relate to Em more, why wouldn't they?? It's natural. Same goes for Blacks relating to Jay more. IT"S NATURAL tendencies to see yourself in these artist. FUCK!

  • Can't Deal

I just can't believe how STUPID todays young hip-hop heads are. WTT is average or wack???? WHAT fucking album are you mental midgets listening too? Is there some alternative WTT out there? The fucking album is hip-hop art. It has depth, doesn't mean it has to speak to you but wack?? Fuck outta' here.

    • omari t.

I wouldn't say the album is wack, but it's not a classic. I won't be playing it for very long.

    • Lenny

@ Moneygram He was saying theose songs WERE thought-provoking, dumbass

    • Moneygram

"Murder to Excellence","New Day" "No Church In The Wild" and "Welcome To The Jungle" aren't thought-provoking??? Shoot yourself

    • Anonymous

I feel you these lil niggaz only care about a chorus and a beat but they dnt wanna listen to substance and something thought provoking

  • somebody

as a jayz fan not big on kanye, will i be dissapointed when i listen to the whole album?

  • Lenny

I'm happy for Jay and Ye. I'm sad for everyone that didnt understand this album. I will admit when I first listened to it I gave it a 4 out of 10 only liking 3 songs off the album and kept asking myself "What is this shit?!" But after awhile I started randomly quoting lines from a few songs and it called me back to listen through it again. After the 2nd time I came out liking a different 3 songs and thought the album was average. This process repeated over and over until I gave the album a final 8.5 out of 10 and I'm currently on my 12th listen. Totally misunderstood album. I also give props to Kanye and Jay for touching on a wide range of topics than just how royal and rich they believe themselves to be. There's a recurring theme on the entire album between family and religion which fit into it all nicely. It definitely succeeds at the "castle music" approach they were aiming for. Watch the Throne is an album where you must listen to it multiple times to see how deep it actually goes and with each listen you come out with something different on your mind. It's not a prefect album either, since there seems to be a feeling that Jay wanted Kanye to hold back on his overall creative power to lower himself to Jay's level. If this album had Kanye at his creative limit then it would have been a much more thought out and cohesive album. But it's way better than what most people have said it is. As far as Jay is concerned, I believe this album fits in between the quality of American Gangster and The Black Album. Kanye on the other hand, actually loses a little ground, compared to all his other work. In my opinion so far it's the 3rd best Hip Hop album of 2011, behind Kendrick Lamar's Section.80 and Saigon's The Greatest Story Never Told.

  • room2roam

it only sold about 300k for the 1st week according to hitdailydouble.com i guess thats good since u could only get it from itunes BUT for these two artists thats decent at best. but in these times when ppl dont buy music its still very respectable. i still havent heard it... waiting on a free copy lol

  • Life Accordin' To DUTCH

okay let me bring this argument down to regular ppl levels..giv me an Eminem hit from the twenty first century that competes with aqnything on this album..im sure its not one record better than "Gotta have it"..or even "niggas in paris"..and dude who said this album was lifeless should kill himself now..this album got the most "life" in it..and you do realize that ur beloved "renegade"..was on a five mic JAY ALBUM..meaning that he "JAPPED" the entire album..so to a group of losers..Eminem was the only feature on the album and i gaurantee u that wasnt the best track on BLUEPRINT..fucouttahere..yall w anything to will say anything to discredit this man..even when u cant..Eminem will never see anotha five mic album in his career...real talk

It's an album that grows on you with every listen, those are usually the best and stand the test of time.

    • Almar

Agreed, Hov Killed Illest Mother Fucker Alive, The First 2 tracks are kind of whack and so is the welcome to the jungle and made in america, but dispite those tracks the album gets sicker with every listen.

    • Anonymous

Jay dropped the verse of the year on Illest Motherfuckers Alive.

    • agree

The beats on this album very complex most songs are 2 songs in one which is amazing sound, very different . i love the creativity too many good songs to pinpoint,. but new day , why i love you. , primetime,. so sick.niggas in paris,. just crazy

  • Joell

Very Well deserved WTT is a well put together album and the beats are complex not like wayne new single

  • REALISE

YOU PEOPLE ARE SO SPOILED, WHAT OTHER GENRE CAN WE HAVE 2 OF THE GREATEST ARTISTS COMBINE TO GIVE US NEW MUSIC,. AS HIPHOP FANS WE GET JAY AND YE, WAYNE AND DRAKE, EM AND ROYCE, WERE VERY PRIVILAGED, YOU DONT SEE PINK AND KELLY CLARKSON DOING THIS OR ANYBODY ELSEFOR THAT FACT , JUST ENJOY IT,.

  • Stedman

WATCH THE THRONE , ALBUM OF THE YEAR , CLASSIC. ALL SONGS SOUND DIFFERENT FROM THE NEXT, DON'T HATE CAUSE U HAVE TROUBLE GRASPING THAT LEVEL OF SUCCESS AND HARD WORK.

  • westcoast

    kanye is a rapper !!!!??

  • Matt Sullivan

WOw and i thought it wouldnt sell much. The album is fire so big up to Jay and Kanye.

  • customer4006

meh! Bad Meet Evil *EP* > Watch the throne *LP* Em&Royce >>kanye&jay-z

  • Rami Matan Even-Esh

thats amazing. i mean what more can you want? @koshadillz congrats to clever thinking in hip hop.

  • TaytheGreat8732

And there is a difference between relating to Jay and Ye's extravagant lyrics and being INSPIRED, as an fyi to all the SIMPLE NEVER WILL BE NOTHING NI*#@s...grow up, if you don't vision it, you a waste of life and no wonder the white folk always outshining us...SIMPLE MINDED NIGGAS WITH NO DREAM...quit hating and do something

  • TaytheGreat8732

Who wants to hear an entire album of Jay and Em anyway hahaha...I'm good on that...let em stick with Dre lol...

  • kumbaiyah

I dare Jay to do a full length rap album with Eminem and get on every track toe to toe with Em. He can't do it. Jay's whole career will be shredded, outdone on every single track by Em. If you don't believe me, listen to Renegades. Now why do you think Jay never has Em on his album nowadays, why do you think he is scared to death to get on the same beat and rap with Em again. BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHAT PEOPLE WILL KNOW FOR SURE WHEN HE LOSES TO EM THE 2ND TIME.

    • Stringer bell

Eminem got outshined by lil Wayne on, no love? Stfu you fuckin hater

    • Truthenola

Granted Em is a lyrical beast , but the song offered 2 different schools of hiphop. Jay held his own , Em is just crazy in that song though , the song is classic , Jay still the greatest of all time,. Can't knock the hustle

    • Nate

It's funny how people always bring up sales (Men lie, women lie, numbers don't) when talking about Jay, 'til the point where Eminem is brought up.

    • Jason Williams

It's funny how people always rem. that Renegade track but no one every mentions how Lil Wayne shined on Eminem in "No Love". So does that make Lil Wayne better then Em? Hell No!

    • Lsn22s

Oh yeah and they DID get on another track together....its called "Syllables" and they both killed it AGAIN....

    • Lsn22s

Why would Jay do that anyways? Kanye and Jay are outselling Eminem and Royce...and I don't think Jay cares that much if Em outshined him on renegade, that was like 10 years ago and Jay has always said he thinks Em is an incredible lyricist in general...shit, he's probaby happy to have one of Em's hottest features ever on his blueprint album anyway... Plus, Jay and Em have been getting some money together with those shows they did together last year... And lastly, Jay has been making chill music while Em has been making spaz music (at least on Bad Meets Evil and Relapse, Recovery was in the middle) so a collab probably wouldn't mesh as well as before...imho

    • Anonymous

Renegade ''you been afraid (since then)''.

    • Anonymous

The thing is, Jay reacted to Eminem's verse and still couldn't outshine him.

  • djgbeatz

Bad Meets Evil>Watch The Throne the Royce n Em collab was so much better, i expected fire from Jay n Ye and hearing the hype n shit n reading about it but i was not impressed, i usually DL albums first before i buy and gave this a listen, and its not an album i will be buying

  • Boss

Did someone just crown Eminem as the King of hip hop? lol. As much sales as Em has, he doesn't have much variety in content, nor do 70% of his audience relate to his music.

    • Jermaine

Dude just because Jay sold that much on itunes doesn't mean he can outsell Em. Em has collectively sold more albums than anybody (not that I care about sales) PLUS he raps waaaaay better than Jay Z (and i'm a Jay Z fan) Em is the GOAT, it's just that Jay Z is waaaay cooler than Em.

    • slyassnakes.

anonymous, keep staying anonymous. Jay's on throne.

But how many can relate to the extravagance of Jay-Z and Kanye?

for all of you who are bitching about this....your opinion matters to no one or you'd spend time talk to your friends....Be a fan, and if your bitching about any stupid comparisons of who's the better rapper, then your wasting your breath. If you like an artist, go to their concert when they come to your city and actually buy their music.....bitching is worthless...NERDS

Hip hop is not commercial, its deep, it has a meaning for each person. it's to express not impress..its a culture that we take to heart..An emcee represents the hip hop culture, sticks to the essence of hip hop, makes times to learn the history, meaning.. corporate rap lives soley for the spotlight, money, fame and not the hip hop culture and its principles..so no..not hip hop in my book.....Unfortunately, hip hop culture has been misrepresented by the media. we shouldn't depend solely on the media for information about hip hop culture, since there have been many cases where the media has helped to promote corruption within our culture. Hip Hop Culture is recognized by its main elements: Graffiti, Djing, Breakdancing, Mcing, and Beatboxing. The element which holds the rest together is "KNOWLEDGE" These elements are forms of art designed to express a deep meaning. Hip Hop is also much more than art and entertainment. Hip Hop adds a face and a voice to those who might not have been seen or heard from in any other medium. Hip Hop gives credence to those who have been historically shunned, disregarded, oppressed and invalidated. It is joy, sorrow, pleasure, pain, victory, defeat, anger, happiness, confusion, life and everything else in between. The constantly evolving spirit and consciousness of urban youth that keeps recreating itself in a never-ending cycle. Hip hop teaches the history of the inner city. It teaches the economics of post-industrialism. The hip hop culture is a lens through which we can really analyze current events and politics in our society. Hip Hop Culture cannot be assimilated, integrated, diluted, watered-down, sold for profit, or pimped. It will always exist, in this incarnation or another. Hip Hop is more than what you hear on the radio, read in the magazines, or what you watch on TV..What the mainstream promotes as Hip Hop, is only a commercial product misleading you into believing that it represents Hip Hop in its totality.

You listed some great rappers that I rate very highly, but success doesn't make Kanye or Jay-Z bad and lack of success doesn't make a rapper good. They're both talented as fuck and deserve it all. You're wrong here, it would be much better to diss people like Game, 50 Cent, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, Nelly, Chingy, Flo-Rida, Rick Ross or Young Jeezy. Those are fools who don't deserve the attention they get and should be dismissed by everyone. But not Kanye or Jay, who both did very much for the progression of Hip Hop, pushing artistic boundaries and making Hip Hop accessible for everyone, they always reinvented themselves and their music could be much worse, if consider their recognition. 90% of the rappers you've mentioned would name Jay-Z as one of their biggest influences. All of them studied his work front to back. Kanye West is a dope ass producer, who's always creative as fuck and made some of the dopest beates ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joHCfll2AGI This is MASTERING of rapping in ALL aspects. You can't deny this, Jay has always had extraordinary talent it's just that he happens to be successful as fuck.

if yall go to rapgenius.com and look up 'watch the throne', and read the various interpretations and explanations offered for the verses throughout the album, then you would realize just how much over peoples' heads this shit really goes. this album demands repeated listens, i didnt feel it at first but its starting to grow on me, both lyrically and sonically.

That's a lie! There are plenty of people blasting Eminem in the hood dude! If that's not true how in the fuck is he the best selling rapper of all time. Somebody in your hood is listening to him and if they tell you different they're lying.

    • Anonymous

Jay is a beast, that's true. But more on the deep side. And not on the destroying other rappers with lyrical firestorms that consist of long ass multi rhymes and vicious flows. He couldn't ever keep up with Eminem or Royce Da 5'9''. Jay himself admitted that Eminem was better on Renegade.

So let me get this str8. Jay-Z talking about Money etc. is BS, but Eminem talking about weird shit, popping pills, and lil girls watching TRL is amazing lyrics? WTF is going on....

    • Anonymous

He can use as many metaphors as he wants. It's still all money and success talk. His obvious alibi tracks, where he raps about other things, can't change that. Hov is another version of Rae, who talks about drugs all the time, like I said, you can revolve it around wordplay, but it's still the same pretentious bullshit with no real content or substance. Renegade (You been afraid since then) should be the name of a new diss track.

    • TheThrone

Straight Blaspheme! Did you say "dead presidents pt.2? Ya'll both need to stay the fuck of this site with that bullshit. None of Em's shit is touching Jay's early catalog.

    • Anonymous

That and anything Eminem has done on Bad Meets Evil in terms of flow variations and rhymes. NOBODY uses the language like Eminem does. Jay could never use his voice like Eminem did on Lose Yourself that was the perfection of rapping itself. One Mic, a good track, seemed like whack garbage compared to it. The flow on Lose Yourself was out of this world and can't be touched, nobody came close.

    • Damn

You sound illiterate. Just saying. You're one of those Jay Z dickriders who like him because he is rich and shit. The rhymes in "lose yourself" shits on anything jay has ever done bar "dead presidents pt2". If you cannot tell that that song is good rappin, you're just biased and your opinion is therefore useless.

  • Nico 3

It's clear if you listen to the album that it wasn't meant to be for everyone. It's about as anti-hip hop as you can get, but hip hop needs albums like this to keep people talking, even complaining. The more they call it wack, the more units they push.

  • ColoradoKnight

Due to the fact that they were able to keep it "leak free" and release it digitally in the first week. The album is par at best. "N****s in Paris" was the only banger on the whole album. RZA's joint was ill along with Pete Rock's record as well. Other than that, it was a swing and a miss, imo.

  • Wolfman

No one has brought up the fact that this is the first hip-hop album to not have a pre-release LEAK since I dunno how long ago. That's got to have SOMETHING to do with having better sales. It was available on iTunes before anywhere else.

  • jeppy345

Funny cause it sucked. Compare it to other cds not just from today but from raps history and it ranks middle of the pack. I guarantee you in 3 years everyone will go put in reasonable doubt, graduation, college dropout, black album, blueprint, etc before ever poppin this back in.

  • Jason Guild

They deserve it. Kanye can break any record. We all know Jay is good too, but a Blueprint 4 or new solo Jay album wouldn't have done this. And we all know who helped end 50's career by outselling him. Yeezy>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Osiel Salas

This is only for iTunes. Lady Gaga holds the record for biggest digital sales in one week.

    • Anonymous

Because cheap fucks bought it for a 1 dollar on amazon her whole album. She did a Mil in first week and did 100k in the second week. FAIL!!! They are gonna see 900k in first week. This album will be triple platinum by November. I can guarantee it.

Ummmmmm, that's because Lady Gaga sold herself or music short by selling her cd for .99!

Sells dont mean the album is all that great , its just whats popular and being talked about right now the most . I actually like 2 or 3 songs off the album , the rest is wack to me .

  • Saywer

cough....Just want to know that this doesn't mean shit. Recovery broke the record for first PLATINUM digital record. You think Jay and Ye will reach that millstone? Pffft.

  • bizzalls

Physical units?? Thought it was only a digital release..

  • Joshua Paradox Crews

correction ITS A TYPO the album wasn't WACK and i said WAS sorry SUPER JAY AND KANYE FANS the album isnt WACK

  • Joshua Paradox Crews

i think they are doing music for the love and the fun and not to wowwww fans with wordplay and over the top vocab! with that said lyrically the album was wack but it wasnt what i expected! but i love the beats, the originality and not sounding like whats out and not picking a conventional in the club single, i like it for all those reasons but out of 10 i give it a 8 mainly for the songs that had jewels and substance! i just wish they had a song up there that said LOOK INDUSTRY WATCH THE THRONE AND TRY TO SPIT LIKE THIS but they dont have it! most of their fly talk songs other artists can say the same thing! i wanted one song that stood out and said to me DAMN THEM SOME HEAVY BARS AND CRAZY VOCAB AND DELIVERY but i didnt get it but its better than whats out I LIKE WHAT RICK ROSS is building though so MMG AND WTT will hold me over til COMMON, NAS, DRAKE, GAME, WAYNE, SLAUGHTERHOSUE, J.COLE, KENDRICK LAMAR, AND JON CONNOR DROPS AN ALBUM! SIDENOTE: if you dont like an elite artists song or album IT DOESNT MEAN YOU ARE A HATER OR YOU ARE NOT RESPECTING THEIR BODY OF WORK people use the word HATER too much! HUMANS CAN HAVE AN OPINION. if someone says JAY AND KANYE ARE WACK and cant spit then thats HATING but liking or not LIKING THIS ALBUM WONT MAKE YOU A HATER! (I AM AN ARTIST, FAN, AND HIP HOP PURIST)

    • Mado_QUAZI

      Damn you wrote an essay....

    • DaDon

Those are true words. Honestly in this point in their careers they pretty much can put out whatever they want to and not care about fans or critics reactions. Jay sometimes puts on a facade like he cares what people think but he really doesn't. I mean what does he have to prove to the next generation? They grew up on him, they've watched him growing up the brilliant moves he makes. He has classic albums under his belt, one of the wealthiest black men in the world, thirthteen grammys, 50 million albums sold they only rappers who sold more than his are Pac and Em. What more can he do? Like the song on the Black album.

  • Luke

What’s a king to a god? What’s a god to a non-believer? Who don’t believe in anything? - i cant believe people listen to this garbage

  • Hater

Bad Meets Evil is still much better than Watch The Hoes. And sales don't mean shit, Watch The Hoes got promoted like 6x more than Bad Meets Evil. I don't give a fuck about Jay-Z or Kanye West. Fucking freemason and bisexual...

    • Fado

yeah Watch the thrown had better production. Jay and Kanye (especially) weren't more lyrical then Em and Royce in my opinion. If you think about it Kanye isn't lyrical at all he just has a dope ass flow and says clever shit. Overall musically I like watch the thrown more. bar for bar looking at it from a purely hiphop perspective hell the sequel was a better album.

    • Tellitlikeitis

Jay-Z drops some mad gems on Watch The Throne , trust as lyricist I know when hear one. WTT has better production-value than BME and it gets the edge for being more creative and fresh. There was nothing original or new on Bad Meets Evil, but amazing barbaic word sparing.

    • Anonymous

em and jay cant be compared they rap about totally different topics

    • Anonymous

He can rap better than eminem.Jay z is the best n watch the throne is better than Hell;the sequel.....

    • Its Sik

watch the throne didn't get hardly any promotion. personally i believe its the best album of the year. not tryna argue, i dnt like bad meets evil, they shit in my opinion, but thats just me

  • OnemikE

sum ignorant a$$ said why isnt eminem on top forbes list, its cuz he doesnt tour as much as other rappers, aint much of a hustler like lets say Jay. But he doesnt have too cuz he's chillen cuz he sells more records then any of ur fave rappers wish of selling in their wildest wet dreams fool! people like jay and kanye get paid more cuz they have more things going on as far as the business aspect, your boy Em gets most of his earnings from just going multi platinum and i really doubt Dre gets 50% of all his sales.

  • Brandon

Album is a major dissapointment to me. Verses are short with corny lines and terrible chorus'. Was expecting more, not even close to being considered a classic.

    • Anonymous

Listen to Jay's verses closer he's always spitting double entendres that most people won't catch, till later.

  • sun_god7

You have to judge albums within the context of when it came out. With that said - it is a really good album. But I'll be hard pressed to say that it is a classic with the all time best HipHop albums. But the marketing for this album is classic...

  • Anonymous

BUY WTT INSTEAD OF WEEZY OR GAME, THOSE ALBUMS ARE NOT CLASSICS. AND LADY GAGA ONLY SOLD 1MIL FIRST WEEK CUZ THAT TRASH WAS 99CENTS ON AMAZON."COUTURE FLOW DONT GO ON SALE"-YEEZY.

  • Anonymous

eminem is the new elvis, do your history. elvis came in the game singin r&b and gospel... they thought it was his. eminem raps... rolling stone calls him the king. i rest my case. eminem will tell you himself he aint no fuckin king of this shit.

  • Anonymous

crazy, i bought it, downloaded it, and hussled a copy for free online! it was hard to get tho.... i aint lyin, niggas had a vice grip on them shits!

  • Anonymous

fuck what eminem sells, how come he aint on top of the forbes list??? thats right.... the good ol doctor owns 50% of his ass!! shady/aftermath.

  • Anonymous

is it me, or is hip hop the new pop/rock n roll?(in sales only),thats good, i love to hear these two on top, again and again, plus i want jay more #1's(albums) than all those greats.

  • ok

Not a big Jay-Z and Kanye fan, but this is good. Sales ain't like they used to be, but atleast hip-hop is far from dead.

  • dockevoc

Is it me or has Jay really fallen off since he got eaten alive by Kanye on "Run this Town?"

    • dockevoc

Critically acclaimed? I don't know anyone who likes that bullshit...just cause Rolling Stone gives it 4 stars don't make it hot... Why would he try to one up his own artist? Because he never had the worst verse on a song for 13 years and now he's had it on EVERY song for almost 2 years running. This dude is tarnishing his legacy ala Jordan on the Wizards.

    • Anonymous

why would he try to 1-up his own artist put some thought into it lmaooo

    • Anonymous

Did you really just put American Gangster in there??? You are aware that American Gangster was critically acclaimed album right? That album was consider one of Hov's best works. Most of the hip hop community would agree to that.

    • dockevoc

I was just using those albums as fuel for a "You're a blind Jigga fan and he can do no wrong in your eyes" argument. But those albums SUCKED. And they were both better than the horrid Blueprint3. Can't say I agree with you about Monster or So Appalled...I think he had the worst verses on both of those as well...and when your going for the GOAT title (defending it in some people's eyes) and getting bodied by Nicki fucking Minaj on a joint?!?!!? I'm just saying, it warrants serious discussion.

    • EEZY

So first you ask if Hov has fallen off since "Run This Town" and then you go and name two albums he released before it. So when did he fall off? Was it "Run This Town" or Kingdom Come or American Gangster? I can see your argument I guess, if you want to say Kingdom Come and American Gangster weren't great albums. In my opinion he made a mistake by not sticking with what was working for him by using more of Kanye's production on both of those albums. ...but he sorta killed his verses on the POWER remix, Monster and So Appalled. And it's not like he was really taking a nap on WTT and letting Kanye do all the work. If anything Hov seems like he's a lot hungrier then he was since "Run This Town".

    • dockevoc

Really??? Well, you must've really enjoyed Blueprint 3, Kingdom Come and American Gangster then!

  • NUMBERS

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! YOU TWO MORONS SOLD ABOUT AS MUCH AS EMINEM SELLS BY HIMSELF... SO I GUESS THATS SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT. SMFH

    • TheThrone

@ Paul David Digitally as a whole though, but that was including multiple digital medias. Jay and Kanye broke the most records downloaded in the history of "itunes" only. Em didn't sell that many downloads on itunes.

    • Paul David

@First Anon Uhh...you do know that Recovery made history as the first Platinum selling digital album right? Better than WTT digitally.

    • Anonymous

UMMMM, EM HAS A LOT OF RECORDS. DO YOUR RESEARCH

    • Anonymous

If em sold this why didn't he have the record then fam? Overall he does sell more, but this record is digital sells for the first week

  • DUSGUSTING

    YAY! RICH NIGGAS GETTIN RICHER!

  • KKK

BAD MEETS EVIL DIDN'T SELL BECAUSE OF THE NIGGA ON THE ALBUM COVER ! WE SUPPORT ONLY EMINEM AND NOT HIS HOUSE NIGGAZ

  • shane

Had to pirate this album as they only released it on itunes and I refuse to give apple a cent. Next time when you release it digitally, don't bias to one market dipshits.

  • Anonymous

Very disappointing album. These two aren't hungry anymore.

    • Anonymous

Real talk. People don't realize that if Jay and Kanye fail, hip hop fails. Em can't carry hip hop alone on his back, no matter how great he is.

    • AceDaWon

Your opinion isnt more wrong then anybody else. But to all you people saying Jay and Kanye arent hungry anymore are probaly right,I mean Jay-z and kanye are in the top 5 Forbes Hiphops list. Each with successful albums. They are Just doing albums for fun now. You could go back to Jay-z first album or the Black Album to hear "Real HipHop". I mean think If WTT is as bad as you all say then HipHop in general is In trouble cause I rather listen to this album everday then to half of whats out now. smh Now comment this if you Heard the Album before rating and dissing the Album?....... My guess is about half. SAD

  • NOAH DA DESTROYAH

WOW, FUCKEN AMAZING!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO HOV AND YE' FOR BRINGING BACK THE REAL HIP HOP AND MAKING A VERY SUCCESSFUL ALBUM...IT HAS GENIUS WRITTEN ALL OVER IT...BEATS, LYRICS, AND MARKETING...EVERYTHING ON POINT..FAVORITE SONGS ARE New Day,Murder is excellence, why i love you, illest mofo alive, prime time, the joy..DAMN ALL SONGS ARE GREAT. THIS IS THE REALEST NIGGAS IN THE GAME AND THERES NOTHING FAKE ABOUT THEM UNLIKE DRAKE AND WIZZY...A TV ACTOR FROM THE 'BURBS AND A FAKE BLOOD THAT KISSES MEN IN THE MOUTH AND DOESNT PAY HIS PRODUCERS...HIP HOP IS BACK...MY HATS OFF TO JAY AND 'YE

    • Anonymous

LOL at Nas best lyrically, maybe about the time It Was Written was released.

    • Anonymous

why guys have to bring up dead Mc's among the living.Nas couldn't hold it down this long. you guys just stock in the past. Jay keeps changing with the game. classic album if u love hip hop. Nas is best lyrically though, but who's talking that here? we talking jay & ye's record. thumps up guys.

    • Anonymous

Nas and Preemo will make a lot of noise in the hip hop community and among real hip hop heads. As much as people have a deep hatred for pop culture, it's whats keep hip hop relevant among the masses.

    • The B

Agree about drake and weezy but fuck you on the rest. j and ye aint the best. gimme a Nas and Preemo album then we'll see!!!

  • Nuno Andrade

all this niggas want , is money...........

  • Hayman Curtis

amazing, great marketing on their part but the album is juvenile and not for the REAL HIP HOP heads at all. If you know about REAL HIP HOP then you won't like this CD bottom line... delete

    • turftalka

There is no such thing as REAL hip hop, all hip hop is real it's a matter of mainstream and underground.

  • sheldon

good job guys,. i bet in any other genre of music they dont get hated on as much as rappers, its crazy as a people how we try to tear down our own race and criticize everything we do instead of suppoprting the hard work, very perverse thinking we have as black people. It's very sad. Jay-z and Kanye spent countless hours assembling this product , dont buy it if you don't like it , i make my own money and have a great team and support system , and wioth that you get haters because u are successful, its disgusting.

  • Anonymous

    ALBUM IS A 15 OUT OF A 10 RATING!!

  • Kaan Özel

    Great marketing by them. Congratulations

  • Ric

Why are people complaining about paying for the album. They provide a service and you pay for the product. Its like anything else. Plus the hardcopy is cool to have.

  • Anonymous

Watch the Throne drop, niggas kill theyselves

  • Can't Watch The Throne

album is overrated. nowhere near classic and it seems to be the typical brainwash of oversucking on Jay Hova's dick and giving him highly extra positive props everytime he puts an album out. Nobody is that perfectly today in the rap game. It's almost as if critics lazily put their ears into seriously listening to this album by just simply bypassing it and giving it quick positive reviews that way overrated. And Jay speaks on boom bap's return when this album is nowhere near that type of sound. This album sounds more like the typical bullshit pop house music as usual except for Otis. And why does Kanye come off looking like the black Marty Mcfly while Jay-Z plays the Emmett "Doc" Brown role from Back to the Future in that 'Otis' video if you guys ever notice that. Anyways it looks as if the throne hasn't be entirely watched because the throne doesn't even seem to be felt while listening to this album. It sounds like the throne was in a horrble experimentation when this album got created. 9th Wonder only spoke the truth about it. Plus Jay needs to not ever fuck with any form of 'Trap Muzik' ever again in his life. He needs to leave that shit to the south which is the real reason why New York been fell off. Stop using the south as a scape goat and let them do what they do best Jay. Unless your just gettin plain too old and running out of ideas quick fast for yourself.

    • NOAH DA DESTROYAH

HAHA FUCKEN HATERS...THIS IS WHAT JAY AND 'YE LOVE ABOUT THEIR WORK, THEY HAVE HATERS WATCHIN THEIR THRONE AND PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR EVERY MOVE...ITS WHAT MAKES THEM WORK HARDER AND STAY RELEVANT...WHAT A DISGRACE WHEN PEOPLE HATE ON THIS CLASSIC ALBUM...WHY DONT U GO LISTEN TO UR FAKE ACTOR DRIZZY, WEEZY THE HOMO KISSER AND IMMORTAL TEKNIQUE BITCHIN ABOUT HIS OWN SALES ON EVERY SONG..U PUSSY...

    • deaf ears

your opinion means nothign you bought the album dumb ass

    • kendrick

jay-z isnt overated if his music is as bad as u say it is he wouldnt have 11 platinum albums he spits the truth unlike the rest of these rappers n he keeps things fresh n doesnt do the same ol thing unlike most of the rapper s who have fallen off u obviously dont know greatness when u see it

    • amy may

what the fuck are you rambling about hahahahahaha u havnt got a clue mate

    • Mike

no you don't have a point. Listen to the album then cast an opinion. Track like New Day is not bragging at all about the money they have but doing the complete opposite

    • Anonymous

This has to be the dumbest comment on here.

    • Slruim

Because they're good at what they do, and I'd say earned the money. Just like America, we boast and brag because we awesome, and still get support.

    • Anonymous

      you got a point

  • maj

Watch the Throne is a celebratory album of Hip Hop. If u cant appreciate ill flow on crazy beats, then u a hater - pure & simple. I aint got problems with ppl not liking this album but i find impossible to believe that all of jay and ye's albums go platinum just because it HAS GOOD MARKETING. Ballshit, Hov especially got rap on lock and key, if he changes direction, niggers feel the need 2 hate. "Niggers want my old shit, buy my old album". Period

  • Anonymous

the throne will be getting a thousands dollars from me... CANT WAIT FOR THE TOUR... hehe......

  • Andre Cooper

The haterz can't stand it!!!! Just look at how they wanna convince you how overproduced the album is or how weak the verses are...... The comments are getting less and less from the negative.... Just wait til the numbers are officially in..... 300k-400k Keep talking haterz...Good day

  • Thomas Curry Curré

damn they crushed the old record

  • Anonymous

.4 bonus tracks .Cheaper then buying in stores .Heavily Promoted and hyped .Pre order came out awhile before release I'm not really suprised. Good for them even though I think its a bit overrated. Atleast its not Gucci Mane and Wacka Flacka's album doing these numbers.

  • Houston

The album is average in my opinion, GREAT production all da way through but when i judge da lyrics i judge it against what da artists are capable of and what they've shown....and by that basis they came weak as hell

    • Anonymous

the youth dont want to hear songs like murder to excellence because they in the streets trying to shoot each other and new day talking about father hood yeah right they want to party to coke stories and drive by shootings and becoming crack kings

@ Anonymous #2; I didn't know you could get this ish in 5.1. It'd only be worth investigating though if it was encoded in DTS. Dolby Digital sucks balls.

5.1 sound with this album is crazy its killin my subwoofer

    • Brian "dumbass" Smith

Hey, Brian... Just so you know; ITunes isn't CD quality so be careful of who you call dumbass.. I could also explain the difference between hardcopy and digital; but what's the point??? SMH..

the hard copy is digital you dumbass. same exact sound file.

im Still Waiting On PAC Classic Album Cause All Eyes On Me Wasn't Let The Nigga Rest In Peace He Was Good Not Great *point Blank*

  • L

Any of Pac's albums still destroy any of this "music" on this album. hawaiian sophie and college boy ain't bringing it....if anything s/o to the albums producers, which deserve 90% of the credit.

I LOVE AND SUPPORT HIP HOP

  • Kalin Maurice Leonard

    Love this album enough said

  • Billy Bucks

I can't get into this album. I like both of these artists, but this album is SO over produced. Also, I have never criticized Hov for his subject matter (or lack of) but this dude mentions his watch, car, house, and shopping spree on EVERY VERSE. Then he passes the mic to Kanye and he just says the same thing Hov just said in different words. I don't LOVE a single track on the entire album. C+

  • yesss

Album is alright. Not suprising that its digital sales numbers are exploding like this, good marketing strategy. Props to that.

  • Heat

Album is for grown people not little bitch ass kids like anamonous that stay on this site all day and night hating, get a life nigga and stay off the Damn computer

If you are not a hater and really like Hip-Hop and not just pretend to like it, then it is a crime to hate this album.

  • One Nation

people keep forgetting that lil kim's album "black friday", sold 128,000 copies in less than 48 hours.

    • Anthony M. DeVeaux

No, that's what she said. She never showed any proof. She sold it on Paypal and Paypal doesn't record album sales. She made a fool of herself.

    • Anonymous

fuck does that have to do with anything said in this article?

  • Anonymous

album is garbage, but I do like Niggas in Paris, and Otis tho

    • C-MACK

It's ironic that you think the album's garbage, yet the 2 songs you like have the least amount of substance?!? Give it another listen bro.

  • Rodrick

Not Surprising seeing how thats the only place you could buy it the first 4 days Still dont like this album Sounds like something Old Rich White Me would listen to at one of their Wine And Cheese Parties "Jeeves Old Boy, pass me The Grey Poupon.... Oh, and turn on that Watch the throne album, lovely stuff" Kanye West is Carlton Banks & Jay Is Uncle Phil, only thing this album is missing is a Will Smith Cameo & Jazzy Jeff gettin thrown out the door..........

    • HAHA

@Rodrick What's your point? Old white people can't listen to Hip-Hop? Music is for everybody. Age or race doesn't exclude someone from listening to it. Grow up!! Oh wait, you're probably to young to understand this project.

    • Manny

lol yup, cause old white people definitely want to hear songs like "Niggas in Paris", with topics such as getting out of the hood, black on black murder, quote such as "white america, assassinate my character", songs chalk-full of black references and last but not least, it being a hip-hop album. By no means is it an album for only black people, but old white men at cheese parties? C'mon, now, ha. Now, I may have an extreme bias because I love Jay and 'Ye's music, but one of the things I hate most is people blindly hating on something. Did you even listen to the album? If you have, you wouldn't have made that lame joke about the white cheese party. Sorry for goin' in on you there but, I'm just saaaaaying you can do beeeeeetter.

    • Cameron

Also, your name is Rodrick. Your name is too white to even be watching Fresh Prince. smh.

    • Cameron

Have you listened to the album? That comment sounded retarded. Keep watching Nick At Nite.
