Kool G. Rap Speaks On Origins Of Necro Collaboration Album, His Influences

The Juice Crew alum explains how his LP with Necro came to be.

Kool G. Rap and Necro recently announced the joint project titled The Godfathers, a project that came to fruition thanks to the latter MC. Speaking with AntiSellout, Kool G. explained that the album is in the works and that fans of both artists will be pleased.

“Necro was reaching out and then he finally reached out and connected with somebody in my camp and me and Necro had a meeting, we sat down and we talked and we agreed on doing this project and we still in the process of completion to the project,” he said. “Everything has been going good. I’ve been doing it with him. I think very highly of Necro, as far as his lyrical capability. It’s going to be hot. I think the fans are going to really appreciate it. Me and Necro have a very sort of similar fan base, because of the type of rap artists that we are.”

The Juice Crew alum also spoke on his influences, explaining that even though he was one of the foundation MCs in Hip Hop, he still molded his style by listening to other artists.

“It’s a combination of people with me. It’s Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel and Silver Fox,” he continued. “I think when G. Rap really developed into this style that he would be legendary with, it was a combination of all those different artists, all combined in one. The storytelling might have come from a Grandmaster Caz influence. Dealing with real life issues, street life in particular, came from a Melle Mel influence. The sounding intelligent and coming across intelligent and to make sense with what I spit came from a Kool Moe Dee influence. Flow-wise, to have my flow not be the ordinary A-B-C kind of flow but to be technical and have different paths, twists and turns in it, that came from a Silver Fox influence.”

anyone who knows Necro's beats know if Necro is producing this, this is going to be one fucking sick album, G Raps flow is nowhere near what it used to be but Necro's beats manage to possess rappers, i really think if necro brings out sick beats this album is gonna be dope

lol, anyone saying 456 wasn't ill is an idiot. Ta'll musta missed Take Em To War, Executioner Style, Fast Life, with Nas, etc. G Rap is STILL one of the most talented lyricists, RIGHT NOW. Slow? Dudes ridiculously fast still dropping multies and internals rapid fire. He was outrhyming most of the cats today in 1995. And fake mafia bullshit? How can you dig his first 3 albums then say that? You never heard "On The Run" before? Hip hop that sells now is not lyrical and real heads don't check for it. Teenage girls make up the most buying power, stay cosigning them. Herb.

That's the problem with HipHop. Rappers who made great albums 20 years ago get still praised like kings, even when they clearly aren't capable of doing anything that's half as good as what they did back then. His last album was straight whack and I'm/was one of his greatest fans.

    • else3573

G Rap at "half as good" is better then most MC's NOW other than RA the Rugged Man, Kno from Typical cats, Corey Gunnz, Elzhi, etc. There's no mainstream heads that are nice lyrically anymore, the last one was Em and Big Pun, and Em fell off. G Rap is still one of the most technically proficient MC of all time, and better than %90 of the dudes out now. I can't fathom a G Rap fan saying shit like that. 456 was fire, that wasn't 20 years ago. His shit with RA the Rugged man wasn't either. I guess Masta Ace is wack now too.. lol.

    • shane

straight wack what kind of drugs are you on i mean it wasn't official but it was better than most cds that come out still. the song with mobb deep alone makes your comment wrong.

  • Weiner DelVecchio

Necro is the most underrated lyricist of all time. Beats wise, he's right there with GZA or any other east coast legend. If you don't like Necro, you're either a pussy who gets offended and can't take a joke or doesnt really like underground hip hip. Now go back to your house and bump drake and little wayne-o and young jeezy. LONG LIVE NECRO

  • The B

KOOL G. RAP is the most lyrical, versitile, original wordsmith there ever was and probably ever will be. Fuck pussy ass album sales, that doesn't make you the best! Every ill lyricist to date (very few nowadays) has been highly influenced by this guy. He's monumental in every aspect of lyricism. The muthafucka's incredible point blank!!!! For those who don't know, do your history!! Fuck this new age shit. This new age shit needs it's own title, because it aint hiphop(rap music)!!!!!!

    • else3573

@Anonymous, you saying "Nathaniel" like you just looked his name up on Wiki or some shit duke. No hip hop heads call him that. He's G Rap. And he's been making mafioso rap since the jump. "I got a job from the mob makin g's" on Live and Let Die. He's east coast gangsta rap. He always has been. He's NEVER rapped slow a day in his life, and 456 was full of bangers. You're just a herb that obviously digs souljah boi and other teenage girl music.

    • THE DON GIANCANA-LIVING LEGEND-ILLEST LYRICIST OF ALL TIMES

@Anonymous: I bet you are a Bieber fan. Fast, young, and full of energy... Just stop drooling under every comments, you dickhead!

    • Anonymous

BULLSHIT. If you're talking the three albums with DJ Polo then yes, Nathaniel was the complete MC. Afterwards, he was FAKE ASS gangster, FAKE mafia bullshit, slow. tired. dumb. horse. If you tell me there's no difference between those two artists then you never fucking LISTENED in the first place, douche.

  • Rodrick

Meh, I'd rather here a G Rap album produced by Necro I dont care who co signs him, Necro gets on my nerves, not gonna check for this

  • Patrick Soriano

Are they talking about Necro the crazy ass white rapper, who raps about death and sex, and now has his own porn production company?

    • Plrlcnfyl Promtions

@PATRICK SORINO THE ONE AND ONLY NECRO FOOL! SEE WHAT SOME OF YALL DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THAT KOOL G RAP AND NECRO ARE BOTH PART OF A MOVEMENT, THE YOUNG KIDS THAT KNOW KOOL G RAP, HATS OFF TO U. SEE SOME OF US LISTEN TO MUSIC THINK WE KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FROM SHIT BUT,BY THE MAIN STREAM U CAN SEE MOST HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE. WHEN U TAKE A LEGEND LIKE KOOL G RAP, ONE OF NECRO'S FAV'S AND MINE FROM BACK IN THE DAY, THIS MAN KOOL G PIONEERED GANSTA RAP, AND YOU ADD THAT TO NECRO A MAN WHO AS A CHILD PERFORMED WITH HIS BROTHER ILL BILL, LIVE WITH METAL BANDS. WHO MADE HIS OWN GENRE OF MUSIC, KNOWN TO PLR FANS AS DEATH RAP, WHO ALSO HAS MADE HIS OWN BEATS AND PRODUCED GREATS LIKE NON-PHIXION AND CIRCLE OF TYRANTS, YOU PUT THESE TWO LEGENDS TOGETHER AND WATCH THE FUXXING MAGIC HAPPEN! I KNOW FOR A FACT THESE TWO HAVE BEEN PULLING MAD STUDIO TIME AND THE RESULTS ARE GOING TO BLOW THE FUCXING ROOF OFF!!! Necro ** MIGHT ** be able resurrect Nathaniel but I'm not betting on it. Nathaniel hasn't done SHIT worthwhile since what... 1991? True "Live And Let Die" was fucking astounding but it's been a long-ass way down ever since. As long as Necro gets Nathaniel away from the fake 'mafia' shit, there's hope. If not, then not.

  • Nico 3

Would crush any emcee now? lol G Rap's latest album didn't even chart. He's dead. He's like your grandfather's favorite gangster rapper. Older than reruns of Good Times.

    • else3573

WTF does charting have to do with lyricism? RA the Rugged Man, Elzhi and Corey Gunz would murk Souljah Boi or Drake in a f'ing millisecond, yet who sells more. You don't understand the market and who's targeted. Battle rappers would destroy any mainstream MC in a battle. Put cats like Iron Solomon, Math, Conceited, Lux, etc. up against any of these dudes, they'd get embarrased. G Rap spits hotter lyrics than basically any mainstream rapper out, STILL, at his age. Guaranteed you don't know what a multi is and you've never listened to tracks like Fast life with Nas or Executioner Style. Sales don't equate to talent, that's why Lady Gaga and American Idol flunkies rule the charts while dudes like Elzhi don't sell.

    • ^^dudes a FAAAAAGGGGG

big sean charted. kool g rap would fucking MELT that faggot. you kids sit around talking bout "who's got the most swag" and "who sold the most records". kool g rap fans appreciate HIP HOP. not the commerical ball of shit it's morphed into.

  • Anonymous

One of the most skilled rappers to ever grace the mic. Absolutely amazing! Can't wait for that album.

  • mafias0

THESE ARE THE TALES OF DON G RAP. THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME. would crush any emcee in the 80's and would crush any emcee now. KGR saying necro is a serious word smith gotta hurt every necro hater out there. this is g rap bigging up someones pen game. necro been official, his beats been offical, this album is not gonna be for the kids calling radio stations asking angie to play some bullshit. this is for the niggas stuck wearing timbs, stuck smoking blunts, that don't know what to make of the faggot shit poppin in rap today. it's a damn shame g rap's latest album is getting slept on so hard, it's incredible. no gimmicks. just dope ass music with no marketing ploy or desperate twitter wars. you don't get rewarded for being real, if you did, G RAP would be the one calling shots from the top. KOOL G forever.

    • Plrlcnfyl Promtions

YOU KNOW KOOL G RAP AND NECRO WILL KILL THIS SHIT, FOR HOMIE TALKING LIKE U KNOW THEM, I KNOW YOU WOULDN'T BE IN KOOL G'S FACE TALKING THAT SHIT, CUZ U WOULD GET DELT WITH SAME FOR NECRO HATERS. THESE TWO MOTHERFUXXERS PUT IT DOWN! AND IF U TALK LIKE UR BIG AND BAD UNDER A PEN NAME AKA ANON... IT MEANS UY SIR ARE A PUSSY...SO WE DON'T DEAL WITH PUSSIES. WHY DON'T YOU PUT ON YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES THEN COME BACK TO PLAY OK? WE R LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET TO HEAR TWO LEGENDS PUT IT DOWN TOGETHER, IT'S GONNA GET FUCKING CRAZY!!!! BRACE YOURSELVES!!! ~TEE

    • Anonymous

You're an idiot. G Rap can't even crush a cockroach slow-- slow, tired, cliched, FAKE and d-u-m-b... Everything he ** WASN'T ** on his first three great albums.

  • insanemacbeth

    long live THE DON GIANCANA!

    • insanemacbeth

@ANONYMOUS ^^^^^^^^^^^^, why are you calling G. RAP NATHANIEL, like you know him, personally??? i communicate with G. RAP, and i don't call him by his born name. s.m.h. at the lack of respect!

    • Anonymous

Are you insane? Nathaniel looks like he's been drunk for 20 years and you're treating him like black 'mafia'? Grow the fuck up.

    • Doubl Negative

I concur with all three dudes above me, although I'm more into Necro for his beats.
