Cee Lo Green Says He "Didn't Love” Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Otis,” Praises Drake

The Lady Killer explains that the expectations are too high for the duo to match, though the track might have served a greater purpose for their cause.

Jay-Z and Kanye West drew critical acclaim for their latest leak “Otis” off the upcoming Watch the Throne LP, but Cee Lo Green wasn’t the biggest fan. Speaking with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez, the Lady Killer explained that the expectations are so high that it’s impossible to live up to the hype.

“I didn’t love it. You know what? I think it did what it’s supposed to do. It’s supposed to come across like a trailer to it,” he said, veering away from a negative direction. “You know what? Instead of me being critical, I can just say I love Jay. I love Kanye, and I especially love them together. You almost kind of think it’s a sure thing, but on a realistic expectation... And I think a song like that can help diffuse it and bring it back down to where it’s realistic again. Chances are, they’re going to come back with something that’s right on the money.”

He also sounded off on Drake, explaining that he’s got nothing but love for the Young Money rapper. “I love Drake! I love him in general. I think he’s a young hopeful. I told him that directly,” he continued.

Why are they even talking to Cee-Lo about this. Who cares about his opinion, he sold out if you ask me a long time ago and knows it, saying he misses his hip hop roots, then get back to them. Anything for money, makes me sick.

  • bios

This dude is a real artist, whereas Kayne is all style, no substance, and Jay is just a business man. They aren't in Cee lo's league.

  • Mr Flamboyant

(shaking my head) Cee-Lo disappointed me with this bull. Man just say the ish was wack and keep it moving. Don't wanna have those two shut down your plugs in the music biz, huh? Man what the frigg? I don't understand it. Sad day indeed.

  • Aylife

I agree with Cee-lo it was an opening it sounds like a teaser track, the expectations are so high on this. As far as the neg comments people are hating just to hate it's easier lazier and makes people feel secure with themselves to hate on someone else smh-find your own success and stop hatin on someone elses if you don't like the song leave it at that. fuckin grown ups.

Ceelo will out rap jay-z if it came down to him makin rap records

  • mcfly

Cee is absolutely right as far as "Otis" goes, i was expecting a bonkers track considering that it was Jay and Kanye and an Otis Redding sample I thought oh shitt this thing is gunna be insane. Then I heard it and i was like meh whats all the hype its a regular track not even all that catchy not a single punchline stood out to me I honestly expected more considering how sick there previous collabos have been. As far as Cee's opinion on Drake i dunno i think Drake's an actor that needs to leave hip hop to the real artists and say artist not wack ass niggas that found a niche in this bullshit popgangstarap shit I'm looking at you Kahlifa, Wayne, and all you other fools that claim to be "real thugs" instead of concentrating on your music.

  • Mylie

i agree with Cee-Lo Kanye and Jay-Z are LEGENDS and some of my favourite artists staying true to hip hop. bt Otis was very underwelming lets be honest. i expect nothing but greatness from the next leak.

    • Rival X Jordan

The track went in to me. I don't really care what this nigga says. Ain't really going change my feeling towards it.

  • trice

He's absolutely right! Otis is not a great song or an Epic song, It's a great sample, and it's anticipated b/c the popularity of Jay & Ye.
