Jay Rock is gearing up to release his label debut Follow Me Home on July 26th, but it’s been a long journey to get there. Following a split with Warner Bros. Records, the Watts, California native explained why he decided to sign with the house that Tech N9ne built.
“Everybody kind of knew my situation that I had with Warner Bros. I was on Warner Bros. for a minute,” he told Brooklyn Martino. “At the time, we had the record [“All My Life”
After splitting with Warner, Jay Rock fielded several label offers, but decided to go with Strange Music based on how Tech N9ne was feeling his movement.
“It’s crazy how Tech N9ne was back home in L.A. He knew about my situation, what I was doing, trying to find other labels. He used to always call. ‘Let me know what’s up, man. We got room for you over here,’” he continued. “We appreciated it. Like I said, Strange Music, we had other labels on the table, but Strange Music had the best offer because it’s all about the fans.”
