Billboard.com’s “The Juice” recently caught up with rising Southern star Big K.R.I.T. to discuss his critically acclaimed release Return of 4eva. During the interview, the Mississippi born producer and emcee broke down his extensive wishlist of hopeful musical collaborators.
K.R.I.T., who’s already worked with a variety of other emcees like Ludacris, Bun B, Curren$y and many more, named a number of musicians spanning a multitude of genres with whom he;s interested in collaborating. Apart from other Hip Hop acts, including Kanye West and Andre 3000, K.R.I.T. named Coldplay, Al Green and indie soul revivalists Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings as hopeful musical partners.
“There’s a lot of people I really want to work with,” K.R.I.T. said. “There’s Andre 3000, Cee-Lo Green. I want to be able to work with Sharon Jones [and the Dap-Kings]. I want to work with Coldplay…One Republic, I definitely want to work with those bands, Death Cab for Cutie, and Timbaland and Kanye West. Al Green, to be able to do a song with him would be dope.”

K.R.I.T. also discussed his process as a producer. He explained that while he’s looking to expand his repertoire, he likes sticking to the basics of sampling to start out. At the same time, however, K.R.I.T. says that there’s only so much a beat can evoke without any lyrics.
“For me, I just want to be quality,” he explained. “It’s always quality of quantity, and I really want to be timeless music. I want to be able to just go far…beyond as far a composition [is concerned]…as far as [my] process goes, I really enjoy just sitting down, starting with a drum kit or a sample and kind of building from there. I think words touch people in a different way. A beat can be only so jamming, but without words and lyrical content, you lose something.”
