2 Live Crew's Luther "Luke" Campbell Loses Mayoral Bid

Following his campaign for mayor in Miami-Dade County, the 50-year-old bows places fourth in the polls.

After campaigning for the past few months, Luther “Luke” Campbell is out of the running in the bid for Miami-Dade mayor. The former 2 Live Crew member landed in fourth place in the polls with 20,663 votes, or 11 percent, disqualifying him from participating in the June 28th election.

While disheartened by the loss, he didn’t lose his drive run for mayor next year. “This is just an appetizer. This is just the beginning,” he said, commended for securing a large percentage of black votes. “We can still run in 2012 and win this thing.”

During his campaign, he promised that if elected, he would propose a tax on adult entertainers and proposed the legalization of small amounts of marijuana. He also tackled health care and housing for local residents who were in need of assistance.

His history as a member of 2 Live Crew seemed like an obstacle at first, but he based his entire campaign around his commitment. "I'm dead serious. I mean, that's my campaign slogan," he said at the time. "The reason why I'm getting into this race is because Dade county politics is Banana Republican. When I look at the other ten candidates, I see that I need to be the person running for mayor to represent my city."

not surprised. not saying he wouldn't be a good mayor...there are plenty mayors that came from unusual backgrounds that have served as mayors. it would be quite interesting to see him prevail.
