This afternoon, Queens, New York emcee Consequence appeared on MTV’s Rap Fix Live. Hosted by Sway Calloway, the veteran told live viewers that he’s no longer affiliated with G.O.O.D. Music, who released Cons’ first solo album, Don’t Quit Your Day Job in 2007. Additionally, the onetime member of A Tribe Called Quest stated that he’s longer professionally affiliated with the group’s founding member, Q-Tip, who is Consequence’s blood cousin.

Both Kanye West and Q-Tip were said to be executive producing Consequence’s sophomore solo album, Cons TV, which had been planned for release on Universal Motown Records since 2009.

Among Consequence’s many notable comments and accusations, the emcee called himself “the glue” within A Tribe Called Quest on the group’s fourth album, 1996’s Beats, Rhymes, and Life, which was during the period in which Cons was a member. Specifically, Consequence claimed that he calmed tensions between group members Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Watching the streamable interview, Q-Tip reacted via Twitter with, “GLUE? I gave the nigga a look.” The quote, directed at Consequence, refers to ATCQ’s including the aspiring, teenaged emcee on their 1993 b-side single “The Chase,” as well as later opportunities.

Subsequently, Q-Tip publicly apologized to MTV Rap Fix Live’s host Sway Calloway (on Twitter) for his cousin’s behavior. The emcee/producer, who just yesterday, was announced as a headliner to the seventh annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, also refuted additional comments Consequence made in the segment. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” tweeted a clearly frustrated Q-Tip.
