OFWGKTA All Bypass Major Labels For Sony Distribution, Signing Themselves

After months of major labels trying to sign OFWGKTA, the group sign themselves and may start Odd Future Records.

While rumors have been buzzing about different major labels fighting for OFWGKTA (a/k/a Odd Future) to sign on the dotted line, it seems the group has decided to "sign themselves." Reports indicate that Odd Future Records will sign with RED Distribution/Sony.

OFWGKTA's manager, Chris Clancy replied to Rap Radar when pressed for comment about the group's deal.

“It’s based on getting the distribution deal we’ve always envisioned that allows the group to 'sign themselves' to their own company and keep their masters. They will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business. Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that it's in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works..  It’s about to be fun.. and different.. “

Tyler, the Creator spoke on this also. Through his Twitter page, Tyler gave more details on the matter noting that Odd Future will have a label but that they will remain in-house.

Ya'll can go support a bunch of kids with 666 all over the place if you want to. Them dudes tumblr site says "kill your family". That ain't hip hop.

    • Degausser

I agree with essex, that shit is garbage not music. Hip hop isn't dead motherfuckers peoples judgement is

    • Anonymous

Oh shut up Essex.. You probably ride Eminem's dick.. And that fool was way worse when he first came out..

    • B@nksy

yeah im cool with it. like if I like their music it doesn't matter too me. If a Kid read a tumblr post that says "kill your parents" and decides to or considers doing it then hiphop isn't the genre for him. I suggest Taylor swift for a kid like that. When Tyler makes a song about killing of parents or kidnapping a girl hes telling a story, its like an audio movie. Do you see the fucked up things in movies? Its art get over it, who said art has to be pretty or beautiful?. Too each their own though.

    • Essex

So, your cool with them telling kids to go kill their parents? WTF! How is that cool?

    • B@nksy

you interpret there music too literally. Tyler isn't a satanist he just hates religion. SO he does intentional things to piss ppl off and it pretty much works. Its entertainment if you would just pay attention too the lyrics and beats you would recognize the dopeness in their music. I geuss you think Eminem isnt HipHop too then?

  • OFWGKTADGAF

Theyre young but theyre not stupid the best example of not having 100 creative control is Lupe Fiasco's "LASERS" done. i mean the music dont suck but its not want lupe wants not his producers .....he had NO say in it he even say he hates that album and the process of it ..making an album is supposed to be fun

nice deal and they say L D kids cant make good moves!!

  • Essex

If you guys think that they are doing this cause they want to your crazy. Them labels called, told them boys well sign you for this?.... They said we want more and they said kick rocks. simple.

    • kaos

Look what happened when Lupe didn't have complete creative control...we got Lasers.

are you an idiot? Im not a fan of them in the slightest but the deal they have is better than what any of those majors wouldve given them. Wanting more doesnt always include wanting more money. They may have wanted more in the sense of wanting %100 creative control. Unless all of your favorite rappers are underground or are JayZ, Eminem, Snoop, Kanye, Ludacris, or Wayne, then they most likely dont have %100 creative control. I can go on and on about how this deal is better than any deal those majors wouldve given them. Ask the lox, if they knew what they know now, when they first signed, they wouldve jumped at this deal.

Like it or not...these kids are making original music and getting shine without being on someone's dick for a cosign. I'm still not even sure how much I like their music...but the creativity is needed in the game right now.

  • fivstar

you are the epitome of a "hater" seriously these kids arent rich, there just smart ass niggas. tyler got record labels in twist! they'll literally do ANYTHING to sign them. and fuck all yall niggas saying these kids are the worst thing to happen to hiphop. HIP-HOP NEEDED THIS! ask mos, talib and questlove. these kids are CREATIVE and most importantly...ORIGINAL.

  • yaah muh

This fool's twitter thumbnail picture annoys the hell outta me...nigga posin' at the camera with his mouth wide open full of food...bunch of unusual kids.....

  • Christopher English

Love or hate them.. you can't deny they're business moves!

  • Hmm

Despite the fact they're a bunch of spoonfed, satanists, I like them. This is a very smart move on their part. Hopefully they keep making gritty music because the first time I hear them turn pop, they're off my playlist for good. I think Odd Future is just a preview of the inevitable change in music, from pop to more down to earth music. It happened in the 90s with rap and rock, it's bound to happen again soon. Disco died, big hair bands died, MC Hammer died, and when this pesudo-80's pop bullshit will start to die soon as well. Seriously, has there ever been so much of a gray area between Pop-Rock-Rap? They all sound the same to me. Whether it's Kanye West, Lady GaGa, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Britney Spears, Eminem, or the rock band of the week, they're all a bunch of douchey haircut, skinny jean wearing, rhinestone having, cocksuckers. Every song sounds the same and it's all lacking in creativity.

  • charles manson

cant wait for these dudes to fall off the face of the earth.

  • O

A Bunch Of Rich Kids Start A Record Label. Next.

    • Swagg

      There not rich dumbass.! wth?

    • Anonymous

Another hater puts in his useless two cents...NEXT

    • Logic

So the size of an artist's wallet determines whether you will give their music a chance? I honestly think some fools want artists to remain broke and struggling. I don't understand why the money these mans had/parents had has any bearing on their music. Knock their lyrics/beats if you want to complain. But to hate on their growing bank accounts is foolish. You must despise every rapper with a chain or hotter woman than you got.

  • G-zus

They ve had a buzz and they used it right. Much props to them.

  • SODMG

They sold out. Soulja Boy's the only mc still brining creativity without selling out to the labels.

  • Preno

These guys are going to change the game in every aspect possible!!

    • Anonymous

No, they arent. All they did was sign the right deal and put out grimey music different from most music in the mainstream. nothing to make a big deal out of though.
