Atlanta emcee Pill is looking to raise his profile after a successful run that saw him rise from a regional star as an affiliate with Killer Mike’s Grind Time imprint. Just over a year ago, Pill solidified himself as a marketable soloist by inking a deal with Warner/Asylum. After agreeing to join Wale and Meek Mill at Rick Ross’ Maybach Music label in February, Pill explained what joining the roster meant to him.

“It’s an honor being part of MMG,” Pill said in a video blog shot by Maybach’s Dre Films. “Seeing what Ross did with his movement. I said, ‘It’s only right that I make that next step.’”

In addition to rhyming over unorthodox choices such as “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” by Destiny’s Child and Pill developed a chemistry with Grade A Muzik. He said that an appreciation for being able to select top quality production also factored into his decision.

“I remember listening to all of [Ross’] shit and being like, ‘Man how the fuck does he pick those beats?’ I don’t got that formula, and it’s only right that you put Pill with the formula, and let my formula combine with it. Then we’ll go on and take it to the sky. There’s no time to waste.”

Pill added that he’s already shot a video for the track “Get Your Roll On.” In addition to his efforts with Maybach Music Group, Pill will reportedly join Big Boi and Killer Mike in a collaborative album.
