Released earlier this year, Gil Scott Heron’s latest album, I’m New Here found the poet/singer/author experimenting with production, and reaching new audiences. Working with Mos Def, Nas and Kanye West later this week, the iconic writer of “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” has had an epic year in a career that dates back to the late 1960s.

Now it’s been announced that London, England Indie Rock outfit The xx will remix I Am New Here for February 16, 2011 release. The trio’s leader, Jamie won over both XL Records’ owner and original album producer Richard Russell, as well as Heron.

Russell also premiered the first sampling of Jamie xx’s reworking of the album, in the video single to “New York Is Killing Me.”
