Mos Def Turns G.O.O.D?, Kanye West To Executive Produce John Legend's Next LP

Mos Def is rumored to have signed with G.O.O.D. Music, while the label's owner, Kanye West, will produce John Legend's upcoming album.

The Clipse's Pusha T may not be the only acquisition G.O.O.D. Music has come across in the last few months. According to the latest issue of XXL featuring Kanye West on the cover, Mos Def has also signed to the record label. According to the feature, "Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the G.O.O.D. Music fold."

'Ye teamed up with Mos on his debut album College Dropout, on the single "Two Words."

In other G.O.O.D. news, Kanye West will be executive producing John Legend's next album. The LP will be Legend's fourth solo album. This is not the first time the two have worked together. Their collaboration also dates back to College Dropout.

"I also worked on Kanye's album a little bit, on the 'Power' remix and other stuff," Legend told Billboard magazine. "But God only knows what Kanye is actually going to put on the album and what's going to be on the other five-song album he's putting out."

Legend's album does not yet have a release date.

I like the sound of this, I hope it happens. All we need now is Lupe on G.O.O.D and we'd be set.

  • Wu-Tang Forever

It was only a matter of time before Mos got with G.O.O.D. Kweli is next (hopefully)

Holy Shit this is big news!!!! This is like Lebron signing with the heat!!!! If this is true, I actually like this for Mos. It gives him pretty much exclusive beats from a solid producer. This could also spell the beginnings of a Black Star album or a new group. Mos, Kanye, Common, and Kewli!!!!! That would be Historic. This is big news though. The boom bap is coming back in 2011!!!!!

Record Sales do not make you a great MC!!! I wish we would get away from this. Mos-Def's signing to Kanye's label raises an eyebrow for me. I'm glad we'll get to potentially hear some new music, but I hope he doesn't allow Kanye to produce the whole album.

I just want something that can trump Black on Both Sides. That is still his best album to me and his others can't compare.

i respect how kanye is using his popularity to promote actual hiphop instead of just pushing product on the masses like CMYM

Anything to make Mos put out another album, Ecstatic was great.

Good shit. Mos is established though so still a tad questionable. He had a gold album before Kanye was relevant

    • Wu-Tang Forever

I think Ecstatic sold around 65-70K copies. Not as many as before. But we are in a recession and a time of Internet piracy, when BOBS dropped in '99 and went gold, these 2 things weren't an issue.

While that's true, Kanye's been having plat albums while much did Estatic even sell? I think it's a great idea nevertheless.
