Legendary Mt. Vernon, New York producer/deejay/emcee Pete Rock has long been credited as an influence to Kanye West. The man who produced Hip Hop classics such as “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” for his partner CL Smooth has reportedly contributed work to Kanye West’s upcoming Dark Twisted Fantasy, along with fellow ’80s and ’90s New York Hip Hop production luminaries DJ Premier and Q-Tip.
West has now claimed that Pete Rock, who’s supplied hits to artists such as Ghostface Killah, Freddie Foxxx, Nas and Rahzel is a producer on Watch The Thrown, the collaborative EP between Kanye and mentor Jay-Z. While Pete Rock has yet to speak on the matter, West also said that Oxnard, California producer Madlib may also be a producer on the EP.
We got new Pete Rock Joints on the Watch the Thrown album… Q Tip joints… We bout to spit on this Madlib beat
In the same tweet, West confirmed that Q-Tip would also be involved.
Known for his many incarnations such as Yesterday’s New Quintet, Quasimoto and the Beat Konducta, the Stones Throw Records artist and Lootpack member has previously worked with Erykah Badu, MF DOOM, Talib Kweli and De La Soul.
Neither Madlib or Pete Rock has previously produced for Jay-Z. Q-Tip provided vocals to Jay-Z’s 2001 track “Girls, Girls, Girls,” though the song was produced by Just Blaze.
