Rapper Murs has joined forces with comic book publisher Josh Blaylock to create an online comic book series via Merch-Girl.com.
The series, which officially launched in April, is titled MerchGirl: The Curse of Yumiko Morales. The comic chronicles the tale of Yumiko Morales, a young girl who encounters strange events while on tour with her boyfriend’s band, “Murder Acts.”
To accompany the comic book series, Murs and producer Foundation are creating 10 original songs to go with each chapter.
“Murs and I came up with the initial concept and plot together,” said Blaylock, who met the rapper at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles. “I came up with the script for the comic and Murs added his creative touch.”
Also contributing to the effort are illustrator Jose Garcia and colorist Juan Urueta.
“Because I am on the road touring so often, I wanted to tell a story about the most overlooked, yet one of the most important people on tour — the merch girl!” said Murs of the comic’s inspiration. “I thought, ‘Why not combine two of my favorite things: comics and music.'”
Fans can check the comic online at Merch-Girl.com. A print version along with the soundtrack will be eventually be available.
