Antoine Fuqua Confirms Tupac Biopic

The Training Day director's next project will be about the life of rapper Tupac.

In a recent interview with DigitalSpy.com, Antoine Fuqua confirmed that his next movie will be a biopic about rapper Tupac.

According to the Training Day director, the project has been greenlit by Morgan Creek chairman James G. Robinson, and will begin filming later this year.

"It looks like we're doing Tupac Shakur's movie next in September, that's what I've been starting up and working on now," said Fuqua. "I've been working on that for a while with Morgan Creek and Jim Robinson. I just got the greenlight from him and we're going in September. I've just started to prep that."

"That's the goal, I want to discover someone new," said Fuqua, who wants an unknown to play the late rapper. "I want to discover a lot of new people if I can. Obviously I'm going to have to put some people in it that you know, just because actors have different skills. I want to go to the streets and find him anywhere he might be in the world."

I would just like the role of Tupac to be done with justice to what this man actually represented. I do believe that my fiance is the closest "Tupac" you will find. The man who plays this part not only has to capture his prophetic ways of moving and thinking.... he has to look like him.... charm like him.... and lead like him..... Please take the time to CHECK OUT MY FIANCES WEBSITE!!!! ANY FEEDBACK IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!!! Http://Tim4Tupac.webs.com JLiebnitz@sprint.blackberry.net

This Tupac movie sounds insane. I wonder how much of a line he'll cross in showing the day-to-day of his life, especially when he first signed on to DR. personally, I can't wait for his next project hittin this year called "After Dark." not so much action but its expected to be one of his best story telling projects

  • Drucifer1983

At least they picked a good Director, thats a start........Cant wind up worse then Notorious, I really didnt like that much, sorry ya'll

  • big braveheart

Who could play Pac really? Anthony Mackie wasn't too bad in Notorious, has to somebody young but at the same time very talented and also a recognized and good actor, it's a difficult one to cast. Shock G : Jeffrey Wright Suge : Michael Clarke Duncan? Frank Alexander : Dennis Haysbert ? Afeni Shukur : CCH Pounder ? Hope they get the right actors and this is a fitting tribute!

    • Wankirby

dud u just pulled those names outta your ass. NOT ONE of the actors you picked look like the people they will be portraying. GTF!!! please. Jeffery Wright as Shock G?!?!? CCH Pounder as Afeni?!?!? LMMAO dude ur a dumbass

Antoine Fuqua is no joke..everyone should be happy that hes directing this movie! He makes all his movies gritty and exciting..very street and raw..seriously if its any director..its Fuqua! he has a lot of material to work with, I believe in this project..cant wait!

  • kneegrow

watch dem taint pac's legacy with more money making sht. get off his dead dck already

  • nastynas4life

an actual movie would be dope..just that it better not be like Notorious, where half of the movie is just about how Biggie and pac feuded..

  • Menace2AG

PLEASE NOOOOOOO ANTHONY MACKIE PLEASEEEEEEEEEE NOOOO i dont have a propblem with him in fact i think he did a good job in street ball movie but he in my opinion was the worst portrayer in notorious every one played they role great but i wass really really disappointed how he played tupac and he didnt even look like him come on IF YOU GONNA GET SOMEONE GET SOMEONE WHO CAN DO WHAT RAPPERGGRAVY DID TO BIG MADE US ALL THINK THAT WAS HIM BY LOOKS AND PERSONALTY

  • N.Dastardly

Playin with some exclusive fire here.... Fuqua better not fuck this up. Yea Training day was great. But the odds, I feel, are stacked high and well. He wants to set out and find an unknown actor which is something I totally agree with cause Anthony Mackie, no disrespect, just wasnt cuttin it. Biggies movie was rushed anyway. That coulda been way better. But not to stray from the point.. not only has he got to find somebody that can act, he gotta find somebody who can really rap and do those lyrics justice. whether it's from "Minnie the moocher" or "Holla if ya hear me.." This just HAS to be done right. He better have Ms. Afeni right there along on those casting calls cause who better to say "yea he'll do." I wonder how much input she got in on this project?.. This sounds good in writing and in talk, but will it reign true?

    • Menace2AG

I COMPETELY AGREE WITH EVERY WORD U SAID this is more then a movie like training day this is fooling around one of the most known nation wide name of hip hop he is folling with super hot fire he has to have his mom there because lok wat biggie mom did she had a guy by the name of gravy WHO PLAYED AND LOOKED LIKE BIGGIE 100% i dont think there was any one better for that role ill be very very very pissed if he dont let afeni shakur pick who plays tupac no one else ANTONIE let afeni shakur pick who plays tupac no one else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Snoopy7

Idk if Anthony Macky who played 2Pac in "Notorious" would reprise his role but if they got a total unknown to capture Pac's character that would be something. Macky played Pac well but an unknown could deliver the right lines would be surprising. They got a N.W.A and Run-D.M.C. biopic in the works too

  • verge

if its anything like Notorious, then they shouldn't do it at all... but if it has to be made, the only person i see playin pac on the big screen is The Realest, cuz he sounds just like him.

  • aliciasw

  • SRU

I thought this director was going to shoot the Pablo Escobar movie

  • icu ucme

No disrespect to Big or the movie "Notorious", but Tupac's life was much more compelling. From him growing up with the Black panthers, to the constant moving(i.e. New York, Baltimore, Oakland, etc.), to him being shot and left for dead in a studio, to his rape/sexual assault trial & conviction, to his untimely death, and on and on and on. Plus, on top of that, he was and still is the Greatest Rapper of All Time. The man died at 25 years old, to me, this was the biggest tragedy in music history.

    • icu ucme

@RIVAL X---shorty, when Tupac died, you was 8 or 9 years old, WTF do you know about it nigga? NOTHING!

    • Rival X

get the fuck out of here 2pac's life wasn't like a fucking movie. That was fake ass nigga.

    • Grizzle

Yo, there's always hope for deleted scenes in the director's cut.

    • MalcolmLittle

Agreed...also no disrespect to Biggie, but the story of his come up today simply ain't that unique. A hustler who just happened to know how to rap and the right ears heard it (I use the word "right" very loosely in reference to Puff). Ain't that the alleged backstory of 99% of mainstream Hip-Hop now?? 'Pac, HE got a real story behind his legacy, for all the reasons you mentioned above. Aside from pickin the right actor to portray him, my main concern is how they're gonna be able to fit all those different aspects of his life into the length of a movie. They could go for a 3-hour joint like the Malcolm X movie, but let's just be real; the average muthafucka in 2010 don't have the attention span required to sit thru a 3-hour movie. Nonetheless, I can't wait to see how this turns out!

    • Best Rappers

EXCATLY, 2pac Life was like a movie, but it was his real life, and u forgot, 2pac shooting the corupt cop in his ass, they gotta put that in the movie.

  • Rival X

if they do this movie they better keep it real.

    • Rival X

2pac was hot the Pre-Deathrow era. I'm talking about 2paclypse Now, Strictly For My Niggaz, and Me Against The World. After that he became a fake ass nigga when he sold his soul for a dollar.

    • Imran

Dude pac was as real as they as they get. His influence was and still is felt down here in Southern Africa. not like da pop corn rap dem dudes are churning out in states these days
