Writer Andrea Berloff Signs On For N.W.A. Movie

"World Trade Center" writer Andrea Berloff will pen the upcoming N.W.A. movie, "Straight Outta Compton."

Andrea Berloff, one of the writers behind the Oliver Stone movie World Trade Center, has signed on to write Straight Outta Compton. Straight Outta Compton is a film that will document the rise and fall of iconic Hip Hop group N.W.A.

Hollywood Reporter reports that the film will be produced by Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez of Cube Vision as well as Eazy-E 's widow Tomica Wood.

News of a possible film about N.W.A. was first reported over a year ago with some reports stating that former 8 Mile director Curtis Hanson would be directing the film.

Aside from writing the script for World Trade Center, Berloff also wrote The Refugees a film about a group of international refugee soccer kids who move to Atlanta.

It is still unclear when production for Straight Outta Compton will begin.

Formed in the mid 80’s, N.W.A. gained notoriety for their controversial subject matter but still went on to sell millions of records. The group eventually disbanded in the early 90’s.

N.W.A. is too legendary. Who will play these guys parts??? Ice Cube played as who? DR. Dre played by ______? MC Ren ain't playing himself! Yella nope, hes busy making pornos. Nobody can play Eazy-E that guy broke the mold when he was born! I just don't see it. I'd love to see it done well/ excellently. I don't want them to make it if it isn't done perfectly.

The best director for this would be Oliver Stone, but i agree with Doubl Negative about the Wire directors cuz they are the shit. The only time rappers stories are good movies are when the rapper stars in them.

This should be interesting, I agree with Doubl Negative about director choices. Spike Lee would also be a good addition to work behind the scenes. I hope this doesn't come off as some wack ass B.E.T., str8 to dvd flick with bad acting. I wonder if Terrance Howard will play Eazy?

More sutable choices for the NWA movie; 1. Quentin Tarantino - he always puts brothers in his movies, he knows LA and he's one of the best directors to film gangsta ish; 2. Guys behind The Wire - see above, although QT trumps them with his knowledge of the LA streets; 3. Training Day's David Ayer and Antoine Fuqua -Training Day and Harsh Times are classic LA hood movies, also Fuqua worked with Dre on Day, so maybe he could be an advisor.

This is hilarious: Producers of the planned biopic about N.W.A. — one of the most militant and influential (if misogynistic and fitfully anti-Semitic) rap groups of the late ’80s-early ’90s — have enlisted the white Jewish female Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) to contribute the screenplay. One can only wonder what she’ll do with Eazy-E’s tender sentiment, “I tied her to the bed, I had to let my nigg*z f*ck her first / Loaded up the .44, yo, then I straight smoked the ho!” Good luck!
