Bun B Talks About Rap-A-Lot/J. Prince's Influence On UGK

Video Exclusive: Part 2 of Senor Kaos SxSW Noisemakers footage finds Bun talking about how he and Pimp C complemented each other perfectly.

Although UGK's entire album discography was released through Jive/Zomba Records, Bun B and Pimp C have always maintained a business relationship and friendship with Texas Rap pioneer James Prince and his Rap-A-Lot Records.

Last month, Hot97's Peter Rosenberg continued his Noisemakers series with half of UGK, the legendary Bun B during Austin, Texas' yearly South By Southwest showcase. Emcee Senor Kaos provided HipHopDX with exclusive Part 2 footage of this momentous affair.

In his homestate with J. Prince reportedly in attendance, Bun B explained the mentoring relationship that the Geto Boys founder offered the Underground Kingz. "We were blessed to have Willie D as an O.G., giving us advice and inspiration. We were blessed to have Scarface giving us inspiration and advice. Back in our early days, we had DJ Reddy Red [there to give] us advice - and definitely James Prince always bein' in our corner and not even in a financial aspect, 'cause I didn't even sign to Rap-A-Lot [Records] until 2005, but J. Prince been on speed-dial since 1992," said Bun, who released has released Trill, II Trill and will release his upcoming Trill O.G. through the historic imprint. Pimp C's solo albums have also come courtesy of the label that's also released music from The Convicts, Yukmouth and Z-Ro.

As Bun has supported newer artists ranging from Kidz In The Hall, Yelawolf and Termanology, the nearly 20-year veteran reflected on his own development. "Just to have people take time out of their day to help you with your problems or help you with advice, just 'cause they want to see you win. They want to see somebody [from Port Arthur, Texas] win. [Back then], we weren't getting a lot of [wins] in the south."

In the interview, seen below, Bun also speaks about the differences of personality between him and Pimp C, and how the duo managed to maintain their unequaled chemistry, despite living in different cities later in their career.

In related news: Peter Rosenberg has announced to DX that his next Noisemakers will be with Pete Rock.

Come On you guys stop arguring about who was the best rapper in the south it doesn't matter who Is a legend or the best mc in the south but the only thing I know is that since Pimp-C died, now there's clown-ass rappers that wanna take over the south that are from the east and west and on top of that some of these rappers don't know who started this whole gangster shit and I well tell you all the first rap group who started this whole gangster shit was NWA (Niggaz With Attitude) and without them there wouldn't be no U.G.K. Outkast Goodie Mobb 8 Ball And MJG or Three 6 Mafia so apparently I have did my homework on real hip hop and I wish that they played music the way they should of had it back in the day instead of being so overrated and to mainstream with gangster rap being pop and r&b or rap music with r&b being pop music it's the same shit. but yo check this out I was just listening to U.G.K.'S second album"Supertight" and I said to myself now that's real dirty southern music unlike crunk music which killed hip hop so I don't know why y'all bashing either over who's the best mc in the south wheater it's Scarface,Master-P or Outkast and I read somebody's comment at the top saying without Pimp-C Bun-B ain't shit without him and U.G.K. and whoever said that I have to agree with that person so I ain't going lie but I'm from New York and I listen to any rap artist wheater they from the eastcoast or westcoast and I Ain't gotta be from the south to listen to any of other rapper from the south and I'm going be real with y'all I listen to southern rap music that's old school a lot more than the new school because It's better than this crunk music bullshit they play on the radio and why must we forget about the old school and listen to the new school and not remember what the old school gave us the was original, classic and a masterpiece Instead of this mainstream garbage they play 24/7 I mean what happened? why Is It that everytime they play hits but never from these legendary rappers a lot like they used to all they play Is Soulja Boy,T.I.,Lil' Wayne,Flo-Rida and Rick Ross like Nas said Hip-Hop is dead and I don't care what nobody says whoever says hip hop is not dead is brainwashed so prettty soon or later people will realized what they was missing whoever forget what real hip hop is about without rapping about cars, money, selling drugs, upgrading women, houses and all this other bullshit they sing about Is gotta get they mind right Real Talk.

Bun B always been a trill ass nigga. UGK 4 life!!!!! Bun and Pimp complemented each other basically. It was a team effort and they each brought something to the table. Bun don't need to retire at all. He can outrap these new jacks and embarrass them.

you know what..... bun b wouldn be shit w/o pimp c. I said it. I am a huge bun fan, but lately i been listening to his stuff and listenin to these interviews where bun talks about pimp making beats, concepts, and hooks, not to mention the direction of ugk and their "mission" and what they stood for and i think bun wouldn of been shit w/o pimp. pimp had huge musical influences and was thoughtful as well as loco, (which an artist needs to be) i think w/o pimp, bun woulda never reached this. that being said. I think bun is ill and glad he met pimp, and most of all i think bun knows that and acknowledges that pimp helped "make him" and he aint mad, he tries to put others on and gives credit to pimp until he retire which is rightfully what he should do, but anybody feel me? -train
