A solo artist in his own right, Kokane released two acclaimed albums on Eazy E’s Ruthless Records. Largely produced by Big Hutch (a/k/a Cold187um) of Above The Law, 1991’s Addictive Hip Hop Musick and 1994’s Funk Upon A Rhyme. The latter, now an out-of-print collector’s item, charted as one of the last west coast successes on Ruthless during Eazy’s lifetime.
In the last 15 years, Kokane has released lots of independent music, boasting appearances from Snoop Dogg, Too Short and Kurupt. Late yesterday it was announced that the multi-talented veteran will be releasing Gimme All Mine, officially his tenth solo on May 25th. The project comes from the Fontana-distributed Bud E Boy Records.
Behind the single “Twilight Zone,” produced by Tha Chill of Compton’s Most Wanted fame, the album is a reunion with his Above The Law family, as well as an exploration with new producers such as Seattle veteran Vitamin D and George Clinton’s own nephew.
