In about October of 2001 I reported that Common was working on his new album “Electric Circus.” I said that it is expected to be totally different from his last offering “Like Water For Chocolate,” and different from any hip hop album you’ve ever heard. I also said that the album was due out in February. Well, it is now July and the album still isn’t out (that is MCA for ya), but it does now have an official release date (October 15th).
In a recent interview with his website, okayplayer.com, Common confirmed that “Electric Circus” would indeed be a unique album. “Man, it’s just a whole new sound. A totally different sound than “Like Water For Chocolate.”. Its like funkier in some places, then harder in others… it’s hard to describe, but overall it’s just new and… different.”
Fellow okayplayer and Roots producer ?uestlove will once again act as the executive producer. He will also produce a few tracks as well. Other contributions will be made by Jay Dee, James Poyser and Pino Pallidino (aka the Soulquarians).
