Cap.1 has worked closely with 2 Chainz for the past decade using his features from Based on a T.R.U. Storyto TrapAvelli Tre as examples. When Tity Boi made the push last year for his T.R.U. University label, he ensured the “Tonite” rapper was a part of the plans as well. By then, Cap.1 was artistically growing himself through the under-the-radar Bird Bath EP. Outside of the music, he also started his own luxury car service and bottled water company. All that was threatened to end in 2016 after being shot outside of an Atlanta gas station and driving himself to the hospital. Having a new lease on life and renewed motivation, he’s decided to flood the streets with music drops twice a week through Caviar Dreamz Tuesdays and Caviar Dreamz Thursdays.

In this exclusive, Cap.1 recalls the moment that nearly ended his life, his friendship with 2 Chainz and his own brand of alkaline water.

Inspiration For Dropping Music Twice A Week

“We got this thing we’re doing called CDT which stands for Caviar Dreamz Tuesdays or Caviar Dreamz Thursday because we’ll be dropping new music twice a week. It’s basically a new way of rolling music out as if it was a mixtape. Then collectively, we’ll drop like that with four or five more songs with it. We’re trying something different and delivering this real street music for yall. You guys at DX have the first exclusive and we’re feeding the streets.“

“Within the last month, I was shot twice. It was kind of like a whole new chance. Alright, now it’s time to flood the streets. At that time, I didn’t have a project that was necessarily finished, but it was time to feed the streets. They wanted to know what was going on with me. Everybody was hearing different things. We had all this music we were sitting on trying to make a project, we thought to do a teaser campaign and give the people what they want. Between giving people what they want and the stuff going on in my personal life, it was a window to show people what’s going on. Just letting people know that this shit doesn’t stop. Close to the end of March around SXSW, you should see a full body of work.”

Recalling The Moments Leading Up To The Shooting

“Just a situation of being at the wrong place and the wrong time. It’s a gift and curse of being in the industry where people know who you are and you not knowing who they are. I was by myself at a gas station trying to get gas and some folks tried to rob me. I peeped game being a street nigga. My eyes were open and I sensed what was going on. The outcome wasn’t the best, but it could have been the worst. I was getting gas, a female asked me for some change and I shut her down. At the same time, I see two dudes walk up on me. You know what happened, they started shooting.”

“I had to stop downplaying who I am in regards to the public. I had to move differently.”

“I move differently. It’s really a situation of downplaying who I am. In my head, I thought I didn’t need security because I wasn’t as big as such and such. For the next person, that perception might be magnified more than what I’m thinking. I had to stop downplaying who I am in regards to the public. I had to move differently.”

Relationship With 2 Chainz

“2 Chainz, that’s my brother. I’ve been rocking with Chainz for over ten years. Just seeing the growth with his whole career from then to now. Even with the ColleGrove album, I was there remember being in the Benz with him listening to the “Dufflebag Boy” beat telling me he was going to put Wayne on it.”

Cap 1 Flint Water

Why Caviar Dreams Water Is The Best Water

“I have a car service so initially, it was about me wanting to have personal items for people we transport. That means lip balm, hand sanitizer and we wanted our own water. We cater to a lifestyle. In the midst of trying to find water, I came across a water plug. It’s alkaline water with a 7.8 ph and electrolytes. It fell in my lap. They do the reverse osmosis and stuff like that. It’s already alkaline which is the highest step. A lot of water that you buy really isn’t quenching your thirst. Some of that water has fluoride in it which can make you thirstier. You drink water and wonder why you’re still thirsty, it’s because it’s not giving you body what it needs to ‘quench our thirst.’ You think you’re getting the recommended eight or so ounces you’re supposed to be drinking per day, but some of that water has sugar and stuff that strips stuff away from your body. First of, your body needs electrolytes. So if you drink water that doesn’t have it, your body uses its own which drains you which makes you feel tired. It’s like driving a car without putting any gas in it.”

“We also sent like ten cases to Flint with the crisis they have. We’re using our voice for another reason outside of taste my tequila or taste my vodka. We want people to know that this is the best water for you. It helps fight cancer and good for hangovers. It’s about raising awareness.”
