News Bits (Ted Lucas Holds Competition, U-N-I In One)

Slip-N-Slide Records' CEO Ted Lucas has announced the launch of his "The Next Big Superstar" competition. The competition is in celebration of the Miami-based label launching Rock, Pop and R&B divisions to the thriving Hip Hop label that was established in 1993.

"The future of Slip-N-Slide Records is to expand and grow further within the Pop, R&B and Rock genres and discover new talent while still maintaining our relevance in the Hip-Hop world. We will continue to spread our wingsby forming sub-labels under Slip-N-Slide Records and offer support to artists who would like to start their own record labels," said the CEO.

The label, joined by backing from Island Def Jam and Atlantic Records, will stop in 10 major US cities, including Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, Orlando, W. Palm Beach, Gainesville, Miami, Detroit, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Charleston. Dates are on the Slip-N-Slide website.

In the next year, the label is at work on releases from Rick Ross, Plies, Trina, Qwote and a greatest hits compilation, planned for 2009.

Speaking of competition, DXnext alums U-N-I [click to read] is in the running for an an award, in conjunction with the MTV Video Music Awards, for "Best Breakout L.A. Artist." The competition is held online, and fans can vote [click here].

Thurzday
told HipHopDX this afternoon, "This is a great accomplishment to be recognized by one of the world's major music broadcasting corps. We definitely want to keep creating quality music that represents ourselves and the people, and we appreciate all the support we've received thus far."
