Following news that a grand jury chose not to indict Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Missouri police officer who shot and killed Mike Brown, a number of Hip Hop artists have voiced their opinion on the matter. While speaking with Hip Hop My Way recently, Miami, Florida rapper Rick Ross first offered his condolences to the family of Brown and then shared his thoughts on the grand jury not indicting Wilson.

The Maybach Music Group founder called the lack of indictment “a travesty” and revealed that it’s “open season on young, black males.”

“When it comes to my mind, first and foremost, I wanna send my condolences to the Brown family,” Rick Ross said. “I just feel like it’s been open season on young, black males for a long time. And how long you think this is gonna go on before something like this happen? Or worse. A teenager, unarmed, shot six times. No indictment. It’s a travesty.”

While many artists, including Kendrick Lamar and will.i.am, offered their thoughts on the verdict via social media, a handful of artists hit the pavement following news of the grand jury’s decision. Among those who protested the decision were Seattle, Washington rapper Macklemore and A Tribe Called Quest lyricist Q-Tip.

The grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson comes roughly four months after the Ferguson police officer shot and killed 18-year-old Mike Brown as the teenager and his friend, Dorian Johnson were walking down the street.
