Cam'ron Says New York City Is

Cam'ron revisits comments he made during interviews with Bill O'Reilly and Anderson Cooper.

While addressing the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, Harlem rapper Cam’ron criticized residents of New York City for their lack of response when it relates to incidents concerning police brutality in their own city.

During his interview with Montreality, he referred to those in New York City as being “soft as a city” and called out those who jumped on “the Mike Brown bandwagon.” Cam went on to use both Eric Garner and Sean Bell as examples of those who have fallen victim to police brutality in New York City.

“I think it’s messed up,” Cam’ron said. “A lot of times what I think is honestly, us New Yorkers when it comes to situations like that we kinda soft as a city. But it’s situations like that. Because, I mean, don’t get me wrong our police are probably like police was in the 90s in L.A. You know what I’m saying? I don’t know how they are today in L.A…The police was wild. Police are like that today in New York because everybody makes a big deal about Mike Brown and that is a reason to make a big deal, a very big deal. But it was a guy two weeks prior to Mike Brown who got choked up by the cops for just selling cigarettes. He got choked out on camera.

“You got this guy Sean Bell four, five years ago gets shot nine times with no weapon,” he added. “Four police. Police get off…But the Mike Brown situation everybody in St. Louis go crazy. They wild out as they should. I’m not promoting the violence and acting like it should be crazy, but something gotta be done. They taking a stand. As opposed to New York we got two people who died recently from police we don’t say nothing…I’m pissed Barack ain’t say nothing about it yet. But just in general it happens in New York a lot and we sweep it under the rug. But then we quick to jump on the Mike Brown bandwagon."

Prior to speaking on Mike Brown, Cam’ron addressed his past interviews with Bill O’Reilly and Anderson Cooper. He compared O’Reilly to former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and recalled being taken aback by the popularity of the comments he made during his interview on “The O’Reilly Factor” years ago.

“I don’t really think he’s mad at me,” he said. “I think he’s mad in general at—He’s like a Donald Sterling type. Just mad at anything that has to do with—Anything that’s not what he sees as fit. Like you’ll go on the Bill O’Reilly show and he tells me rappers don’t dress proper. Because I don’t wear a suit every day or cause I don’t wear shoes. When the government go over to get that oil from them people in Iraq and everywhere else they don’t care that they got dashikis and turbans on. Y’all gon’ get that oil. Y’all break bread with them. They got a billion dollars. You ain’t sitting there saying they dress inappropriately…It’s all about the money. Bill O’Reilly don’t say shit about that….A lot of times I don’t even think that that stuff that I do turn out so big. But I see t-shirts and people quote it. ‘You mad’ or whatever. I think it was a funny situation. So, I’m glad people adapted to it.”

The Dipset lyricist later revisited comments he made during an interview with Anderson Cooper. During his interview with Cooper, he stated that if he lived near a serial killer he would likely move, but would not turn them in.

“The whole thing is this,” Cam said. “People be like ‘Yo, if you live next to a serial killer would you call the cops?’ Look man, the police get paid to do what they do. I’m not the investigator. I don’t get paid for helping out. You know what I’m saying? What I get? It ain’t a reward for the nigga. And if it was I don’t want my money that way. So, do your job. Watch while we pay taxes. For them niggas to figure out. We don’t pay taxes so that we can figure cases out for them.”

It's not ignorance, dick head. It's fact. Drug dealers don't get sympathy, or win lawsuits. He ran and got taken out like last night's trash.

See I didn't even know that after all these yrs, what does him being a drug dealer have to do with being shot by the cops 5O times, unarmed. People always have to play the other side of the fence and look up dirt on a person who was brutality killed by the police for no reason. So it's right for one of you to get killed by police, n while your fam is trying to seek justice. But people like you dig up dirt on to show the public u were a bad person. How would ya like that shit

I've got a good idea... Why don't we take the police out of cities that don't want the cops there? Those cities that vote for them and want them can have them and those that don't, won't. I think this would be shear brilliance. Can you imagine how great living and business would be in those cities with no police presence? It would be paradise!!!

Or how's about an even more left field idea. Let's hire police officers who don't feel the need to kill unarmed citizens because of the color of their skin . Or an even more crazy/radical idea why not make the police department/officers take responsibility for the wanton murders of unarmed citizens
