Pusha T

UPDATE #6: Pusha T's "My Name Is My Name" is now available for stream.

Earlier this week, Pusha T revealed that his solo debut on G.O.O.D. Music would be titled My Name is My Name.

In a recent interview with HipHopSince1987, Pusha explained his title choice. "Basically, I was trying to pick a title that embodied who I am as an artist...and I wanted people to understand that Pusha is everything that I really, really am."

Pusha elaborated on the source of inspiration for his album title. "Actually, it's a line in 'Pain' where I actually say 'My name is my name.' And of course, that line comes from Marlo Stanfield in the series 'The Wire.' It's one of the more prominent catch phrases he said during the end of that series."

"He was just basically saying, 'I am who I am. This is what I got. I stand on my name. I live this,'" he explained. "And if you know anything about his character, he's young, brash, amongst a lot of heavyweights. But he didn't care about any of the past or history. He was like, 'Man, I'm out here to get my money at all costs. No rules, no regulations. I'm here to compete.' I just felt like that really embodied my presence in the Rap game."

PUSHA T-Best Album of the year... I have been waiting so long for this, love the album!

Just Damn, In a year ladled with many major releases, Pusha Ts, My Name Is My Name some how manages to buck both trends and every other major release, to be become one of best records released this year. In many ways it seems to be Yeezus done right, while the rest reaks of raw undiluted metaphors and lyrical skill. But where Yeezus and Magna Carta Holy Grail failed, My Name Is My Name gets it so right. Pusha T has undoubtedly cemented himself as a true quality driven artist with this LP. Every track feels carefully thought out and is mechanically sound, while all featured artists are utilized to their max potential, enhancing both the mood and style of the album. (Especially Kendrick Lamar on Nosetalgia) All of the beats are both creative, while still folding into the album nicely. Particular Standouts include those done by the Neptunes and Good Music. Pusha T is quite effective at painting a lifestyle good bad turned to artist hungry to reach the top of the game. While Yeezy, excellent production serves as a suitable backdrop. The different between this and Yeezus, however is that Pusha T, truly retains the lyrical ability to back it up. It is difficult not to reap this album enormous praise, when it so perfectly delivers on exactly what was promised. Perhaps the only real "issue" with this LP are the questionable additions of MC; "Big Sean" and "2 Chainz" neither of which can even come close to holding their own lyrically with Pusha. Both of there versus feel unintentionally awkward and funny on and all but introspective and fascinating album. Yet, neither of them are truly enough to detract from the album as a whole. Surely, a classic in the making. A 4.5 out of 5.

The content of this album is just super repetitive Id rather listen to Juicy J, Meek Mill, Ransom and 2 Chainz. Those latest efforts run circles around this. Just in subject matter alone.

Sad that we have so many tasteless rap fans on this site now. If you listen to any current hip hop, you would not be upset with this album in any way. It is much better than anything coming out these days. If you dont fuck with the clipse, you have either never heard them or are TASTELESS like I said

you must be a wayne and drake fan LOL
    • Anonymous
wayne and drake suck. so does pusha t. pusha t is really pushing the envelope featuring chris brown on a pathetic attempt at delivering a cross over hit. the dream. rick ross. every feature here is designed to sell records, not make good material. he's trying hard and it's not working. soundscan will make it clear to pusha t. instead of flopping with a good album he will flop putting out a weak album. the internet will care for 1-3 days and move on to some other garbage. drake and wayne know their fanbase. they know how to market their garbage. pusha t has a small group of fans that expect a certain thing. he will never crossover. he's been in the industry over 15 years. no neptunes. no chance.

man this album would have been really damn good if it wasnt for the weak, poppy production it kind of ruins it in a way. Pusha was on point though. After a few listens i would give it a 7/10 "i might sell a brick on my birthday, 36 years of doin dirt like its earth day"
