Nas tells Fuse about reconnecting with Lauryn 16 years after "If I Ruled The World" for their "Life Is Good/Black Rage" tour.
Nas and former Fugees member Lauryn Hill have chemistry dating back to their 1996 Top 20 collaboration, “If I Ruled The World.” Now, some 16 years later, Nas reflects on touring with his former label mate as the two rekindle their partnership from this summer’s performance at the Hot 97 Summer Jam. Both Nas and Hill took a break from their co-headlining “Live Is Good/Black Rage” tour to perform at the 2012 Voodoo Music Experience Festival down in the Big Easy. In an interview with Fuse, Nas explained just how the tour with Lauryn came together.
“I’d asked Lauryn to come out at the Summer Jam as a surprise guest in New York, we did that, she came out for Rock The Bells, and I just felt like to be on a tour with someone as talented as Ms. Lauryn Hill, is just…what’s better than that?” Nas told Fuse. “It just felt like the right time and the right two people to do it, those different styles of rap but me and her kind of fit in the same vein at the same time.”
Aside from his tour with Lauryn Hill, the native New Yorker’s biggest gift to music fans will be his show at Radio City Music Hall on New Year’s Eve. He said playing the prestigious venue, which he grew up near, is “special” and “like a dream.” The full interview, which also includes Nas’ thoughts on his connection with Amy Winehouse and their “Cherry Wine,” which Winehouse appears on posthumously, can be viewed below.
