Movie Reviews

Hip hop loves movies, not only do you have groups like Wu-Tang having their styles influenced by kung fu flicks, but you've got rappers like Will Smith, Ice Cube, and LL Cool J developing full fledge movie careers. But even if Common or T.I. isn't making an appearance in the movie, HipHopDX will still be there to tell you whether or not to spend your hard earned money on it or just cop the 30 new Lil' Wayne mixtapes that just dropped.

White men Can't Jump

A great example of basketball on film. Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes play basketball hustlers making rounds through the playground basketball courts of Los Angeles. Using his "whiteness", Harrelson's character cons black basketball players into thinking he's an easy win on the court.

The movie moves beyond the theme of race and touches on issues of brotherhood, loyalty, and love among others. White Men Can't Jump is less about the fine points of the game than it is the rules by which players survive it. The film is about trusting those close to us to ensure success regardless of what the goal is.

As their respective basketball careers evolve, their relationship becomes complicated. Possibly because the director was female, the film gives the viewer insight into the disparity between men's and women's professional basketball leagues. Quincy is

Pearl Harbor

May 28th, 2001 - | DVD Release | Comments: 0
This ultra big budget war movie from the director of Bad Boys and Armageddon will open up the summer movie season when it hits theatres everywhere May 25th. The film concerns the lives of pilot Rafe (Affleck) and his childhood friend Danny (Hartnett) during the days right up until the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7th, 1941. Don't expect too much of a history lesson though; being a Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay collabo means big explosions, tons of special effects and of course the same chest thumping American pride thats all over their previous film, Armageddon. Regardless of how mindless this movie is
