It’s that time of the year again for pundits, purists and passionate historians.
No, that wasn’t a reference to the upcoming Election Day. It’s the return of Durag History Week.
For those who haven’t been in the know for the past couple of years, the hashtag is self-explanatory. Black Twitter users band together for the written, oral and meme history of the ancient artifact that preserves the male mane.
A couple of weeks ago, acclaimed journalist and Black Twitter congressional figurehead, Vann R. Newkirk II a.k.a. FiveFifths began to rally the troops and on this day in time, it appears everyone is on the same page and he propelled it to become a trending topic this morning (November 7).
Who would thunk that a simple piece of fabric could have such an indelible impression on Hip Hop culture? And outsiders simply thought they were created just to look “cool.”
