Jerry Rice may be late to the party but Black Twitter is always on time.

The latest trending topic in #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor has social media users getting punny in the wake of Ben & Jerry’s support in the Black Lives Matters conversation.

Whereas expressing political opinion in a capitalistic society is generally frowned up, the iconic ice cream company took a stand in the national conversation regarding police brutality and Black lives mattering.

Yesterday, October 6, the trusted brand took to its Facebook to promote an article on its website that broke down their decision to be included in the conversation.

“Black lives matter. They matter because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers,” the manifesto began.

“They matter because the injustices they face steal from all of us — white people and people of color alike. They steal our very humanity.

Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time. We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”

Afterwards, the #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor hashtag began to rise amongst the ranks on Twitter, where the hilarious suggestions were made for Ben & Jerry to keep fighting the good fight with good ingredients.
