October 7, 2015 was a great day gone bad. I was kicking off the first day of the A3C Festival with Joyner Lucas, Vice Souletric, and a few other artists. We showed up to the venue and put on an incredible show! The energy in the building set the tone for what I thought was going to be a great night. I gave my pounds and hugs to Joyner Lucas and his manager, then bounced. Vice Souletric, Hi Jinks and myself stopped at Hooters to get something to eat and proceeded to link up with our good friend Reks after we finished.

Reks had invited us to come out to a performance for Chris Rivers and the rest of the homies. Reks’ eyes lit up and said, “It’s good to see you kid! We’re trying to go somewhere to kick it. You trying to go?” Vice and Jinks insisted we go back to the spot and get some rest since we had a busy day ahead of us the next day.

After kicking it with Reks for a minute, we rolled out but, ended up getting pulled over by police officers. It was during the traffic stop that I had discovered I had a warrant for my arrest.

See, I used to be a Georgia resident before moving back up North to Ohio. When I moved, I put in a proper change of address to have my Georgia mail forwarded to my new address. However, what I didn’t know is that government issued mail such as W2’s and court stuff were restricted. In order to receive these types of things, you have to directly give your employer or courts your new address. This misunderstanding caused me to miss a court date that I didn’t even know that I had and thus, landed me in jail.

October 9, 2015 was a bittersweet moment that I will never forget. It was still the week of the A3C Festival and I had just gotten transported from another jail to Fulton County Jail. I had been working on getting bonded out, but was informed that I wouldn’t be released until Sunday which was the last day of A3C. I felt extremely disappointed because I had spent weeks reaching out to tastemakers and bloggers to secure reviews for my new project. Being a performer was a great opportunity to network and deliver the music first hand, and it felt like all my hard work was going up in flames.

As I hung up the phone, I saw a familiar face, a Face that I’ve admired my entire life. I yelled out “Brad! What’s up man!!” It was Scarface. Over the past few years, I’ve had many encounters with Scarface. He’s cosigned my music and we’ve even discussed a possible collaboration. But, this time was a little different. He looked at me and said, “Man, what the hell are you doing in here?” He proceeded to ask me how I was doing and I explained my situation to him. He offered some kind words and expressed genuine concern and empathy. The man who had always inspired me with his music, was now inspiring me during a time that I needed it most. And just like that, my spirit was lifted! He told me I was great, I’m not a failure and he believed in me. Before he finished booking in and I was being taken to my new cell block, I shook his hand and he gave me a hug. I took a minute and said “Bro, I’m proud of you and I love you. No matter what you go through, just remember that you’re always going to be a superhero to me, and there is no obstacle bigger than you my brother. You just gave me all the hope in the world with your words.” Before being taken to my cell, one of the female correctional officers was kind enough to let us borrow a pen to exchange contact information.

I wanted to come forward and tell this story because it wasn’t until the next day that I had found out why Scarface had been brought to jail. I’m here to publicly say Brad, you are a King! I know how hard you worked on Deeply Rooted, how hard you’ve worked to live a healthier lifestyle, and how hard you’ve worked to take care of some of these legal issues. Spectators, fans and media outlets will always be first to judge and offer an opinion without knowing all of the facts, but I wanted to be the first to show the side that will never get applauded. Even at his lowest moment, Brad took the time to lift someone else and made sure their time in Fulton County Jail was filled with lessons, blessings and wisdom. I just want to say, thank you Brad….
