Oh, Jay Electronica. That once and maybe current most fervent hope for all that is good and true in Hip Hop has done his fair share of flip-flopping over the years. Remember when he was all like, “Call me Jay Electronica, fuck that / Call me Jay Elehannukah / Jay ElecYarmulke / Jay ElecRamadaan / Muhammad A’salaamaleikumRasoulAllah Subhanahu wa ta’ala” and then started dating Kate Rothschild of the shrouded in mystery clan Rothschild? Or how his fabled album is now the number one most mythical project in the universe now that Detox has been snatched from the human imagination? But, whatever, he’s large; he contains multitudes. It’s just that his fuming disdain with the state of the game comes from a solid place, but fails the hypocrite test because “Exhibit C” dropped in the last year of the 2000s. If you’re so concerned with rappers making music talking about “banging on their own people,” then you should make a counterweight to that kind of noise with all that prodigious talent, and all that imagination, shouldn’t you?

You can check the full news story here.

Still, he called out that entire side of the rap game by calling them, “fucking cowards” in a series of Tweets yesterday. Doesn’t anyone care about Sunday’s anymore? He then deleted them. What happened to not throwing stones and hiding your hands?

But there’s more because the Internet never forgets! Three more to be exact. So let’s play a little game called “what Jay Electronica says” versus “what Jay Electronica does.”

Remember when Karen Civil had the gall to ask if Jay Electronica should drop his album last year since 2014 was the five-year anniversary of “Exhibit C” and all? Then he responded with a series of tweets and called everyone out?

No doubt, Jay Elec. That’s cool.

What Jay Electronica Did On His “Control” Verse

His verse on “Control” was good, but, let’s be honest, it wasn’t better than Kendrick’s or for that matter Big Sean’s. He rehashed a ton of familiar tropes, but, again, no album or single or anything, again, so whatever. He spoke on what his mother taught him (which I love), and his home (which is cool) and his faith (which is fine), and the state of the game (which.. whatever) and that’s fine and all, but Kendrick called out almost every major emcee in the game. He ushered in an age of renewed competition. And he happened to do it with one verse. So, we’re just going to have to give him the crown.

So on the matter of Jay Electronica having the best verse on “Control,” I’m just going to say… No.

What Jay Electronica Says About President Barack Obama

And let’s not forget this one.

“@BarackObama I know as the president of the Usa you’re just a figurehead and can’t do much but damn man. where’s your voice and nuts?”

What Jay Electronica Has Done About The State Of Things

Now, we don’t exactly know what Jay Electronica has been up to. He could be setting plans in motion to bring the world back from the brink of madness. He could be getting ready to announce that album. He could be, namelessly, valiantly, on the front lines of the war against rationality, beauty and truth. And we’re not saying he can’t knock the POTUS. Of course he can and he should. But show us the way, then, sir. We’re all waiting for you.
