This week, R&B trumped the Hip Hop sect. Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean crowned HipHopDX's Most Popular Hip Hop Singles list after his previously unreleased track "Eyes Like Sky" hit the web earlier this week. Pitbull was a close second with his Lil Wayne diss "Welcome 2 Dade County," a response to Weezy's comments about Miami Heat over Baauer's "Harlem Shake" beat. Meanwhile, Big K.R.I.T., Juicy J and Yelawolf all landed top five tracks, while previously released cuts including 50 Cent's "We Up" and J. Cole's "Power Trip" made the list. Metta World grabbed Tech N9ne for the impactful "Point of No Return," while Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz just charted with "Dirty Cup" and Joey Bada$$ scored with "Wendy N Becky" featuring Chance The Rapper.
Frank Ocean Soars With Previously Unreleased Track "Eyes Like Sky"
Frank Ocean has a long catalog of songs that never got officially released, namely on his Lonny Breaux collection that dropped a few years back. After releasing his breakout label debut Channel Orange last summer, the Odd Future crooner sprung a leak this week with "Eyes Like Sky," believed to be recorded for the LP. While the song gained traction this week, Ocean, who recently performed at the 2013 Grammy Awards, is currently at work on the follow up to the project, recently stating that he's "10, 11 songs into this next thing" and that he's shipping off to Bora Bora to lay down tracks for it.
Pitbull Blasts Lil Wayne With "Welcome 2 Dade County"
Lil Wayne ruffled some feathers with a rant about how he didn't like the Miami Heat and said that he "fucked Chris Bosh's wife," eliciting responses from Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell and Trick Daddy. Pitbull also took issue with the diatribe and turned to wax to lay down a diss track over Baauer's "Harlem Shake," appropriately titled "Welcome 2 Dade County." Weezy quickly responded to the song, stating that he thought Pitbull was "kool" but apparently was under the wrong impression. The YMCMB chief is yet to comment further on the matter.
